  1. SCS a Disappointment?

I haven't played this game yet (I don't think it is out for Mac yet though), so my input is pretty limited here. I've only seen a few of the screenshots. However, having been an avid SC fan for over a decade now, I'm disappointed that the game appears to have taken a wrong turn. With earlier versions of the game, it was obvious that technology restricted the possibilities for an extremely complex game. Nevertheless, I feel that Maxis generally took the game in a positive direction, making each successive version more realistic and inspiring than the last, all the while keeping the series' classic sense of humor and playfulness. Still, I think were some positive steps made. I am fascinated by the idea of having differing types of societies. This was an issue in SC4 and previous verisons, because the game assumed a pretty capitalist system. There was little option for a more authoritarian style of building, if one wished to build one. I also feel SC4 abandoned some key aspects of real cities that serve as a metric for a city's health, such as unemployment and other economic factors. I wished SC4 had something like a GDP, to sort of summarize the health of the city's economy. Of course, a GDP is probably more subjective than something as straight forward as unemployment, but still. Based on what others have said, my guess is I will simply continue playing SC4 and let EA think about this for awhile. It seems like EA has largely abandoned the wishes millions of SC fans. I realize the SC community is a diverse bunch, and it really shows in the city journals. There is a lot of fantasy and a lot of realism. But my guess is that the majority wanted the game to remain challenging, gritty, and all the more realistic. I'm not totally writing this SCS game off, but unlike when I was previewing SC4, I don't get the same excited vibe. Personally, I have built cities to make them realistic, not to replicate existing cities, but so I could imagine my own cities as having similar shades of issues and their own characteristics. I want to compare my cities with the likes of New York or Tokyo or Sydney, not a cartoon version. For now, I can only hope that there will be a SC5 that transcends SC4 and doesn't regress to a more cartoonish state.
  2. Climate mod 1 Winter fog

Good stuff! I second the idea of a seasonal terrain mod, if it's possible.
  3. Right click on the Mac??

Hold down the control key, then click the mouse.
  4. 10 Upper Bank Street Canary Wharf

Great looking building. Very bold. :)
  5. Manhattan Heights

I've always loved your BATs. I like these residential towers. Great work.
  6. Small Train Station

    Very handsome looking building.
  7. Copper Corp

Great job on this recreation! This is one of my favorite SC2000 buildings.
  8. UK High Street Shops Tonkso Set 1

Beautiful!! This will look good for a retail district.
  9. Sunny Office Complex

Interesting design. It's very good except for the part about it not having jobs! I'll give you the benefit of the doubt though, it's better than anything I could ever do.
  10. Corner Commercial complex

Eh, it's an interesting selection of buildings, but the inconsistent facades make it a little awkward looking. I really like the concept, though. Overall, it's decent, but I see some room for improvement. :)
  11. Awesome idea! This is exactly a big thing that they left out in Sim City 4 that should have been added. This kind of highway is far more common in real life than those ground highways with the annoying jersey barriers. This is definitely something you would see on any major US interstate. This rural highway could be useful for interstates.
  12. IBM Basingstoke

This is exactly the kind of mid-rise I've been needing for a while. The transition from medium to high density in the game is way to drastic and unfortunately doesn't have enough buildings of this height. Great job.
  13. Kings Reach Tower

Slick, slender, and not a CO$$$! Doesn't get much better.
  14. City Squad

So is this mostly about having a good layout? In other words, for an industrial wasteland, is it about making it look like an ideal wasteland or how to make a prosperous one? In other words, is this just about making example cities for players looking for variety?
  15. CityTravel Center

Very nice! I love how you did the windows.
  16. NAM: Requests

Hi, I don't believe this is anywhere on the list already. I've noticed that many ground highways in real life can overpass other principle roads, streets, etc. In other words, the ground highway will stay level at all times, but overpass a sunken throughway. I would think it would function like the on-slope puzzle pieces for roads and rails included in the new NAM.
  17. BSC Mac Archive

A huge thanks to the Mac BSC team for making it possible for us Mac users to enjoy the installation lots. I'm still running on Jaguar, so I won't be able to use that Juicer program. And upgrading the OS isn't my top priority right now. I did notice an older version of it that works for 10.2.8, apparently. We shall see.
  18. iTunes integration?

I don't know about Windows, but in Macs, you can run iTunes with SC4 playing without even having to hold down the alt/option key before load up. If you open iTunes and begin playing it, then go on to SC4 and turn off the in-game music, that also works. So, for Window users, they might be able to just do that.
  19. Catenary set

^They transfer electricity across rail lines Great idea. A small detail, but essential. Nice Job.
  20. Im talking to pegasus productions

Pegasus' site When you want to download something, it asks you to hit I agree to the terms. When you do, it's supposed to automatically download, but it takes you to a screen saying it's not allowed. What you have to do is press and hold the Control button while clicking on I agree and from the menu that shows up, click Download link to disk. It should work everytime...
  21. Real World Nuclear Power Plant Set

Great idea! Finally a power plant with enough power that is also at a reasonable and realistic price. I also take it that it produces little or no air pollution as well?
  22. Industrial Filler Lots

Ah! Great timing, because I just logged on here to look for some fencing and stuff for some industry. Neat idea. I like it.
  23. Lewis and Clark Expedition

Amazing! That sums this up. You really portay the American west with incredible detail. I love the trees!
  24. Sculpting Columbia River

I like the stream meandering through the farm land. I've tried making strip farming before and I have to say yours look good. The whole setting looks very peaceful and idyllic.
  25. Mac Update for Nightlighting Effects for BATs?

I said on an earlier thread that I sent an e-mail to Aspyr around fall last year, but they basically said they weren't going to do anything. I might e-mail them again just to add another perspective, so I'm glad we're seeing some progress (at least we can hope it's progress.)
