From SimCity4Devotion: "And to clear up these swirling rumors, they just so happen to be true. Yes, this means that NAM 35 has been released on the SC4D LEX, coinciding with the site's 10th anniversary celebration. Here's the feature list for NAM 35. New RealRailway (RRW) FlexTrack functionality, including draggable Fractional Angle Railroads (FARR) at three angles (FA-2, FA-3, and FA-1.33/1.5) and improved Single-Track Rail (STR) support. Vastly improved adjacency stability for ramp-style RealHighway (RHW) FLEX Height Transitions, including many adjacencies with FLEXRamps and Draggable Ramp Interfaces (DRIs). Several new draggable NWM transitions: NRD-4-to-ARD-3, NRD-4-to-Avenue, NRD-4-to-TLA-5, NRD-4-to-RD-4, Road-to-RD-4, TLA-3-to-Avenue, TLA-3-to-TLA-5, AVE-2-to-TLA-5, AVE-2-to-Avenue, TLA-7/AVE-6-to-Dual-OWR-3, OWR-4-to-RHW-8S, OWR-5-to-RHW-10S, and OWR-1-to-MIS. These transitions can either be built through the stub method, or (in case of different base networks), direct connection. At-grade intersection support for the Road, OWR, and Avenue Viaducts, plus other stability and cosmetic improvements. Multi-Radius Curve (MRC) functionality added to the L1 and L2 RHW-2. A number of path fixes involving elevated RHW networks. Support for at-grade RHW-4 x Avenue, RHW-3 x Avenue and MIS x Street intersections (OxO only), as well as improvements and additions to RHW-2 and MIS diagonal intersections with Maxis surface networks. Proper P57-era RHW support for Moonlinght's Alternate El-Rail and Bullet Train (Shinkansen) mods. Various fixes to the Maxis Highway Override (MHO), including improved RealRailway (RRW) support, support for moonlinght's Alternate El-Rail and Bullet Train, and Level Bridges for both L0 and L2 MHO networks. Re-implementation of some multi-tile RHW and NWM starter pieces, to improve stability in preparation for future additions. Legacy code has been added to provide stability to older, unconverted starters. A few other notes regarding the release: Platforms: At present, only the Windows release is available. A Mac release will be coming later. Installing over previous versions: NAM 35 should be installed directly over top of any previous NAM releases, to ensure that your previous installation options are retained. A clean install is not recommended. For more information, see here. Tech Support: Since NAM 35 is now the most recent release, technical support for NAM 34 and earlier is no longer available. Special Thanks: The NAM Team would like to extend its sincere thanks to all the members of the community for their continued support over the past 12 1/2 years the mod has existed, and to SC4 Devotion, which has graciously supported the NAM Team in its 10 years of operation as of this month. The new release can be acquired at the link below: NAM 35 (Windows) Download What's Next: We are already at work on new features for NAM 36 and beyond, which we plan to showcase as part of this OSITM. Stay tuned for more, and remember, we like to surprise people. -Tarkus and the NAM Team"

Yes! There is some progress again on Port de Caravella :-) On the edge of the old town we see some new development: various car dealers (like BMW and Mini) have found their way to the increasingly growing wealthy population of Port de Caravella. But, good news also for everyone who can't afford a new shiny car: from the new bus sation you can also find your way around town. Replies @Takingyouthere thanks! :-) @kschmidt the palms are created by c.p., i'm not sure about the exact file but you can find them here or here. @_Michael there can't be too many w2w european-like users :-) Hope you like this update as well. @v701 thanks! :-) @Scribosilyn i'll start on a airport soon so you can book a flight ... @feyss here is more! @raynev1 indeed @feyss his CJ is amazing, hopefully i can live up to that comparison ... As always, if you like it: let me know!

Again not much time, but maybe I can present some shots on what im working on atm, a set simular to brooklyn theme, were I can integrate all my euro buildings. This time it will be high residential. Starting from this, buildings will grow into big 5-6 story buildings. The Idea is, that every building with the exeption of 6stories can be used 2-3 times to maximise variety and provide hight differences. 1 Story: L1,L2 2 Story: L1,L2,L3 3 Story L2,L3,L4 4 Story L3,L4,L5 5 Story L4,L5 6 Story L5 Some have 512² textures, some 1024x512 but most have 512x256 ones, 7 buildings are finished so far.

