Working on something s little more 'natural' looking. I'm actually really surprised by how low commute time is compared to my grid cities. The distance between sims and workplaces seems much longer here.

Also, I was playing around with roads a little and ended up with this. At this point in time there isn't any traffic flowing through here, but at a glance - will it work? I think i may have mixed up the direction of the one way roads with the avenues, but in theory will this design work?

I decided to redo the downtown area of my city and the hilly terrain has always bugged me, however I found a solution...

What do you think? Does it look good?

The central area of my biggest and most important city, Sphinx.

I'm working on it for a few years now and I've completely destroyed it a couple of times as well.

It's still unfinished and I think my next move will be to thin out that skyscraper forest, but I don't know what to put there yet because I don't want endless repetition of 2x2 W2W buildings.

There are still a lot of open spaces and the historic downtown needs more life, like markets and sidewalk cafes.

i say keep the downtown and let the city stay as is just ass more homes

No, it won't. Even if you change the direction of the one-way roads, it won't be possible to create a theoretically possible setting. The point is the bridge. If you have RHD installed, traffic can only enter the bridge (both from the top and the right), but it cannot leave (for LHD: it can only leave, but not enter).

Just started playing SC4 again after more than a few years. I used to only work on flat land but I've decided it looks to unrealistic/boring. This is residential area of my new metropolis.

Still not exactly sloped terrain but I find the terraced approach to be a happy medium.

I seem to remember rules about image size on ST but don't see anything stickied?

There is no longer any image sizes limit, as everything is resized automatically at 800px.

Speaking of work:

And I fell asleep on this one. It has been fixed since:

Got around to testing the Karma and so far she works great.
St5NhYJ.png

And this is the next one to get a makeover. You'll probably remember her as the SS Union. She was one of the other paddlewheel steamers that didn't turn out so well. So I converted her back into a prop-driven type of ship and I experimented with an open lower deck. She will also be bigger than the Karma-

Looks like a pretty good start to your first custom airport. I don't think the runways are to close necessarily. Often runways will cross each other.

Does the airport pack have diagonal runways now? The things you miss when you take 3 year breaks...

Moved onto a new area in the same region as above, prepared the mountains in the area that the city will expand to and started the coastal civil work for the port.

Awesome progress. I really hope you consider releasing these as model files too. They would work great add eye candy fillers. :)

I'll consider releasing the model and texture files in case someone wants to fiddle around with making it into a BAT. In fact, I could probably do that with my USS Macon as well.

The Queen Mary is still in texturing but i'm getting to the decks finally. I'm not sure what's going to happen when I add the finer details like railings. I will just have to experiment with what works and what won't until it can be considered complete.

Here's a screenshot of the Queen-

Alright, I started off a brand new project from scratch yesterday, for now I've only made this up in a single city (or neighborhood, if you prefer how The Sims 2 calls them), even though I provided the best road network I could, and a huge underground metro, there's still a lot of unemployment in my R$$ - R$$$ zones, I am yet to understand why, anyway here are some pictures:

uh4z.png

This is an overall view of the whole city, you can see I made a huge industrial area on the left to make the minimum pollution possible in the actual town, I got a massive demand of hi-tech but I don't know how to upgrade it, it has a perfect water coverage and it's all on high-density. The commercial area is the middle one, next to it is a small landfill, just the minimum to contain the whole garbage of the city; again, the commercial area has got a perfect water coverage and it is all on "high-density". Finally, on the right are the residential and agriculture zones, I ended up mixing them because of the unemployment, but it didn't help at all, so I was thinking to remove them and turn them into residential aswell...

Looks good so far, art! Will you be developing the land around the airport? And will you be adding to the airport itself?

I don't think I'll expand the airport seeing it's just a small island.

The lands around the airport will be filled with houses and farms. :)

Amazing road, definitely looks like something that you might find in the wilderness where I live.

In case you missed it over at SC4D, I think this is worth posting.

Nice train yard, are those are all personal lots? I've been building out my port and have had to do most of the industrial stuff myself.

Here is my region and transport map as of now.

The blank space you see above, between the farms, coast, and town to the left will eventually become the Powhatan International Airport. As of now, I have the terminal, concourses, parking garage, and transit center for the airport down; and have placeholders for the 2 intersecting runways/taxiways laid out. I will get it uploaded to my CJ (Powhatan Island) hopefully sometime next week.

@Indiana Joe:  Those textures will be incredibly useful!

Meanwhile... over at SimPeg...

*snip*

The end is near!   :)

The picture is not showing up for me--what happened?

Yeah, dropbox was acting strange - I think I've fixed it now :)

Speaking of rallying, your road layout remind me of one of those stage in Rally Catalunya de Costa Brava or ADAC Rally Deutschland...

Always happy to see your road creation Niels. Nice job!

Track drivers see the same corner 1000 of times, rally drivers see a thousand corners one time

Wow really nice layout for the runways. I was thinking of starting to build a airport in one of my simcity regions and this looks like something I can draw inspiration from  :)

iowndiscti: Nice airport layout! Are the fingers of land going to eventually become a port of some sort?

NielsC007: That would look very good with some low-density residential. I've seen neighborhoods with similar layouts in Scandinavia (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Oslo/@59.8826126,10.8121984,915m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x46416e61f267f039:0x7e92605fd3231e9a).

Me, I am working on filling in some gaps in between my residential neighborhoods in one of my larger cities. I have so far created an outlet mall and a fishing village:
