  1. A suburb is a residential area or a mixed use area, either existing as part of a city or urban area or as a separate residential community within commuting distance of a city. Progress on my city has been very limited recently and therefore it's been a while since my last update. But I've been working on some of the suburbs of Port de Caravella and it's time to share some pictures of the progress made. The suburbs are a combination of hotels, houses, apartments, shops and sports fields. The various pictures below show examples of all of them. The Grand Incan is the biggest resort in Port de Caravella and is located on one of the best beaches on the Island. An ideal place to relax and enjoy the best of Port de Caravella. And, as always: if you like it, let me know!
  2. It's summer, so let's go to the beach! And although Port de Caravella has several urban beaches, the Plage du Lac is a favorite with both locals and tourists. Located in the Nouvelle suburb, Plage du Lac is a popular beach due to fact that there are many small restaurant is the area. With two universities close by, the beach is also popular with students. The Plage du Lac is enclosed with several highrise apartment buildings and the famous RLS Resort. Next to the beach you can grab something to eat or drink at a Panera Bread, Carl's Diner, Starbucks or one of the local stands selling fruit and ice cream. At the other end of the Nouvelle suburb, an old part of the harbour has been completely renovated. As part of the renovation a large number of apartment buildings have been build on the edge of the harbour, previously occupied by warehouses and other industry. Replies: @mike_oxlong: I've looked around, but there are not many good examples of a Zoo on Simtropolis. So maybe you can add another one ;-) @TekindusT @Dgmc2013: Thanks for the positive feedback! @kingofsimcity: Many, many thanks for creating those textures! My city wouldn't look anything like it does without them. But, not everybody has left the harbour. The Police, Fire Department and Coast Guard still operate from an area at the top of the harbour. And, as always: if you like it, let me know!
  3. Caravella Zoo, short for Port de Caravella Zoo and Wildlife Sanctuary, is a zoo on the edge of the Kronenbourg park in Port de Caravella. The zoo is the only zoo in the Principauté de Caravella-Guatalaga. Caravella Zoo also ownes and operates the Port de Caravella Aquarium, which is located in the new suburb called 'Nouvelle'. Tickets bought at the zoo are therefore also valid at the aquarium and vice versa. The Port de Caravella Zoo and Wildlife Sanctuary is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), the International Species Information System (ISIS), and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). Inspired by a 1908 visit to the Hamburg Zoo, the founder of the Caravella Zoo, Albert Gassin, envisioned a zoo based on the bar-less concept. Gassin shared his vision with the ruling prince at that time, Prince Phillipe IV de Caravella, who granted Gassin 20 acres of land on the hillside at the northern edge of what is now Parque Kronenbourg. The Caravella Zoo was officially opened on 5 October 1916. The zoo has 2 entrances: the main entrance includes a parking lot and bus station, is located at Rue de Conil. The second, smaller, entrance can be reached by climbing the stairs that connects Kronenbourg park to the zoo. The zoo has a restaurant, zoo shop, lookout tower, information centre, several eating areas and a playground. Apart from being a zoo, the Caravella Zoo also is the home of the Wildlife Sanctuary. Zoo Friends offers support in form of volunteers and fund raising for both Port de Caravella Zoo and the Port de Caravella Aquarium. Members are offered behind-the-scenes experiences at the zoo and unlimited zoo entry. Members are also eligible to volunteer to help at the zoo. @JP Schriefer @mike_oxlong @Akallan @GoKingsGo @RandyE @TekindusT @BLANKBLANK @Takingyouthere: Thanks to all of you for the nice comments on the previous Nouvelle update. @_Michael: The platforms are props by Working Man Productions, not sure which file, but have a look around on his website: http://workingman-productions.co.uk. The bollards are just props. @kschmidt: Although I like the Sky Tower building, i'll stick to the Euromast one (just to have some Dutch buildings in the city ;-) And, as always: if you like it, let me know!

Currently working on putting a Zoo together ...
