Hello all together, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a way to make prop families previewable on a lot and query the prop as main building. I know that for normal props there are the following two settings: However when adding these properties to the exemplars of a prop family or the cohort file they seem not to work, or I am doing something wrong. Example of my Cohort file of the prop family: Individual exemplar files of props in prop family: The prop family itself works perfectly fine, but none of the props in it are previewable on the lot before plopping or can be queried as main building. Thanks very much for any advide

Family reunion - the prop family diary
TheMurderousCricket posted a topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Good morning or good afternoon to some. I decided to create a new topic that would document what I'm trying to do. My ultimate goal is to create some tree-only lots for later use in the game. As I mentioned a few days ago, I'm just tired of painting entire swathes of SC4 landscapes with MMPs. I have lots of fine tree and bush models in my plugins folder, but there is just one big problem - they are scattered about in numerous .dat files which makes using them as prop families in forest lots a little bit of a hassle. Especially when you realize that some of the prop families have repeating instances of trees and shrubs. Thus, I wish to coalesce all these models into separate, bigger sets which are more manageable from the landscaper's point of view. The final goal, as I currently envisage it, is to have just five, maybe six prop families from which I can later build forest lots. I decided to write down this process so that anyone who ventures upon the same trail can look it up, and get the jist of the workflow involved. A little disclaimer though - this will not be a tutorial so no step-by-step instructions will be offered. Rather a record of my thoughts regarding the entire process and its stages. This is by no means a prescriptive guide and you may, in fact, find a better way to do the same thing on your own. Of course, any comments and ideas regarding my methods are welcome! _____________________ 01.07.2021 The first stage I determined would be necessary for me to complete this project was to actually familiarize myself with the (already vast) contents of my plugins folder. I needed to know exactly what trees and plants I already have and see how exactly do they look like. In order to do that, I opened the LE and, first of all, created some "Display Lots" where I put some of the "suspect" prop families. By "suspect" I mean "prop families that seem to contain some flora". Another step was to take a closer look at the contents of the prop families I used in the "test lots". By that I mean - exact filenames of the floral props. Currently, I am in the process of writing all these prop names down so that I can later segregate and rearrange them into new prop families. I actually use four "modifiers". The type of flora (a tree or a shrub?), the size of an object (S, M, L, XL?), the type of forest a prop is likely to grow in (mixed, jungle, coniferous, deciduous) and my highly prejudiced and fully subjective quality rating for a given object (three levels - an OK prop, a good prop, a beauty prop). I use an excel chart to record all of this. Here's how it looks: The idea now is to continue to write the prop names down until all prop families are examined. It seems like a big deal but it's not that bad once you realize that, as stated above, some items will repeat from one prop family to another and you no longer need to inspect them. Once I get all the names, I will then sort all the items to assign them into new prop families I'd like to use. The size and type of forest an item grows in will be the main keys for that operation. I don't actually think that geographic distribution of a given species is something I should worry about too much in a game, right?- 3 Replies

This is a question that came up today in chat after Girafe was kind enough to make some excellent fence props to replace a few maxis fences. There was a fence created with a few variations of ivy and I thought it would be cool to put them in a family. However, the original goal was to override one prop, which works just fine with a 1 to 1 replacement, however, what about telling the game to use a family for that prop instead? I know that the original prop exemplar has to be overridden somehow, but I can't get it to become reference to the family instead. Anyone know if this is possible?

Hi everyone I have an issue with keeping the footprint when making propfamilies. I've noticed that this issue only occurs when i insert the propfamily property into an exemplar that is large (about 400-600), its not prevalent when the value is 200 as seen below. So my question is, what can i do to solve this issue.

The 1x1 Small Plaza has a randomized object in the centre of that tile that can be, for example, a statue or hotdog stand. However, this randomized object does not appear in the Prop Families listed in the Lot Editor. Clicking on the object in the Lot Editor states it to be a standard Prop. If one looks up this Prop number in the Prop List while working on another lot and places it, then it appears as the Prop, not a Prop Family. How is this object listed as a Prop yet appearing as an unlisted Prop Family? The base tile of the Small Plaza, as well as Open Paved Area, is also randomized, from a small selection of patterns. How does the base texture from this tile become randomized? Does this randomized base texture tile also affect the randomized object that appears on it?

