7 pointsI'm currently working on a classic of Sc4: Ofcourse the Sc4 version is out of proportion and they took some liberties in their design so I also looked at the Original building: Currently doing the corner building, than might do 1 or 2 rowbuildings, there's only a few pictures so I had to take some liberties. Currently sitting at 4500 polys. One side done, need to do a bit of detailing at the other. Opinions on the roof terrace are welcome.

3 pointstariely Thank the post-apocalyptic world for that scene idea Hopefully this update'll quench your curiosity! michael95l Ain't it just awesome? ____________________________________________________________ So here's the full update! Got lazy, so no usual mosaics this time Anedau. A mesmerizing city, full of hope, dreams and the progression of humanity. Despite the cataclysmic demise of global civlization, pockets of human existence remain on the planet. But the uncertainty of their fates reserve their existences to mere legends and myths, from a world long gone. This city may be all that remains of the glory of human intellect and technological achievement. Reminders everywhere of what the world and civilization had been reduced to. Some might even say that Anedau's golden-age may all be but a facade in a looming disaster out in the cold reaches of time. But regardless, the city remains a shining symbol of eminent peace and beauty. A wonderous synthesis of history and modern technology. Remnants of the gleaming image the 21st century world provided. It is even fortunate that those who founded this last bastion, could even afford and have the ability to rise a dormant ruin from the ground. May be there is hope. Real hope. May be the so called "lie" isn't a lie at all. But the truth remains. As the night falls, the activity dies down. The lights begin to pollute the skies. All that remains of the lights that once bore through darkness of the planet. But what we do know is, this is the Last City; and we must defend it to the utmost, regardless of circumstance. And that's it! Visit again when Random & Random has more random for you!

3 pointsSocially Awkward Yes, there's always something which doesn't fit in... Let's see who, or what, is socially awkward here in the suburbs surrounding the capital today... Looks like a pleasant suburban apartment here... but, here's the sad truth: NO ONE in this building plays SimCity!! AWKWARD!!!! These upscale condos look ok on the outside... ...but the truth is most of the residents here have not downloaded their dependencies! AWKWARD!!! A quiet leafy suburb... but, the ugly truth shall be revealed! The police and fire and ambulance will not come here at all... no matter what. Why? It is just outside the service area circles each draws around their stations. House on fire with crooks inside? No help for you!!! You wanna talk socially awkward? No one wants to go over to JD's house... he has the PROP POX!!!! If you want to cross this street, blue jays will swoop down and peck you on the head. Out shopping? Bring a hat... or, a helmet. How's this for awkward? In all of the offices with slanty walls, the occupants all walk diagonally to compensate... I can't tell you how many fights have broken out right here... they always start the same way: "Where do you wanna eat?" "I don't know. What do you want?" "What are you in the mood for?" "I don't know. Anything." "How about that one?" "No, I don't like that one." "Just pick..." "You pick..." And then it's go time! That awkward moment when the office party fires up the karaoke machine... How about the awkward moment when you get to the gas station and realize the gas tank hatch is on the other side? And then you drive back around and it's STILL on the other side??!! And finally (thankfully), how about that awkward moment when you work at Arby's but don't pay attention to where you are walking and end up next door working at Sonic? Oops!

3 pointsThanks. I think this one turned out rather well; I don't have an available snap of it with the remaining detail and roof access, but it finally ended up being pretty good. Here's an earlier one started that's a little bit further along; it ended up resembling a façade in my swipe file, so I worked up some details inspired by that pic. I wish I hadn't done an "inset" front on the model, as it would probably be better as just a rectangle, but it was too far along to change. Ah well, I think it will be okay... Needs some final modeling details, like side doors and front lobby windows, but I couldn't help doing the roof. Sometimes these BATs are dead and lifeless until I start in on the roof detailing and texturing, and that can really breathe some life into the rest of the process. When I used to do costume sketches, I would always have to start with painting in the face and flesh tones, because the sketch wouldn't have any spark until I did that...so I just started doing it in the beginning...