  5. In 1979, several architects designed 'plan nouveau' (new plan) for a new extention of Port de Caravella which was to be build on the other side of the bay and would house 100,000 residents, various hotels and cultural buildings. Although the plan was well received with both the local and national governments, the plan was deemed too ambitious and expensive to execute. But in the 1990's local and national governments, backed by the increasing income from oil fields, started plans to turn this dream into reality. This was mainly driven by the fact that the land around the old town of Port de Caravella was lacking of good building spots and beachfront locations. In 1994 the construction of the new neighbourhood called 'Nouvelle' started with the build of the Centre de Conference. The new neighbourhood was build to become a tourist hotspot. Apart from the Centre de Conference, the 'Nouvelle' neighbourhood also contains the Port de Caravella Aquarium, the Heineken Tower, the Stade Nationale football stadium, a casino, a cinema, several hotsels and resorts and the largest university of the country. The 'Nouvelle'neighbourhood is connected to the old town by a mayor causeway that has splitted the bay into a smaller bay and a large enclosed lake. This causeway was also build to reduce the total number of kilometers of coastline that is exposed to the open ocean. This to reduce the chance of floods. On the westside of the new neighbourhood several highrise appartment buildings were contructed in the early 2000's. The Millennium Towers are the tallest residential buildings of the country. @Takingyouthere: Thanks for the positive feedback, i'm trying to build the city as realistic as possible. @lolo69ol01: Those walls are just textures that i found on the STEX (or LEX - not sure). @Akallan @korver @Abrams124 @Simmer2 @JP Schriefer @vinlabsc3k: Thanks all for the positive comments and feedback, hope you all like this update as well! As always: if you like it, let me know!
  6. Thank you for the kind words @korver!
  7. To be honest, when someone like @korver names you as the up-and-coming member, you get really nervous posting the next update ;-) Hopefully it can meet the expectations ... (interview with Korver: http://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/72468-a-trixies-interview-with-korver) Lately I have been working on various small changes to Port de Caravella. So, in this update there are no big new developments, but small areas that add a little bit more size to the city. Parc Kronenbourg The first addition that I want to show you is the Parc Kronenbourg: the biggest park in Port de Caravella. The park is built in the former garden of the Presidential Palace. The rebuilt of the park started in 1978 when the city needed a new city hall. This was built in the garden of the palace. The city hall is built in a middle eastern style, giving it a huge contrast with the surrounding building which are built in a French style. The park is build for the people of Port de Caravella and contains a playground, a mini golf course, several petanque (or Jeux de Boules) fields, the Port de Caravella Visitor Centre and the National War Memorial. Eglise Sorbonne The Eglise Sorbonne or the Sorbonne church is a church build on a hill near the market square. This church is also known as the new church as it is the biggest church build after the Cathedral. These days, the church is surrounded by the Sorbonne suburb, but there is still a small graveyard next to the church. The main avenue of Port de Caravella is built underneath the square and buildings in front of the church. Le Phare (The Lighthouse) The lighthouse of Port de Caravella is build at the end of the 1950's and is still an active lighthouse today. Once the only way to find your way safetly into Caravella Bay, it now has more of a symbolic status than a actual contribution to safety. @mike_oxlong: I'm not sure what the terrain mod is, but most of the tree placements are lotted, just a small number is MMP. @Akallan: Thanks! @89James89: Thanks! @juliok92012: Thanks! Bonus: City overview Last but not least, i've added a small bonus: the city overview. So now you get a real idea of how it all comes together ;-) As always: if you like it, let me know!
  8. @Andrey km the mall is this one:
  9. This is the 10th update from Principauté de Caravella-Guatalaga. So for this update no long stories and facts, just 10 random pictures of: Port de Caravella. If you like it, let me know!
  10. Port de Caravella: Abelia suburb

@kingofsimcity @sucram17 : I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post individual lots to the STEX as all buildings that I use are created by others. - I simply changed textures and props. Do you guys know?
  11. Since the Principauté de Caravella-Guatalaga has become a popular tourist destination, the housing market has been booming. Especially apartments in and around the capital, Port de Caravella, are popular. To meet the increased demand, the city counsel decided in 2000 to demolish an old Industrial area just outside the old city walls and rebuild the area with various apartment buildings and commercial buildings. The new suburb build is called Abelia. The suburb is ideally located next to the old city and also has a CGLR light rail station. There is also an Aldi supermarket build on the edge of the suburb. The most iconic building that was build in the new Abelia suburb is the Abelia tower. With 96 meters it is the highest tower in Principauté de Caravella-Guatalaga to date. On the edge of the suburb are various commercial buildings. Beside the Aldi, there are also car dealerships located for Volkswagen, Dodge/Jeep, Chevrolet, Audi, Kia and Fiat. There is also a large Shell service station and the Red Roof Inn, a motel. @Ln X @mike_oxlong @JP Schriefer @whiteshark365 @123deoliveira4 @Akallan @Takingyouthere : Thanks for all the positive feedback! :-) :-) @jmsepe : Progress is slow ;-) But yes, it does take some time ... @kschmidt : Thanks for the feedback! The trucks do need a tight turn ... If you like it, let me know!