The BNL Essentials is a set of files packed into one upload for your convenience. The set will be updated regularly and will contain all kinds of files that are essential for (most) BNL uploads to work properly. Today, april 1st, 2016, we see version 2.0 that contains the BNL Queries v1.3, some props by MVE and a several new files: the FrankU Essentials V2.0. This is a set of many edited props and prop families that were scattered over several uploads. Now all in one compact set. The latest version of this pack will always be available on this spot. If you have any questions, please PM me. I am the guy who is responsible for the set, even if I did not make everything myself. FrankU Update: 16.01.2024 by Tyberius06 - added dependency list This dependency upload has additional dependencies, that you need to have in order to properly use these props and prop families: Dependencies: These are the most common dependencies for this upload, maybe a few of them were left out. KrashSpeed’s Mailbox Set First I would like to give credit where it’s due. I made the props, contributed a few ideas and a few suggestions. SimCoug deserves most of the credit. This mod was his idea; he made the prop families, mmp’s, icons, and the read me. ====================================================================================== DESCRIPTION: Could you go 10 years without receiving a single piece of mail? Well, your Sims have - but that is about to change! This is an all encompassing set of mail props that will cover your Sims postal needs from drop-off to delivery. WHAT'S INCLUDED? Props: -10 different single mailbox props for each wealth level ($, $$, $$$ - 30 total models) -14 different mailbox cluster props (seen in housing developments, etc) -10 different mailbox unit props (often used in apartment complexes, etc) -9 different post box props from 8 different countries (where you Sims can drop off outgoing mail) MMPs: -Mailbox$_MMP allows you to plop 10 low wealth mailboxes -Mailbox$$_MMP allows you to plop 10 medium wealth mailboxes -Mailbox$$$_MMP allows you to plop 10 high wealth mailboxes -MailboxCluster_MMP allows you to plop 14 different mailbox clusters -MailboxUnits_MMP allows you to plop 10 different mailbox units -PostBoxes_All_MMP allows you to plop each of the different countries post boxes -PostBoxes_(different country name)_MMP allows you to plop the post box of the country of your choice (multiple clicks changes the orientation) Prop Families: For those who use the Lot Editor, appropriate prop families have been created with these props in order to allow you to get more variety when creating lots. DEPENDENCIES: None! But this should be considered a dependency pack for future lots that include these props. INSTALLATION: Simply unzip the file and put place the folder in your plugins. The 'Model' folder should remain in your plugin folder, but you can pick and choose which MMP files to include depending on you preference. DEVELOPER NOTES: SUPPORT: For questions regarding this set, please feel free to visit Krashspeed's Test Area. SPECIAL THANKS: Thanks to the gang over at SimPeg for all their suggestions and encouragement.- 16 Comments

Of course you may donwload this file, but in fact is has become obsolete since april 1st, 2016. Its content is now part of the BNL Essentials V2.0 or later. Prop Families are useful to make variation in your lots without having the neccessity to make a large amount of different lots. I am fond of them and have made a series of about 69 prop families. have fun with them. The read me file gives you all details of the Prop Families, including images of all of them. The download contains two sets of prop families: 1. The Maxis Prop Families. You don't need any dependency for these to work. 2. the Maxis and BSC Prop Families. For these you need the following dependencies: BSC MEGA Props - CP Vol01.dat BSC MEGA Props - D66 Vol01.dat BSC MEGA Props - Gascooker Vol01.dat BSC MEGA Props JRJ Vol04.dat BSC MEGA Props JRJ Vol05.dat BSC MEGA Props - MJB Vol01.dat BSC MEGA Props - RT Vol01.dat BSC MEGA Props - SG Vol 01.dat BSC MEGA Props - swi21 Vol01.dat That is quite a lot, but on the other hand: these are quite old files that are used by many uploaders, so you might have them all already. Have fun with them!- 3 Comments

