Thought I'd show my progress in the city that doesn't have a name. What do you think?

Looks really great! Love the spacing between all the buildings.

I've been laying RHW 6s to expand the Verbatim district a bit.

Here's what I've been planning for the future.

My progress on one city:

Wow Tonraq - looks really good.  Can we get so close up shots.  Great job!

Excellent.  I really love the MMPs on the coast, the bridge and the color of the water.  Really stands out.

Sound walls for junctions don't exist in automatic form for practical reasons. If you want them there, you will have to take the time (and the space) to build them on the ground yourself. There is unfortunately no way around this.

Edit: Something I'm working on underwater to allow myself some decent beaches. Most of the roads that you can see are actually under the waterline. I've been meaning to do this for a while now, but have been putting it off due to the sheer scale; this is just one tile, and I have probably close to a dozen that need this treatment.

Actually, I can (I have some photo-edited images as part of my last update):

For obvious reasons, these (except the last one) never made it to the main City Journal Update.

Wow. I really love your suburbs.  Really beautiful

This is just another side project. It seems complete, but could use some more testing.

The airship is amazing.  Will the airplanes also be part of the automata.

Yes. The way I have it set up is the planes are part of the same model as the airship and will follow it wherever it goes. However, I noticed a bug where the airship's path is unpredictable and in some cases, half the planes will go backwards. I originally intended for the planes to hang from the bottom since the USS Macon had the ability to carry their parasite aircraft but you wouldn't be able to see them in the game since the airship is so big it will hide the planes in the perspective you are in. For those who would see this bug as a major issue, I will include a second model without the fighter escort.

Also, here is a peek at my next project. It's a ship, but i'll let you guys guess which one it might be.

I just got done with it. It took forever, but I did it! What should I add to this area? More industry or something else.

@Tonraq - WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW I LOVE THE COLORS. Those pic entries look so good, I've just never seen so many colors in one city tile :D

@Moerp - Lovin' the suburbs :)

@APSMS - A massive rural tile with beachs? I like where it's going :D

@airman15 - Those are some interesting BAT projects. I'm not really a ship savvy person, so I'm not all familiar with them, but I can tell that project's gonna be good :)

@SUPERniceToday - I like the concept of that sub-level railway. Adding the flora makes it seem even better, with some greenery etched into the city :)

I recently downloaded a 3d model of a sci-fi station that I could add textures and then render for a certain kind of environment. Then I added some other little things to make it more interesting...still a WIP since this scene is only a part of the entire area:

Actually it's going to be this, but the map I have just dropped all of the water/sea floor to 192m (from a land level of 251m), so nicely sloped beaches are impossible to make using god-mode tools alone. I have to go in and raise the sea floor to a reasonable height and then smooth it out to achieve a halfway decent effect.

The water level has been dropped to 175m for the moment, which is why all of this flattening with roads (the dots and lines in the picture) is possible.

Sea floor on left, beach and [future] seaside community on right:

The second picture is quite nice, especially with the creek! May I ask you about the link to the ploppable stream water and the rocks? They both look quite realistic, much better than what I'm having now.

Tonraq, you build in a style somewhat similar to mine.

Oppa Random Style? :P

Well, for me, the only concern that irks me is how to place some stuff in the hills: what are appropriate ones to build and what are not appropriate. Other than that, I just use heavy experimentation of road layouts and transportation mechanics of SimCity 4.

Here's a the transportation map of some of the areas that I have been working on:

7Z6zB.jpg

Moar pics (I'm literally giving away some of my update ;)):

More work on the next setting of my update, which is a historical update. In the process, I would transform this area into some sort of a mix of a park, residential and religious neighborhood (might have to remove the rice fields as I found them to be unsuitable at the harbour). I am lazy with them plopping, am I?:

7YYcW.jpg

This one is just West of the setting, and this is an all-grow neighborhood. Again, I got lazy with the plopping of the urban canals, oh well .

7YX9i.jpg

Zoom into a commercial/residential mixed-use area. Might have to change the densities and add some more commercial in here.

7YWIQ.jpg

And finally, I want to end all of it with a fail. As I try to grow one of the residential towers in picture 3, I got this 6x10 overhanging lot out of all that would grow

7YTni.jpg

Research Pics and stuff: Kuwana, Mie Prefecture, Japan

Last night, I took a random research trip (ala street view) in the city of Kuwana, just west of the massive metropolis of Nagoya. It inspired me to change some stuff on my cities, like adding various shrines or temples in my update. (I was also looking for the grave of Tadakatsu Honda (a samurai in the Sengoku Period of Japan), took me 3 hours and some innumerable street view pics later ). I also finally found Nagashima Spa Land in Japan! It will also be archived for later updates. :D

Here's what I found:

7Zh4x.jpg

This is a nice inspiration for a small town downtown:

http://goo.gl/maps/zqLUk

Roads are really tight, even for a small town:

http://goo.gl/maps/XYNVY

That's about it folks!

I'll bite - Queen Mary?

(Or perhaps Queen Elizabeth...)

We have a winner!

It is the Queen Mary. It will be yet another automata to take the place of the cruise ship. But that's not all- I am doing the Queen Mary 2 as well!

Looks great Tonraq. You might want to add some more commercial/residential buildings, as you said, to make a cleaner transition between houses and skyscrapers.

Your historical town is giving me some inspiration for a large scale shrine town.... ;)

I'll take a quiet life... A handshake of carbon monoxide.

Neat.

QE2, Normandie or Titanic would be interesting options as well if you ever had the opportunity.
