So much looking forward to this Shoppe, but I know from testing at least half of the mods on the list how time consuming the process is, and especially more so making a presentation of them as you go along.   There are a lot of dependencies with these mods, often cascading to several others.   I must have downloaded half the STEX and LEX and my SC4 data drive is a mess of folders that would take a year to organize.   I'll go through these links today and verify them by tonight.

From our chat the other day, I was under the impression that'll be the Tree Controllers that will have a zillion (and three) dependencies with possibly some undeclared ones too. For the above Terrain mods I believe I have all the dependencies and have included the linkys to them with the exception of the PyreneanTerrainMod v 1.0 that's on another site in another language. I did use Google Translate, but still didn't see any linkys on the page. Hopefully they will be mentioned by name and even linky in the download.

Here are the dependencies for the Pyrenean Terrain Mod (a few years of French in high school worked wonders):

    Pyrenean Texture Pack One
    Pyrenean Texture Pack Two
    Pyrenean texture Pack Three

It's amazing how you can accomplish such an undertaking. Your dedication astounds me!!

Also it may be helpful to specify which terrain mods are HD for the convenience of those who must run the game in software rendering mode.

I think your "Shoppe's" are a great idea , very helpful . Especially for new members that are just getting into SC4 . All of the mods are what have been keeping this game going for over 13 years and still making sales . It's the game that never ends . Specifying HD is a good idea , as Rathefalcon suggested . Keep it up and someday you will be "Legendary"

Btw, the linky in my sig will take you to a list of linkys of my other picture Shoppes (I've done Rock, Water & Beaches so far). Good idea! Done. I'll need to go back over my other Shoppes and do that in them as well. Plus add the index lists for each that @Cyclone Boom suggested.

Yes, in my comment I was thinking more so of the associated tree controllers we were discussing, especially with the major terrain mods.  Right, the terrain mods themselves usually include the textures as part of the package.  Most of this stuff is on the LEX so as I go through verifying them I'll look at the dependency lists.

For the major terrain mods that exist both on the STEX and LEX, we have links to both separated by a backslash.  They have a bit different titles, but same file names, and are exactly the same files.   Somebody might think they are both required and may not be familiar with the structure of both sites.   I suggest it be indicated that the first link is to the LEX, the 2nd to the STEX and that they are the same files.   I've just got started on the froggy leaping... ribbit :)

EDIT:   All the mods listed above are verified available as linked.

The NHP Palm Springs California map does have a terrain mod by @Heblem.    I installed it and it is specific to the semi desert terrain of Southeast California.

Status update: I've made pictures of the first 6 terrains and when the terrain mod contains Cliff (Rock), Water, and/or Beach mods I've also run those separately making pictures for my other 3 shoppes in their corresponding tiles. The idea being someone might want to pull just one of those out and do a mix and match setup.

Anyhow, on to to my questions. It seems that the Columbus Textures for jeronijs mod I listed as a dependency for Columbus Terrain - Snowcapped mod Low/er (v1.0) isn't really a dependency but is the original, full Columbus Terrain Mod itself. I say original because it is self contained, has CP_TerrainTextures_No1.dat and does not require the CPT_Essentials folder (CPT_No3_TerrainTextures_Essential.dat & CPT_No4_TerrainTextures_Essential.dat ).

Then I found Columbus Terrain Mod von Cycledogg which does required the CPT_Essentials (No3 & No4). Is then then like version 2? Or just an update in which No1 Textures have been merged into files 3 & 4? I haven't compared screenshots side by side yet, but I didn't notice any difference right off.

And the Snowcapped one I listed as the main mod is really just the replacement file for one of the TerrainParameters files. Right?

You've added at least 3 or 4 items, or maybe I skipped  a couple initially, but either way I'm going through the list again to make sure I get all the mods. Thank you for being thorough, so everybody interested can get the whole collection and try them out for themselves.

EDIT:  Went through the list again, got them all, so consider this a double-check verification.

Don't be so modest. Everything people do for this community comes from some personal motivation. But taking the time to pass your efforts on for everyone to take advantage of, that's pretty much the definition of community.

Even if that's only a little extra work, which I suspect is far from true. You have accomplished something that in all these years, no one else ether thought to do or bothered with. These resources I'm sure will be a huge benefit to the community. Especially new members, who not only may not easily find all the choices. But can now compare them all together at-a-glance.

Frankly, if I had the power, these threads would serve as portals to dedicated sections where the mods were located. It's after all a far more logical and user-friendly way of offering these game-changing mods IMHO.

And for an update: I've shot 31 terrains so far. One pack had 16 in it. The circuit board one is pretty cool. Not sure what one would do with it, but it looks nice in a weird sort of way.