Autum on Mians Island Today im showing you some pics from the uninhabited island called Mians Island. The island are deserted besides from some herds of sheep. It lays north west of the mainland. To come here you must take a few hours boat ride from Sunpoint. There's quite complicated to get there since there are no regular ferry lines to this location. The only structure on the island are a lighthouse and a small outpost for scientists. The lighthouse are in use and are automaticly driven. There are mostly shrubs and bushes on the island due to strong winds. But there are some trees on this island mostly pine, larch and poppel. At this time of the year the fog often sweeps in from the surrounding atlantic ocean. The science outpost showed +2 degrees celsius this morning. And with the moist in the air this is not the most delectable place to be right now. Hope you liked it For more precise location look on the map below.

Ahoooy ST! First of all I'd like to apologize for my English. I understand this language very well, but there might be few harmless mistakes in my writting Today I'd like to introduce my CJ called Principality of Jantra. We'll start with not big project called Jaruna Islands. This place is little bit inspired by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ertholmene. I'm going to divide this update on 2 parts, today I'm gonna show you general shots taken on spring time. 1. It's small archipelago. Actually there are two inhabited islands: Jaruna Island (bigger one) and smaller Dziewanna Island. 2. An entrance to the harbour: 3. The strait between the islands creates a perfect natural harbor: 4. There is small but charming town called Jaruna, only 100 inhabitants: 5. Main street: 6. 7. 9. A footbridge between Islands: 10. Short stone wharf on the Dziewanna Island: 11. A little bit of nature, there are a lot of lupins and other dwarf plants: 11. Rocky wharf: 12. A lighthouse on the top hill: 13. General overview: Cheers!

As with any task, there are a myriad of ways to accomplish things. But actually, saving a page can be fraught with problems and may not actually be readable when you come back to it later. If a page relies for example on CSS, Java or other web formats, perhaps linked objects are needed online to use your offline resource. That could include stuff that may change on the server side here that prevents it from working down the line. Making a PDF or HTML file doesn't have to be difficult. If you already have all the content, it can be copy/pasted, you might need to do a bit of re-formatting, but it would work. When I re-made the BAT Essentials tutorials, the reason I could was because I had converted them all to Word files. In this case it was a lot of work, but for your Shoppes it would be much simpler, because it's a simple list of text, images and links. Most modern software would keep everything like links even when copy/pasting from a browser. So it doesn't have to be a huge amount of effort. As a test, I just copy/pasted your Terrain Shoppe from Internet Explorer into Word 2003 (hardly modern). All the images came over, as did the links, which would represent less than a minute of work. Of course, spending ten minutes better-organising the formatting would be more ideal, but it doesn't have to be hard work. Word 2003 can even save as HTML, although it's not ideal. Later versions can save as PDF too.

WORK IN PROGRESS -- THE JADE BIGHT II - HOHENKIRCHEN: (Click to make bigger.) Yo, guys -- Working on my second city in the new region -- Hohenkirchen. Still trying to cut down on heavy forests and open up some cleared spaces on the map to increase the realism element. This one grew a bit bigger than expected -- 55k. And the city footprint is a bit larger than I wanted. The city of Hohenkirchen -- the main residential space for the next door LNG plant and industries in Schillig Roads. Overview of the city center and main commercial zones. An old bridge over a marshy inlet north of the city. (Getting in some "training" for future cities.) A detail of my first "serious" investment in the Quais De Seine embankments and the Pedmalls. I like the embankments -- even though they have a few optical glitches in them at certain zoom levels. But -- as someone previously mentioned -- the Pedmalls require waaaaaay too much clicking to get what you want.

