Okay, so here's the next set of HD props. Took three days to model and render. I estimate I'll have another three or four more like this. I have an additional 250 railcar and container/intermodal textures left.

Thanks for remaking these railcars and other industrial props. Are you remaking the forklifts, pallet lifters, dollys etc.. too?

@Tyberius06 Yes, I'll be remaking everything I can. Some of the props may take some time, as I don't have the original gmax files anymore and they're a bit complicated.

"Don't go into the shadows - !! The lighthouse keeper is the evil serial-killer !!  (At least -- that's what Miss Marple says...)*;)

@Honolulu

I think the shadow results from putting the lighthouse lot on top of an uneven surface.  If you flattened the ground (if that's possible) in that spot it might make the shadow go away.

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

More Hybrid-Railway-related shenanigans!

Now it's the turn of the next town over, Ciudad del Arado, which will feature in my CJ… I don't know, not for a while (?). There's a main line, not pictured, that was supposed to be turned into HRW, but I got carried away and also converted not one but both entrances to Ciudad del Arado, which is at best a 3,000-pop town, with a small port for grain shipments and whatnot. Now, ordinarily, this wouldn't be an issue, since HRW lines can also carry freight. But, uh, I was in a bind for space. Since the main line through town now had a station (bottom left, next to the park) I needed a new, freight-exclusive line and the only way was through the town.

So, it was time for the good ol' cut-and-cover railway!

vbJzvBO.png

gTYTGT0.png

All this meant, of course, that freight trains now have to take the long way around, so all the farms prefer to take trucks out of town. But hey, at least they have a way to get to the port, should they choose that.

And I'll get a new, more central rail spur at some point, or something.

Yo, guys -- *:D

I need to find what may be a very obscure lot……

I tried posting this message on the "Can't find it" thread -- but I'm not getting any feedback -- so......

Many, many years ago – in a galaxy far, far away – I downloaded an old industrial lot.

This thing was some sort of custom-made factory or refinery thrown together out of many old Maxis industrial props, and as many different factories as he could find.

It was pretty well done – but he set it on fire! At the time I was interested in building factories – not burning them down – so I deleted that one. *

BUT -- He used some sort of “animated” smoke&fire “effects” to gradually turn the lot into a roaring inferno.

Now I want to try using his methods to set battleships on fire !!

Can anyone tell me if the original “flaming” industrial lot is still in the game – and where to download it ??

I'm pretty handy with fire...

Seriously, most of the smoke and fire effects will be listed quite cleverly as EFFECTS in LotEditor. You'll also find them lotted by themselves for different scenarios, on the STEX. I have most of them, but not currently handy for me, on another drive. Otherwise, I'd give you their names. They don't work very well, so I imagine if you are trying to achieve a raging inferno, you'd have to add a lot of them.

Yo, guy --

I'm afraid rampant model "LOD's" put an end to the idea of torching a battleship.  So much for the idea of making "S'mores" over a confined compartment blaze.

Just for the record -- it was not one of "AP's" models -- he's very good about keeping his LOD's tight. *:thumb:

That makes me think of "Fire Down Below" -- Robert Mitchum -- Jack lemon. *:D

Amusingly, @SIM-ple Jack's mock up and @Dreadnought's intentions remind me greatly of a series videos I had watched by Samuel Resin Models on YouTube of creating diorama battle scenes using plastic model kits of 1/700 scale battleships.  The most jaw-dropping to me was an exploding and sinking Yamato diorama, and though these are physical plastic kits dioramas, they are not too unlike the digital models and dioramas we all make in SimCity, and in this case especially the marvelous city journal Imperial Dockyards:  Cuxhaven.

I like how the modeler after some comments in the first video went back to not only add more battle damage in the second video, but went far further and has the decks and water now running red with spilled blood.  Like @Dreadnought's current search for shell splashes the plastic kit modeler here too had to devise a means to construct bomb and torpedo splashes, though in this case physically with festooned cotton balls.  I have no doubt the non-physical SimCity version will amaze us all.

Enjoy, and I hope these were interesting or inspiring!

Hmm, made me think of The Naughty Stewardesses - Connie Hoffman, but, that's a story for another day. *:kitty:

Yo, Odainsaker -- *:D

Hadn't heard from you for some time -- thanks for dropping in -- !

I'm afraid my "brainstorm" for creating "gunfire", shell splashes, and shipboard fires has been defeated by the random vagaries of "LOD's" and the limitations of the old Maxis 3-D modeling software.  I was able to duplicate something similar to "SIM-ple Jack's" shipboard fire -- but I was unable to create anything realistic enough to make it worthwhile.

At the moment, I'm not sure there is a solution available using available SC4 "effect props" and my current model collection.

I will just have to "Make-do and Carry On" -- as the British would say.  *:thumb:

Ohhh this looks so good. Great to see the outcome from a few days ago with figuring out the fire textures. Definitely looking forward to seeing some CJs with these. It makes me think of a lot of WWII convoy paintings, such as Kenneth King's painting of the sinking of the Clonlara.

Another little thing for your viewing pleasure. These are a simple 1x1 and 2x1 lot I made to add a bit more variety to my industry areas. I'll upload them as soon as I'm sure they work properly.

They look fantastic!

Could you maybe do a tiny power substation, in the same footprint?

I love the size and shape of this, and it would be nifty to have a small power plant (similar vibe to this and the Maxis water pump)

Thanks and cheers!