Of course you may donwload this file, but in fact it has become obsolete. You can find its contents now in the BNL Essentials V2.0 or later. This is my third set of PropFamilies and therefore I called it Set 2. It contains three PropFamilies. I made them especially for my Container terminal lots. FU-Jes_Containerstacks_PropFamily This prop familiy contains Jes' six container stacks. There is already a prop family that contains the 15-containerstack props, but I added the 11-stack to it. This gives more variation on the lots. Dependency for this family: This one you will find on the LEX at SC4Devotion.com. You need to register at the site and additionally to the LEX. BSC MEGA Props - JES Vol07 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1495 FU_ContainerPortProps1 This prop family contains a variation of props that are to be found on Container terminals. My approach to prop families is slightly different than the usual. Usually a prop family contains props that are closely related, like a set of containers, each with a different colour. In that case you always get a container. This is convenient if you want that. But I wanted as much variation as I could make with a small amount of lots. So I made this prop family that contains empty trucks, containers, container cranes and container carriers. Every placement of the lot gives a different effect. Dependencies for this family: BSC BAT Props - T1 Vol3 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1764 BSC MEGA Props - JES Vol07 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1495 BSC MEGA Props - JES Vol08 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1778 FU_PEG_ContainersShips_PropFamily This prop family contains all seven container ship props by PEG. So the dependency is: PEG CDK3 SP Container Ship Fleet https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=19577 Have fun with them FrankU, 25-05-2010- 3 Comments

This is my first set of lots. It contains 25 lots for making large industrial warehouse complexes. Pityful enough they are complete and pure eye candy. I did my best to minimize the effects in game. Someday I will find an ingame purpose and a way to implement that. That will be version 2. The list of dependencies is long, so be warned. I'd advise you to take this set into your plugins only if you use JeStarr's megapacks already. Cogeo's Logistics Centre are a must for everyone who is interested in my lots. You will need them anyway, so why not plop these also into your industrial areas? I updated the list, because there was a flaw. Please look in the ReadMe. The list is there, complete with links for easy download. Now take a look and please feedback in my thread on SC4 Devotion. FrankU- 38 Comments

Of course you may donwload this file, but in fact is has become obsolete since april 1st, 2016. Its content is now part of the BNL Essentials V2.0 or later. And this is my second upload. This one also contains four PropFamilies. These propfamilies contain several mixed props from JeStarr's Mega Props. You need his Megaprops 1,2 and 4 as dependencies. See on SC4Devotion.com. You need to register there and an additional time on the LEX. JeStarr 1 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=342 JeStarr 2 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=338 JeStarr 4 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=791 These propfamilies are meant to be used in warehouse, seaport or industrial areas. I tried to make them in such a way that they give me maximum variation with minimum lots. I hope some of you will find them useful. These are also being developed for my upcoming Warehouse Pack, but don't wait too eager for it. Have fun with SC4, October 2009 FrankU- 9 Comments

Of course you may donwload this file, but in fact is has become obsolete since april 1st, 2016. Its content is now part of the BNL Essentials V2.0 or later. Dear SC4 addicts, This is my very first upload. I feel really proud, so I hope you think these files are useful. This download contains four PropFamilies. They contain the eight trucks by JES, that are to be found in the BSC MEGA Props - JES Vol06 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1416 So that file is the dependency. You can find it on SC4 Devotion.com. You need to register on the site and separately on the LEX for the downloads. One family contains the straight ones, the other ones are families of the 22.5 degree diagonal models left and right. The last one obviously is the 45 degrees diagonals family. You can put these files into your pluginsfolder and add them to your own lots. The download contains pictures of the propfamilies. There are no lots. I am working on a warehouse pack with these props, but that is not even nearly finished. They are usefull to some of you, I hope. Have fun with SC4, FrankU, October 2009.- 14 Comments