I took time off from completing the Umbrella Pine to make some Fall trees (before winter). The 4 piece Sugar Maple Fall Set is now on the workshop. Included in this set is a green Summer version which can be used in all situations. Note also that I made Fall versions of the Oak Tree, Silver Birch and London Planetree. I am debating if I should release them as new or just add them to the existing Workshop items. I will keep you posted about that. They should be released very soon. It's addictive adding such color to the landscape. Have fun! Steam Link http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=793658461

In my imagination the industrial goods and such come from outside my region so all I need in any of the city tiles is farms, sims, and trading posts. Since I haven't looked for CC to actually represent buildings in the dark ages I still get good ol' Maxis stuff, but that's ok. Here's the tile I'm really happy with cause in my (sim)world the trees are basically sacred. (Primarily the dark green ones, but the others secondary.) ^ So down at the river I plopped a ferry and I pretend it's where outside goods come from. The main road up to the farms deliberately skirts around the sacred dark green trees and the farmers don't fell them either. I laid out the roads between the tiles first so I could reserve room as I expand. None of them actually connect to other tiles atm. I'm playing on the Hard Setting and I'm keeping the demand balanced without the extra influence of neighborhood connections. And here's how it looks so far: My cheat is one simple tweak to the Budget Exemplar I extracted from Simcity_1.dat. I made it so I get five times the income from Agricultural. This let's me afford fire stations to cover everything without going broke. I'll attach it in case anyone would want it. Or just use iLive's Reader and make your own. AgPay5x.dat

Here's my 2 cents: See real world cities and ask this questions: What kind of terrain do you have? Do you a see a theme created by the terrain? (Port Cities, Island Paradises, Rural Development, Big cities in the contryside). What terrain defines on the evolution of the city? How the urban area looks like? Little and Planned like Brasilia? In eternal expansion, like São Paulo? How the cities interacts with roads? What is the goal of them? When do you need a Expressway/Parkway/Highway? What you do when you plan the roads to grow? How zoning acts in a city? What happens when the CBD is far from the people? What happens if the CBD is surrounded by Residential environment? How About Industrial development? How about 2 CBDs Like Rio? If you don't even have a CBD? The city have a historical area? What kind of mass transit they use in each movement? What happens when you use a type of mass transit which has capacity bigger then the demand? and when the capacity is lower? Subway in a industrial area? How about LRT in CBD? Rails in suburbs? About suburbs, in your concept, have rich or poor people? How the major city interacts with minor cities? How the major city depends on the metro? The major city have industrial development? Or leave this paper to the other cities in the metro and keeps commercial? How industrial development helps in the other developments? The city metropolitan area have a countryside? Parks? Beaches? Anyway... Read this: https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=12096.0

Yeah, you got it right. Due to the type of game SC4 is, a significant number of people in the player base (talking about the regulars on sites like ST and SC4D) are very focused on aesthetics, with a smaller portion not even caring about the simulation aspect at all (**though the NAM is intended to look nice and work with/improve simulation). However, NRD-4 wasn't actually added for that particular reason. If memory serves me right NRD-4 was only included because of the Tram-on-Road network. That network basically looks just like NRD-4 but with GLR tracks on it. Prior to that, people weren't very decided on NRD-4 for a variety of reasons.

There's nothing like getting fully acquainted with the base Vanilla game (Rush Hour, that is) to make you fully appreciate the difference that mods make. Spent about 5 years playing the game Vanilla. Then discovered the NAM just after v30. Game changer, that. Still, making the Vanilla game work properly is no easy feat, and I would suggest that mastering it will allow you to accommodate for any curve balls that modding the game might throw at you. At the very least it forces you to think how the game requires you to, which is not only a feat in itself, but generally necessary to achieve the desired results once aesthetics become the most important aspect of your play, since the game often does not do what you want when you tell it to, and as has been demonstrated numerous times (not least with my recent experiences with FAPL that had been of course discovered by others), the game is surprisingly complex with a lot of moving parts, not all of which are important. Learning to filter the clutter is necessary, and this is easiest in the vanilla game. Like others have said, take it slow. My favorite speed is Rhino, since it runs fast enough to move the date, but not too fast that you can't enjoy the animation and correct the simulation before too much harm is done (if a problem arises). Cheetah is often too fast to correct if you're still learning and something goes wrong.

