Working on another requested BAT before taking a break...

Sometime I wish there is a drone that can travel at the speed of light so I can take HD picture of building's roof top anywhere on the globe...

Have a little trouble modelling the top at the moment.

Edit : modelling pretty much done, picture update.

Hell, I fall in love with this building

But tbh angle view later in the game really isn't the best position to view this building =(

Started building lots of different sectors across different maps. Each one is a mini map, dependent on the neighbouring cities. More of an experiment than anything. This is my current downtown area.

Wow everyone busy making the game awesomer, yay! Nice stuff guys!

As for me, I've been busy learning how to use the Lot Editor : ) Thanks to the technical help provided to me by rsc204 and xonedl's fulfilment of my BAT request in record time, I've made quite some progress:

Making a modular remote landing strip... teehee. First two lots doneish..

My problem now is regarding those pesky overlay textures, which I can't seem to get to show in the right order :( There is supposed to be cobblestone under the "bar area" and tyre tracks on the dirt....

Any tips, suggestions, observations welcome :)

The lot looks pretty good! Just wondering, are you overlapping several overlay textures or just using base (I'm going to assume the cobblestone is the base, correct me if I'm wrong) + overlay? If it's the former than I don't think conflicts can be really helped unless your overlays have a shared transparent side. If its the latter, try checking the tiles for any double base textures. IIRC in LE, if there is an existing base and you drag a new one over it won't outright replace the old texture but rather just overlap. I've had this issue in my old lots where one or the other may randomly decide to show up depending on the zoom level. Hope that helps!

Playing around with some more Ill Tonkso goodies. Man picking good overlays and base textures are difficult. Not sure what exactly to do about that makeshift pool in the middle and still debating whether to play around with CP seasonals. If I do my OCD might kick in and I'll have to re lot all the older sets. :P

Also have this Maxis advanced research center as growable thing-a-majigg down here. Not sure what to do with this either.

Well I hope you keep "playing around". I think you have a real eye for placement and design, and I dig what you're doing.

I've been playing around with new base textures myself and am starting to assemble quite a few. If it's of any interest to you I'd gladly share with you what I have, and any others I come up with. I've been making both low def and high def versions.

@TPB: What kingofsimcity said. SimCity cannot determine a fixed order for overlay textures. It will display one or the other, depending on zoom, rotation, and planetary constellation. You'll only achieve satisfactory results if you take care that the overlay textures...

  • don't overlap at all
  • only overlap in a way that the overlapping sections have an identical pattern
  • only overlap in an area that will be hidden under a building or prop

@kingofsimcity: Great progress as usual! I'd stick to that pond; it makes for a good fire protection pond and would therefore be a realistic choice. Choosing base and overlay textures is indeed difficult, but so far I think your choices are well made. That growable version of the research center looks like a good high-tech industry lot to me. In fact, it reminds me of an old SFBT BAT, this one. It even looks like a water molecule, too.

Everything in this thread is awesome.

feyss:  That's a really beautiful photo. I'm curious, do you get any graphics glitches at wider zooms with the RVT tunnel mod?

@kingofsimcity & @T Wrecks - Thank you all for the answers. Much has been learned and I'll stop stacking overlays (thought this would work, oops)

Some progress on my airstrip:

@panerai1 - I second that! Amazing stuff guys!

@xonedl - Dirt runways exist :)

This aircraft is specifically designed to be able to land on primitive landing strips of good length.

That's what I plan for the next update. Since I took the picture, I add some stuffs in the river and a farm in the south of the village. :)

That's a beautiful setting. Of course I shouldn't tell you, since I'm competing with it, but if I could, I'd vote for it. Which I shouldn't say, cos I'll lose votes.

Another quick update on Trowbridge Offices. The first lot is pretty much done and ready for action. It's an 8x9 CO$$ medium-density with approx. 2500 jobs.

8UcGImN.jpg

A new layout. Larger, yet smaller: 2 buildings sitting on 8x10 :boggle: . I think this one has the potential to fill a spot in one of those multi-lot MEGA complexes like the Ill Tonkso. Might also go a bit conservative on the trees with this one. I've noticed that many suburban office parks in the states happen to sport large plots of well-tended lawns.

Throwing them both together. I kinda like how this shot turned out. :)

It best to delete all original texture and start a new when creating a lot. Gotta be sucks when all zoom level looks fine, then suddenly one unwanted poped out at level 4... (just happened on me).

Are the dirt surface intentioned? I don't think aircraft that heavy won't sink...

On the other hand... Decide to HD render for this structure. Got some error to fix before proceeding to night version.

The windows look so damn flat and I hate it  :uhm:

[pic]

That's a beautiful model you have there, would love to use it as in ATCT for a project of mine.

Only little things bugging me is the size of the floors compared to the size of the doors. You might want to either make the floor a bit taller or the door a bit smaller, your call.

As for the windows it's very simple: don't texture them. Model them along with the walls and some interior design. Not only will that gives a better result overall, you'll also have more details resulting in a higher quality building.

Hope you don't mind my two cents.

I'll take a quiet life... A handshake of carbon monoxide.

About the door, it actually not the original size. The sims are all giant monsters so I had to increase them a bit...  :D

For the floor vs door, it still have enough space to open either outside or inside, the paths are modeled to be very narrow ~5 feet, although I'm not sure about the real world version as I can't find a picture showing it. The paths branching out however, are very narrow under 4 feet.

Yea I went to model all the windows, though I didn't take care much about the interior - the real world tower also completely empty after I check some video of it.

Thanks. I use those tunnels since a while and I never had any problem. Maybe you could send me a picture by PM if you want. :)

All your BATs are excellent! Maybe you could consider openning a BAT thread and letting us know what's in progress?

Still working on the international airport I posted a while ago. But what was posted last time was not even half of it-

GTdR2WJ.jpg

I've been working on the main runways and taxiways as well as a military ramp!

vI7jBgD.jpg

In this region, it's supposed to be the only major airport with a few smaller airfields for Cessnas and maybe a couple of Learjets. Therefore, a military ramp is necessary for the region's security. The USAF markings on the C-130 is intentional, as this region is a commonwealth of the United States. The US still uses the Tomcat, as some of the biggest services offered at this airport are maintenance, overhauling, and upgrading.

Eb1QQdb.jpg

Landing pad so the choppers above can have a place to safely take off and land without interfering with the busy nature of the airport.

FtBJX2P.jpg

I've been working on this airport for several months and sometimes I just want to cry because it's such a huge project.. I still don't know how to execute MMP's once it is finished.. But I feel like at least the terminal is coming together; now if only I can figure out how to plan the roadways leading in and out of the terminal..

Wow,you have all been busy over the last few days.

KingofSimcity:Wow,your newest Businessparks look great.I guess i would have to start to erase a whole bunch of blocks to make way for something large like the Tonkso Corporate Park (my streetgrid was made with 4 tiles between the horizontally placed streets...) but the idea of a compact business center sounds great.

airman:Would you please build me an airport? :thumb:

No seriously, your airport looks great. It always amazes me to see people plan such large areas tile by tile. :boggle:

It is already spectacular looking, but when it is finished lets all hope the universe won`t collapse because of all this awesomeness.