  12. In the previous entry I've showed you guys the Passenger Terminal, but of course there is more to do in and around the commercial harbor. The Container Terminal is the main point for all general cargo transshipment handlings. The Container Terminal as an important transit point for transport of bulk and other goods between the European continent and the Principauté. The port is operated by the Port de Caravella Port Authority, originally a municipal body of Port de Caravella, but since 1 January 2004, a government corporation jointly owned by Port de Caravella and the Principauté de Caravella-Guatalaga. @feyss @JP Schriefer @mike_oxlong @kschmidt @_Michael @whiteshark365 @vinlabsc3k @kingofsimcity @Urban Constanta @Ln X @raynev1 : Merci! Next to the Container Terminal is also the Cruise Ship Terminal which can accomodate small and medium cruise ships that visit the Principauté de Caravella-Guatalaga on a regular basis. If you like it, let me know!
  13. With the Principauté de Caravella-Guatalaga being a group of islands, travelling to mainland Europe is vital to the economy of the Principauté. In the past 10 years air travel has become the main way of transport from Port de Caravella to Mainland Europe, but the 'good old' ferry is still very popular with transport companies and locals. In the late 70's of last century, the local governement turned an abandoned part of the port into a Passenger Terminal to accomodate the growing number of people using the various ferry services. Today, the Passenger Terminal is still looking the same on the outside, but has completely been renewed on the inside. Port de Caravella is connected by ferry to 4 destinations on the European mainland. These destinations are Marseille (France), San Sebastian (Spain), Porto (Portugal) and Lisbon (Portugal). The services are operated by Trasmediterranea, an Acciona company. Replies @_Michael i believe that the platforms are part of the St. Paola Train Station @Takingyouthere@feyss @JP Schriefer @MushyMushy @whiteshark365 @raynev1 Thanks so much for positive feedback - glad you all enjoy it. @kschmidt The Ritz project is interesting to use, thanks for the tip! @sucram17 the tram is part of the nice work done by Simmer2 @mike_oxlong there is not much to teach ... i'm not using mods so it's a matter of creating a lot with various base textures, overlayers and props ... Next to the Ferry Passenger Terminal is also a Cruise Ship Terminal which can accomodate small and medium cruise ships that visit the Principauté de Caravella-Guatalaga on a regular basis. If you like it, let me know!
  14. As tourism is booming in Principauté de Caravella-Guatalaga, the number of hotel rooms is also increasing rapidly in Port de Caravella. Various hotels have opened in recent years with big chains like Hyatt, Mercure and Holiday Inn trying to get a fair share of the tourism market. One of the fine exceptions to these chains is the Victoria Hotel located at Place Victoria. The hotel originally opened in 1788 and is a landmark building ever since. Today, Hotel Victoria is located at the point where both Light Rail lines (Ligne Bleu and Ligne Rouge) come together ... but more on that in a later update. Since 2007, the Grand Hyatt Hotel is located next door to Hotel Victoria. Replies @kschmidt @v701 @sucram17 @raynev1 @feyss @_Michael @TekindusT Thank you all so much for the positive comments! @mike_oxlong The boulevard is very custom, but unfortunately not a mod that i can share ... Another addition to the booming tourist industry is the Spring Mall, located on the west side of the old city. The mall holds 78 different Retail stores, including brands like Zara, Mango, Media Markt, H&M and a Coca-Cola brand store. Across from the Spring Mall is the CBS (Caravella Broadcasting Service) building. All national TV and radio stations are located within this building. But if you are a tourist and want to escape all of this, then Plage de Petite Baie is the place to go. Although being one of the smallest beaches in the country it's less touristic as the bigger beaches and usually occupied by the locals that live in the old town. If you like it, let me know!