This is a DLL for SimCity 4 that adds a few more cheat codes beyond Buggi's Extra Cheats DLL. SievertBeGone — removes all radiation from a city, including from buildings that produce radiation when plopped (such as the advanced research center). Chernobyl — irradiates an entire city hazmat — creates a toxic spill disaster on whatever tile the mouse is pointed at UncivilDisobedience — creates a riot disaster on whatever tile the mouse is pointed at. The mouse must be pointed at a road, street or avenue tile. The development thread can be found at this link. Source code can be found here. Make sure to follow this file in case more cheats are added! Installation Move to your Plugins directory. On Windows and the Mac versions on disc and Steam, this is in Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins. On the Mac App Store version, this is in ~/Library/Containers/com.aspyr.simcity4.appstore/Data/Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins Create these directories if they do not exist yet. Mac users: you will need to install SC4MacInjector before using this plugin. You only need the .so file, not the .dll. Compatibility Tested and working on 1.1.641.0 (Steam/GOG/Origin) on Windows and the Steam version for Mac. Also works in combination with SC4Fix and the Extra Cheats DLL. Untested on other versions but should work with any version of SimCity 4 Deluxe or SimCity 4 w/ Rush Hour.

In my various Shoppes threads I've recommended for peeps to save a copy so they'd have them available if Photobucket ever borks my free account and the pictures go missing. I'd done that myself a few days ago. You know, File --> Save Page As ... --> (Type) Web Page, complete. I had this silly idea that saving the complete web page would be, well, COMPLETE. Like all the text and pictures. Turns out in Firefox that's not true unless one has this Add-On. And then one also reads this documentation. And then one adds a missing variable: Once I did that (and restarted Firefox) I then did complete saves of my map making and shoppes threads, copied the files to a flash drive, loaded them onto one of my SC4 game comps (which is not connected to anything else), and then I could view the threads completely offline with all the pictures. So, this is just a heads-up post for peeps who might believe they've made a complete copy using Firefox and really didn't get the whole thread saved in a useful way. And, it would be nice if the gurus with other browsers test if theirs can make a true, complete offline copy and let us know here. Edit: I'm adding CB's quote here since it's extremely relevant to my premise:

Yay! And for everyone else, I suggest doing a web page save. Like File --> Save Page As --> Web Page, Complete Apparently CorinaMarie was having problems saving her back-up files like this. I use Firefox as well but usually what I do is a bit more involved. I copy the "entire" file, pictures and all, copy to the Libre Office text file (I no longer use Microsoft Office), make sure everything is copied correctly and then save as a PDF file as it compresses the file size. I use a virtual printer to create the Adobe PDF and save to My Documents. I just tried this with the Rock Mod and it worked just fine (has 84 (gasp) pages for reference and 6.49 MB) Hope this helps if anyone wants to save to their PC.

As always, there are drawbacks and advantages to any way of doing something. Bear in mind Pedmalls are unique in that they are properly transit enabled. There is no way to have 20+ options without modifications inside the NAM, so it's not simply down to the reduction of menu clutter. Such variation would not have been possible any other way. The way they work is by something called T21s. It's possible to change them so that they don't change when buildings around them do. What causes this behaviour is that there are different pedmalls for different wealth/density zones. So it's actually these changing, like with the different wealth sidewalks that is behind it. But you could change that so that they were just random and not tied to wealth/density. But the easiest solution, wait until the right buildings have appeared, make those historical, only then, do the clicking. Much like you've already come up with. Some of the best designed mods take a lot of work to implement in-game, but ultimately this one is too good IMO to pass up.

Well as always it's horses for courses. If it works, there is no wrong way here. Using the tool you mention may bypass any issues. From my experience though, I've come to the conclusion that simply saving web pages isn't a great archive solution. But in terms of making them into a proper PDF/HTML files, perhaps I should clarify here, this would be something I would do to release them. Since once they are packed up you could either attach them to the post for download, upload them to the STEX. Or in the event the files were very large, link them to Google Drive/One Drive/Dropbox or an equivalent.

