Hi, in some parts of my cities, i have permanently glowing areas. Ranging from 0, 1 or 2 of such sites per city tile. It looks a bit like the haunted cemetery in october. Greenish, yellowish, shimmering glowing specs in an area of about 10x10. It occurs to me that SimCity tries to tell me this part of the city is promising for commercial expansion, but I don't know if I made that up myself or that I read that somewhere in the past. Anyway, I can't find anything about it too quickly. I also want to know if I can get rid of these glowings - and searching for a mod is easier if I know the name of the phenomenon. It has nothing to do with radiation, it occurs in nuclear free, clean neighborhoods (with a lot of commercial potential as the glow tries to tell me )

What's that green glowing glow?
bdehnwehn replied to bdehnwehn's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
PlanetOfHats, I think you're right! I just got another glow, right next to the bike shop. Unfortunately, I don't know either how to repair this in the plugin. I do like the building though, so i'm keeping the plugin. Understanding a problem better makes it less annoying, so that's good. Thanks! -
Canals blueish on transportation map (region view) Hey, it kinda bothered me that the canals appeared green on the transportation map. Of coarse this is because they are situated in de parks menu. Also, in my opinion it would make more sense if they were in the water transportation menu: canal = water. So I manually moved them to water transportation and, ta-da: blue(ish) canals on my map (well, I first had to replace every canal with the new water menu canal pieces, but for new cities the result is instant). So here's my NAM-request: maybe this is reason enough to put canal stuff in the water transportation menu by standard? Note that I use the Edmonton Transportation Map mod, but I believe this works also in standard maxis map because parks are green there too and harbors grayish blue or something.

First of all: the problem described below was solved by closing and reloading the city. So I am not in need of help, but I have no idea what happened and why. I post this more 'for the record' (might someone in future search for this bug) or for the possibility that this indeed never was recorded and SimCity-experts are interested in it. Well, this is what happened: I loaded a tile I have been working on for some time. It opened, and after 1 second, the place was scattered in garbage like in the picture. Garbage graph shows why: my sims decided to put over 20 million garbage-units on the street. In fear of the negative consequences for the neighborhood, I tried to google for a solution but found nothing. Then I tried to clean it up as quickly as possible with an army of waste-to-power plants. Originally, there where no such plants in the city, but I had a large landfill. The plants didn't seem to drop the curve, and since I had not had the time to actually develop anything, I could safely not save the tile and go back to region. Reloading the tile gave me my city back: everything normal, no garbage surplus. Landfill was half empty, sims grateful for my nifty garbage collection service. Strange thing, loading the same saved city with different results. I remember having the same issue some weeks ago. It appears to be random and, fortunately, rare. If this intrigues anyone, the bad news is that I can't give much information about it: I can't reproduce it and I don't have a saved game with the problem. I didn't install any new plugins recently and played many other tiles before and after without surprises.

Hey, For 1-level rail, there seem no orthogonal-over-diagonal pieces, at least not all basic ones. With the amount of networks that were made over the years, it's not so strange that once in a while a combination is not there. Still I hope these pieces will become available with a new NAM. (and secretly I hope these pieces were made, and then just missed when putting together the new NAM).

I like Maxis highways... Because they're grey, because they're easy to lay, and because of their (NAM) interchanges!

I love these diagonal homes! But often they bothered me, appearing on orthogonal grid corners. That took a lot of rebuilding and making historic. But not anymore! What I did: I removed all 1x2 diagonal homes from the .dat-file, using ilivereader (here's how). Now I can control where diagonal homes will NOT appear, by zoning only 1x2 residential on orthogonal corners. (2x2 diagonals still can appear since I kept them, but that doesn't happen too often). So, SimCoug, if you want your pack to be less 'not for everybody', you know what to do: splitting the dat-file in 3 parts: 1x1's, 1x2/2x2's and 1x3's, explain this method and let users choose what tot do. Anyway, just my thoughts! Your homes make suburbs much more realistic.

Hi, I'm still one of those maxis highway users. Since recent NAM-installation, the STR-Elevated highway crossing doesn't show. I think I had this problem also with the NAM39 version, but not with NAM 36 and older. For NAM41 installation I selected all railway options except Hybrid Railway and High Speed Rail Project, and of course all maxis highway options. Is there a fix to this?

Moving lots to different menu categories?
bdehnwehn replied to lather30's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Found out today about OccupantGroups, really happy about it! Finally got some weird placed items put in the right menu. I wondered if the road menu was also available to place lots, but now I'm definitely sure that it's not. So THAT's why all car related lots (like parking) end up in the misctransit menu. Then I considered moving some things to the almost empty fire menu, but nah, that's weird again. -

looks good, and calm. I specially like the variety and the kind of randomness; it makes me wonder what was there before the sports center, and how nice the ponds must have looked before urbanisation. I don't know if you let this town grow 'naturally'; if not: it looks like it anyway, and that's a compliment. What terrain mod do you use? I like the grass/dirt texture

Underground-Rail Station (NOT SUBWAY)
bdehnwehn commented on InCommandOfCars's file in Transportation
in what menu should it appear? I have installed it but can't find it. I have the sunken plazas in my park menu, but no sunken station (or 'bus stop'), neither in the rail or misctransportation menu. What could be the solution? (I am planning to put those lots around the Grand Central Terminal, as underground entrances and an easy way to make the station 'function', I don't tell the sims that the entrances ARE the station). -
I think this is a very useful lot! I was looking for a way to fund my custom airports, which are very expensive, and it looks like I found it here. Thanks! About repetition: just don't try to build entire forests with them, you can use other trees for that. Placing these lots within your neighbourhoods (like small greenbelts for instance) will make them blend in without any problem. The main purpose of this lot is to make money. The idea of the TREE HUGGERS INCENTIVE ACT and the green look are a way to make it nice and more subtle than other money makers, and usable in any kind of (non-desert) city. I think the amounts of money you earn per lot are well chosen.

The United Cities*4th Birthday and Retirement!*

.. it appears that they are called slip lanes, and that they were right under my nose in the NAM all the time. Just figuring out how to activate them now.... hang on... -
The United Cities*4th Birthday and Retirement!*
bdehnwehn replied to nathanthemayor's topic in SC4 City Journals
You put quite some effort in your road network! I do too of course, but without the RHW and sound protection walls. I am curious about the 'right turn lanes' in the 4th picture (of the 5. august post), I can't find them in the STEX, maybe because i don't know how it's called. -