Wow.  You know, Cori, your dedication and thoroughness to all that you do here really just blows me away!  Just the sheer amount of time and work you clearly must put into compiling all these lists, shoppes, and comparisons to make finding what people like me are looking for is truly astonishing.  I wish there were some way I could thank you for all you have helped me with, even if indirectly, in the short time I've been a member here in this terrific community.  I'm still learning about modding and I feel like a lurker, reading everything, downloading lots of stuff but not really contributing anything at all other than some financial support when I can, which is the absolute least I can do for all I've gotten in return.  I have a ways to go before I can really start sharing but, you, along with MGB and many other awesome members here have truly helped get me on the right track to learning how to make this game I love so much better!  I guess I just wanted to say thanks a lot for helping me find what I'm looking for and pointing me in the right direction, even when you may not have the answer yourself.  I really do appreciate it! :thumb:

I was browsing the French-language ToutSimCities website this evening and immediately thought of your various terrain showcase threads when I saw a couple of mods.

    Here is Orange's PyreneanTerrainMod v 1.0

It requires three texture pack dependencies found on Orange's thread TSC - Pyrenean Terrain Mod - Topic officiel

EDIT:   Nevermind, I see you already saw it.  Ah well...what is important is that these threads are such great and useful projects, and we couldn't help thinking of them the moment we spotted a terrain.

My only suggestion would to use Lowkee's Starter pack when you're showing his terrain, as the game's default water and rock/cliff textures don't show well due to LK using a different tiling factor for those textures. Just so people don't look at it and think that that is what it does to their cliffs.

The Gobias mods, and some of the CP ones include the rock and water textures packaged inside them, which is why they changed when presumably you were using an empty plugins folder.

Yes, ofc, peeps will want more than just the one mod for those that don't already have Rock, Water, and/or Beach in them. The concept of this thread, however, is here's what you get with the single download (not counting deps). A few of the others have suggested mods that blend in well with them. I'll make an exception for LK and add a 2nd pic with all of LK Starter installed.

Edit: @APSMS, Done. I've edited in your quote and the better pic.

One other small problem, although I fully understand for the sake of comparison, not to mention practical reasons, it isn't possible to optimise every screenshot/terrain mod here.

For the HD mods by Gobias/Lowkee, usually you will get snow-capped mountains. Not to mention, depending on the map used, there is a much larger variation of terrain textures you will see. Also, when playing with higher screen resolutions (like 1080p), the level of detail in the HD mods simply eclipses standard definition terrains. But in order to see any terrain mod at it's best, it must be both optimised for a specific map or region. In addition to playing SC4 with optimal graphics settings.

In any case, I feel a disclaimer of some sort would be beneficial here. Because as someone that works exclusively with the HD terrains mentioned. Browsing here, I really didn't get the feeling that these screen-shots do justice to just how much better HD terrain mods are capable of looking. Without prejudice, that doesn't apply to the Pyrenean/Runamuck mods, which are much warmer in tone and not as sharply detailed as those by Gobias/Lowkee.

Whilst terrain mods may sometimes come with more than one setting to choose from. The only way to really optimise your terrain for a given region/map, is to manually modify the terrain .ini files. @blunder has an excellent tutorial on how to do this:

Which again, regardless of the terrain used, can make a massive difference in terms of the final result.

This inventory of terrain mods certainly represents what is generally available and known to function normally.

Given the inordinate amount of time and effort Cori put in to these shoppes and especially this one, if she does decide to take on the next one planned, the tree controller shoppe, I suggest starting earlier providing a draft here on site.  There are many advanced SC4 players interested in these databases of resources providing information that will ensure the effort and finished product is as thorough as possible for the use of beginners and advanced players alike.   I know from exploring a few tree controllers, she's in for a wild ride through the cascading dependency hierarchy.

With all the above said, thank-you Cori, and as well for including me in this project. Overall, it is excellent for the purpose of exploring the resources available.

This is just great! I've been meaning to install a terrain mod (along with a tree controller) for a long time, but I don't really have the time to search between all the mods out there, much less to try and see if there's one that suits my needs. However, with this reference I've narrowed the list down to just two mods; and the fact that the dependencies are listed along it's just the icing on the cake.

Thank you very much @CorinaMarie you are seriously one of the most helpful and enterprising members in this community. Hats off to you! :thumb:

Thank you for doing this. This is very useful for me. :) So far I have used Vanilla textures, but I have been thinking about a terran mod. So far I have not decided which one, but this is very useful preview so that I do not have to try each one by one and now I know what is available out there. :thumb:
