  1. Crushedcar BAT Discussions

First of all, the rooftops need a lot of detail IMHO. Some skylights, HVACs, ventilation shafts, antennas... all that stuff, you know. Another issue is the smokestacks: I think they are too fat and short; besides they are absolutely cylindrical. I would refer them to get continuously thinner towards the top. Some nice additions to the walls might include large metal gates, maybe some more ventilation thingies and a loading bay or something. Anyway, nice start! Good luck with your BATting works. EDIT I forgot to mention: Check the scale of your building. I think the storeys are way too flat. It looks as if a sim were taller than that two-winged access door...

@ Fantail: Sure. Making plops with or without jobs is no problem for me. Besides, I have a huge database of decent stats for a building, based on the stats of the original Maxis buildings, which I browsed and analyzed. Custom menu icons wouldn't be a problem, either. If you want to see some proof / reference first, go check out One London Place by justanothersim86. I made a growable lot and a plop with jobs, plus I tweaked the original landmark lot and made a new custom icon. Oh, and I'm sure your tower will turn out well. Some more detail on the roof, some night lights, and it's ok. It will be a good, usable building and no fancy show-off thing. @ Trackersnip: I agree that it's perfectly possible for a building to have an overhang of that size. I just thought that some kind of column or whatever might make the building more interesting. Anyway, since you have it finished, all I can do is wait for it to appear on the STEX - and for you to start the next BAT, because you definitely show talent (both of you, that is). Go Goldfish Go!
  3. Star Wars Plaza

@ stormtrooper: My guess is that krao didn't bundle the original BAT model of the X-Wing with his lot. So you will have to download mak45's X-Wing BAT as well. Krao should have mentioned that as a dependency. Back to topic: The lot is ok, I think. Not spectacularly good, but ok.

OMG, there really seems to be a trend towards usable, realistic buildings now that every shiny CO$$$ monster has been BATted already - and that's definitely something I welcome! Both your buildings look absolutely perfect for actually using them and for building a halfways realistic city. @ Trackersnip: Wow, nice shape and nice size! Are the textures final, though? I'm asking because a tad more detail might not hurt... and that part where the upper storeys are overhanging the base (to the right on your pic) - are you planning to add some columns or something there to support the overhanging part of the building? I think it might look better that way... As for the roof, I think some kind of roof access and an antenna or two would contribute tremendously to the overall appearance of the building. Besides, most office blocks have the facade drawn a tad higher than the roof to hide some of that roof junk... maybe it would be an improvement to BAT something that keeps the roof from looking as if the building had just been cut off at that height? Well, I hope you don't take these suggestions and ideas as criticism... I already like your building a lot, and I'm just trying to help you make it perfect. Since I couldn't BAT a bricj, all I can do is suggest things and share some ideas - hoping that it will be more helpful than just saying great.
  5. CityTravel Center

So it has hit the STEX already - thanks again. I can second what rp2005 said.
  6. /Zumi/s BATs

You would have had 7 comments if I hadn't been at work, /zumi/. But now I'm home so that I can tell you: It sucks. Absolutely. Shocked? Don't worry, I was just kidding! This building is superb; I love it! It's a CO$$, not CO$$$, which is good. It's not too tall, which is good at well. It has an interesting shape, nice detail, interesting night lights, truly superb and realistic roof junk (arent't those antennas just perfect?) and a well-designed base. What more can one ask for? Thank you a hundred times for sharing such a great and useful building with us poor BAT analphabets. Two thumbs up from me!
  7. City Haus vol2

Wow, kudos to you for making a second, improved version! I will download and use this building for sure now. Thanks a thousand times and good luck with your future BAT experiments. Keep 'em coming! :o)
  8. 14 Story Brutalist Hospital

Wow, what a great BAT! I'm gonna remake the lot to get rid of most of the dependencies, though... and have a look at the stats to make sure they are not exaggerated. Thanks for giving us another nice hospital!
  9. Temple

