@tariely really nice lots, and much needed ones! What about a W2W version? Maybe with a custom building?

Ah. Yes. I remember that one, now. I thought it looked weird, at the time ; so three of them side by side is weirdfor me...*

Just looking for some compact sollution as most ancient stations have a fixed size. Wien West BHF nowadays mostly a commuter station it doesn´t require as much track work !

@Silur If it weren't for the UI showing, I would be confused about being watching satellite photos (particularly on the first one!). Yours is truly a mastery on using textures and MMPs to compose beautiful scenes.

@Tyberius06 you are making me feel sorry for developing a region so dry, now I'll have to find a good excuse to make those fantastic canals to appear anyway on there. They are simply gorgeous!

@Tyberius06 : useful relots !!! *:thumb: Remembering my problems with Diggis ponds baked in water (I relotted two whole sets of them, one urban one wild) I am wondering, though : will this set come in a transparent version) so that we can use it with any water (read : Tahoe....) I think (fear...) the Paeng pieces do come with baked-in Peg Pond water, but not the WMP pieces ?

Well, I haven't planed to make it transparent, but I can experiment the possibilities. This set will come as you see, since It meant to be an expansion for Paeng's URC. I'm not sure that removing the base texture and the main water tile prop, how the rest of the lot with the props will work together with other type of water tiles or MMP waters. Well if the water tile prop wouldn't overdraw the walls in a very ODD way, than maybe that could be working.

The WMP team and also Murimk made props and lots to work together nicely most of the water stuff, and the original LOTs were transparent. On my picture the WMP and Murimk pieces were relotted with the PEG-Pond water, because of the different orientation of the original WMP/Murimk marina LoTs.

My problem with all the canal sets around the Exchanges is the poor selection of usable Road/Rail etc network bridges. I mean in this set the bridge props (not the pedestrian type bridges), or the SG-CAL canal modular bridge edge props can't give me the impression that anything could go through under them. CAL's Stone canal set has bridge props which can make me belive that a boat or anything can pass through under them and there is the PEG PPond Canal Kit Bridges, but those have baked in water texture, and can not be used with other water props. Most of the canals have the same problem, they don't have enough dept, the key point is the distance between the water surface and the bridge.

There were a few canal set projects with very nice and convincing new canal bridges (still baked in water textures, but the bridges were made high enough) but all of them has been left abandoned.

Yo, guys --

I know this is off-topic -- and I apologize.  But there is no good place to take this question -- and there aren't even any people in the "chat" room.

I need someone to recommend a good -- safe -- mp4 video player for Vista and Windows 7.

I tried a couple of free downloads -- but Norton Security didn't like them (one was only a week old and there was no history available for Norton to check).

Anyone using a good -- SAFE -- FREE -- player ??

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

Hi @Dreadnought!

I have been using the K-lite codec pack with Media Player Classic Home Cinema (MPC-HC) now for about a decade on different OSs (first Win-XP, than Win 7, than Win 10, now again on Win 7) without any issue. I don't know which kind of filter system the Norton does have, but it's working for me perfectly under Avast and AVG on two different machines (laptop and desk PC).

Here is the link: https://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_standard.htm

The standard version should be enough if you don't want to play with video editing.

Quote

The package contains both 32-bit and 64-bit codecs. It is no longer necessary to install 64-bit codecs separately.

I hope it helps!

Hi!

It's looking good. I can't recall if I've ever seen this type of Elevated Rail Station on Road. I like the neighborhood what your sims built there. :D:D

Can you tell me what are the following buildings on your last picture:

- station

- narrow tall building parallel with the station on the left side.

- the 2 other taller building around the above mentioned one (same side - one of them is behind it, other one has a green-ish glass roof)

- the 4-5 stories building the upper right side of the station (white wall at the ground floor, light brown-ish walls on upper stairs)

Thanks in advance!

- Tyberius

The station is included in the NAM

The narrow tall building which is cornea-burning white and sky-blue? That's a maxis building

The one with the glass roof is maxis too

the white, ochre and orange building, also maxis.

Yup, that's super crazy, but when one fills too much the Plugins folder, you start wondering which objects are from the vanilla game...

I know the maxis buildings only from PIM-X, since I've been blocking them all the time when I'm playing! :D:D:D

Thanks, I guess I need to make some relots from them! :D

You don’t even need to make relots.  Just download the Maxis building plop mod.  You can still restrict growing Maxis buildings, but with the plop mod you can still use them.

Having said that, I think the Maxis buildings get a bad rep.  I actually like a lot of them.  I use the plop mod, and I let them grow too.  If I don’t like what I see I demo it and wait and see what replaces it.

It definitely works! The only change I would do in virtue of realism would be to bend the plain at one side to point downwards to the entrance of the cavern, because otherwise the water would have eroded that rock mass and created a short deep canyon.

Well, that and the fact that those houses should be a busy tourist trap if the place is even remotely accessible

Seems there is a road. But I concur, just a little bit more terraforming would do. Still, mostly it does work. SPEKTAKULAR !!! You should definitively gussy up the place as a tourist trap.

Good call.  Waterfront highways provide nice views for drivers but that's about it.  They're a cancer on cities themselves.  Open those waterfronts up for people, not cars!

VLC Media player is all you should ever need and supports pretty much every codec out of the box.

There's a fundamental flaw though with this type of Whitelisted security arrangement, it's simply just a means to spread paranoia rather than protect you. Lord knows, Norton can flag things as safe that aren't and equally allow viruses/nasties through without noticing. That's the problem here, Norton makes you think it knows what is and isn't safe and is checking things to keep you protected. But that couldn't be further from the reality, they are just assuming everything they don't know to be safe isn't. So the real question is, can you trust Norton, frankly I wouldn't, their reputation speaks otherwise.

...there is the PEG PPond Canal Kit Bridges, but those have baked in water texture, and can not be used with other water props. Most of the canals have the same problem, they don't have enough depth, the key point is the distance between the water surface and the bridge.

Ultimately these things come from limitations and difficulties in modelling/modding. Why bake water into your canal sets?, simple, otherwise you won't get proper reflections and shadows appearing. In short, it makes the final product look better, even if it does remove some flexibility. In respect of both SG's and CALs remastered sets (plus MAS71's JRP), at least the base models exist for others to make new pieces for them. That's always the kicker, a modular set missing something you really need is always a bummer. But without releasing the modelling files, it's impossible to make new stuff that matches, so unless you want to remake the wheel, you are stuck.

As for the depth of canals, again I think this is mostly because SC4 models when under the ground plane, i.e. below the surface, suffer a number of pitfalls. Not to mention, to go deeper, you have to make the canals wider, or it just looks wrong scaling-wise. There are other considerations too, whilst I agree we don't have a huge number of options for bridges/canals, it's perhaps a good time to remind people of the CAN-AM mod in the NAM. With it you can cross canals at 15m with Roads, Avenues, OWRs, Rail, Monorail, El-Rail and Elevated Highways. Yes, these bridges are devoid of variation, but a little clever modding would allow bridge "skins" to be placed around them. Sadly this isn't an area too many modders have explored, although BuddyBud did release a fantastic set. BiPin also experimented (with great results) here too. Just a shame more options don't exist for this.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).