Yeah. I tried printing the page to PDF and I got 81 pages. The first page was kinda goofy, but readable. The next 80 were blank. I don't have any Word Files like you do for your tutorials. I just write it right in this little reply box. And for the css and whatever else, those don't seem to be a problem since I used that Add-On to FF. I was able to view the complete page on a totally isolated comp with no internet connection. It seemed like a good plan and I was going to update my threads with more details about saving the complete webpage, but since that's not a good solution for other peeps, I'll just leave them as they are. Anyone who wants an offline copy can use your c & p method. I imagine most peeps know more about this than I do.

An option is to copy and paste into a word processor, but some formatting can be lost, then saving as pdf or html. Printing in pdf is faster but even less elegant in terms of formatting.

I use Inkscape at least for quick projects. Illustrator is more professional with more tools but isn't free. For the metro, well I keep it simple here because well to be honest the system isn't actually finished. I am probably gonna realign lines a little so I don't want to call attention to it in the CJ proper, I've already had people spot tiny inconsistencies I am planning a bus/metro map using this map as its base, which will feature the metro itself - but I also feel different colours for the two metro lines here would be a bit too distracting and a bit too much information for what's supposed to be a quick glance look at the city's roads and general layout, not to mention if I begin to colour the lines I might as well place station names, which would definitely distract from the map's purpose. There will be more maps in my CJ, so that's allright
  34. 2 points
A good alternative from user-side is to print the page to a pdf or xps file. Almost any current OS can do that and require no effort from the creator, so is a good and fast alternative for tutorials done by inactive users. Of course that better results can be achieved with more sophisticated methods, but this one is a no brainier, 1 minute task.

Thing is, what's the point of adding the ST address via the use of a mod? I mean, you'd have to go to ST to download the mod to make it work. Considering this part is probably well buried in the .exe code, it's not like it would be a two minute fix either. Realistically, this isn't likely to happen.

Its interesting to read In point form how someone else goes about playing the game with their own interests. Gradually my own interest in landscaping and the natural environment has come to the forefront as we've discussed here and on my CJ your focus on agriculture. For anyone who also might want to try an agricultural SC4 gig, without the farming desirability mod agricultural demand will drop to 0 if not started at the beginning of the game, and it stays at 0 no matter what. As well, without the Farming Jobs Multiplier mod there are few jobs available on farms that can take up a lot of space. So, I posted a reply here rather than bumping my CJ which has already enjoyed its 15 minutes of fame worth. I'm going to work on a large tile with the mods installed and develop as high a population I can using as much area for agriculture as I can. I'll use the 50x multiplier and look for agricultural lots to add from the STEX. That will serve as my next CJ entry and hopefully an inspiration for you to start one as a lot of people would probably enjoy seeing your developed tiles. Both you and Cori gave some easy to read, friendly and personable replies for getting familiar with the basic play of the game. Its nice to know that there are actual people out there who play and enjoy the game in a variety of ways. The game is more 'current' in today's gaming culture than even the most recent version of SC (2013). I like especially your mention of the ' inner artisan'. I doubt there's any such thing as a human without an inner artisan somewhere buried under all the stress and anxiety of life in this world. And what a better world it would be if everybody discovered their 'inner artisan'. We could all play SC4 and share these points of view and figure out how to deal with industrial, civil and environmental issues in RL. Back to the game... You mentioned the parks, I would only add that even the grass area park and the small plaza can make a lot of difference in growth and stability of residential and commerce. As well these can determine the growth and stability of high-tech industrial.

This could well be material for sociologic research, seeing how a community erodes the limit between game user and developer. Simmaster is, without doubt, one of the few spearheads at the vanguard, pushing out the limits of what the community can do. 11 stars of 5, you know you deserve it.

Without your support, we just would not be in our 24th year online!  You really help make this a great community. *:thumb:

But we still need your support to stay online. If you're able to, please consider a donation to help us stay up and running. This helps sustain a platform where we can share our community creations for years to come.

STEX Collections

By way of a "Thank You" gift, we'd like to send you our STEX Collector's DVD. It's some of the best buildings, lots, maps and mods collected for you over the years. Check out the STEX Collections for more info.

Each donation helps keep Simtropolis online, open and free!

Thank you for reading and enjoy the site!