Nice start! The lot is a bit bare; it could indeed use more props. As for the textures, make sure you read gascooker's tutorial on texture gradients and get some more structured and less monotonous stone textures, then this might become a great BAT. Anyway, keep up the good work!
  10. Enyati College

Hmm... this might become an excellent R$$ building in my cities... *evil grin* The building looks really great, superb work as usual! I hope you didn't only keep the original EQ boost value, but also the age group multipliers for the EQ effect?
  11. BSC Mac Archive

@ kbooms1w: Damn, you're right. I don't like this at all. Then again, I can understand your decision very well. I just hope that BSC will spare you MAc users and those few installer-hating PC users like me all the unnecessary hassle by offering their creations both packed in an installer and wrapped up in a ZIP. Thanks again for all the work you have done, and good luck with whatever you're up to.
  12. BSC Mac Archive

Hi everybody! I just wanted to use this occasion to leave a big, fat THANK YOU for you. I'm a PC user, but I loathe installers because I know where to put the stuff and how to read a readme, and I prefer sticking to my own sorting system. Your archive makes it much easier for me to do so, and you spare me the trouble of scratching all the files together after the installer copied them to folders I never selected, created folders I never wanted and opened windows I didn't want to see. With your ZIPs, I just unzip, sort and get happy. Thanks again for the tremendous work you are doing. A little praise for you is overdue. Keep up your good work! I appreciate it a lot.
  13. Portuguese Park

I suggest you try to use some rounded textures and many more flora props next time, because the way it is now, the park looks very bland and boring, tbh. Integrating some widespread prop/texture packs (SG Flora, cerulean textures) will help a lot, too.
  14. Igreja da Nossa Senhora da Conceicao

I won't use this since it doesn't match the style I'm going for, but I just have to leave a comment here because the BAT is incredibly great! Unique shape, fantastic textures, beautiful nightlighting - perfect!
  15. Suburban Home

Very realistic building, great work! The lot is the definition of boring, though. If you don't want to fiddle around with the LE after spending hours with BAT, you may want to consider getting someone to whip up lots for your creations. ;o)
  16. Imperial Plaza

I suppose this doesn't have night lights, does it? The building itself looks great, though, despite the somewhat odd shape and the bland lot.
  17. Prentiss Building

Wow, great buildings! We need more generic buildings to compensate for the excess of super-shiny, flashy CO$$$ show-off towers. That said, I think this would have been better as a CO$$ building. Oh well... *fires up Plugin Manager* ;o)
  18. Mietshaus ala Wandsbekstil Hamburg

Great and really needed! Super Teil - solche Dinger braucht das Land! :-D
  19. Consolidated Edison Building

What would you guys say if I made a growable (and ploppable, if you want) CO$$ building WITHOUT palms out of this? Btw, the building looks absolutely fantastic! I love it!
  20. Burj Khalifa

Basic, you say... This looks incredibly good so far!
  21. Underworld`s Bat projects

Interesting. I don't remember seeing any building of this style on the STEX.
  22. Glenni's BAT showcase

Are you going to BAT two entrances? I mean, one in the front, that's used for visitors etc., and one in the back, where ambulance cars can unload their cargo... All inall, it looks very realistic.
  23. ISAT-Showcase

Don't worry... if it's not growable, I'm not interested anyway.
  24. Underworld`s Bat projects

Well, you could ask someone to render it for you. Annoyingdan recently rendered a pretty huge residential high-rise that had been posted as a 3ds model by its creator, because he was unable to render it.
  25. A request for BATters using zip files

@ underworld: What you say about renaming is SO true. Merging files into a DAT can be ok, as long as the DAT doesn't contain various versions (growable AND ploppable, for example). Another downside of DATs can occur when two or more lots are merged into a DAT - if you think the building grows too much or you simply don't like one of the lots, you can't just delete the corresponding lot file. IMHO, an ideal ZIP would look like this: Building X by BATter Y (main folder contains readme and screenshots) | +building (contains the .sc4model) | + growable (lots & descs for growable version) + ploppable (lots & descs for ploppable version) + landmark (lots & descs for landmark version)