Catalan flag, estelada style. This file contains 2 Catalan flags lots. 1x1 in plaza 1x1 in park All located in Park Menu No dependencies. The flag dates from the early 20th century; It was most probably designed in 1918 by Vicenç Albert Ballester Camps. It came from combining the traditional four red stripes over a gold field of the Senyera with a blue triangle at the hoist containing a five-pointed white star, inspired by the flags of Cuba and Puerto Rico. The blue triangle signifies the blue sky of humanity and the white star symbolize freedom. -

2 pointsThanks mate! The power lines/cables that loop up from the substations and connect to the SC4 powerlines are just some very simple BATs I made many years ago. It's kinda of funny though how something so simple can make a big difference appearance wise. Thanks for the regards! I'm glad that I can inspire even experienced players such as yourself. As for the pylons there's just a little trick to do it; Start off by placing two plyons next to each other; Then place a straight row of 1x1 park lots next to either one of the pylons. The row of lots can be as long as you want. You can make it stretch the entire length of a large sized city if you wanted, as long as the are no spaces in between . Next connect the first two pylons again and then drag the pylon to the other side of the park lots; The wires will automatically crossover over the lots. Also it doesn't have to be park lots nor does it have to be 1x1 lots. The only type of lot that the pylons will not cross over is airport lots. Now bulldoze the park lots and vola! You can plop any kind of zone in between and the wires will remain in place, even RCI zoning. Appreciate the comments and hope to see your future work with power infrastructure on this thread. Thanks again to all for the feedback

2 pointsI, too, had not seen the steamboats until I plopped the Air Force Base in a bay. Nuking the base stopped the onslaught, although it's possible other lots use the same effect, for the lulz. So it could be a worst case scenario in which the entire city gets to be destroyed one piece at a time until the haunting stops. But we'll try to keep it from getting to that point. The Reader. Install it, and open up the Air Force Base plugin with it. Click the "Fill The List" button, and you'll see a list o' items on the left. Among them, you'll see an "Instance" column. Click it once to organize everything in alphanumerical order, and go and find instance 2AEE0FB3. Right click on it, select "remove" and confirm. Save the file and you're done. The binary method, developed by Nonny and approved by the Canadian Council of Overlord Mooses, is a patent pending way to find issues with your plugins.

2 pointsForgot to reply to this earlier. I do plan to make more sets of trailers at some point, and those 2 RL companies at the bottom would be no sweat. I'd never known what Wacky Packages were till I looked them up (I'd hear of them though), and those would be pretty fun trucks to make. I'll probably do that! --- So I altered the DHL texture slightly. The south render (where the front is facing the camera) still hits me as a tad bright, but I tried going darker and with less saturation and at that point the paint started to look dingy. I suppose it's fine if it's bright at that one angle since it's basically facing directly into the light source due to the angle on the front of the van. Other than that, I made a few other texture variants for the vans. I might make one or two more and call it finished. It'll be a somewhat small set. Later on I might revisit the Sprinter for other uses, seeing as it is popular as a bus, flatbed, pickup, police, and utility vehicle. Since all of those would require fairly major modifications to the model and are really quite different vehicles overall, I decided to split the them up (much like I split the semi truck box trailers from the flatbed ones). I may also fire up 3DSmax in the next few days and play around with some textures (which is honestly the main reason I half-gave up on it... that texturing system is complex ). If I am happy with the results, maybe I'll make a post about it. Now I just need to go read Jasoncw's thread for all dem tutorials on reflections and plants and sunken BATs and such...

1 pointTWrecks - yeah, something has been bugging me about this BAT. After reading your post, I thought to give it a try and see what it might look like as one of those C-shaped floorplans. (There's an architectural term for it, I am sure, but I couldn't figure out what it might be.) So I took the model and pushed the front inset pieces in exactly three meters, and added some narrow windows along the newly formed inset "sides." The result is not too shabby, and looks more deliberate and believable... I like both variations, but I'm leaning towards this newer one. Though if I do go with it, I think I need to extend the length between the ground floor lobby level and the floor above it; in effect, giving it a taller mezzanine style height. Right now it looks a bit squat and squished.

1 pointAs far as the keyboard shortcuts, while we can edit the Keycfg file, unfortunately, the results of those changes have no tangible results in game, so there is likely some hardcoded barrier involved there. We are actually going to be doing some changes with the texture side of things for the full NAM 33 release, but they all have to do with the alternate RHW sets. MandelSoft's RHW sets (including the Euro, Ontario, and Irish/South African sets) don't fit the new RHW standards with respect to overhangs, and also don't cover anything that's been added since NAM 32 (dozens of ramp interfaces), so we're going to be shelving them for the time being. There will be a new Euro set, produced through semi-automated means from the existing default North American RHW texture set that will be included in NAM 33, and that production method will allow us to generate Euro RHW textures very easily for any new features going forward. I think the massive file size increase may make the case for going to a model-based system stronger, especially as it removes the need to have two different color correction specs, but that's probably something that wouldn't be implemented until NAM 35. NAM 34 development is actually underway already, in the early stages, and we're really aiming for a short turnaround on it, as another 18+-month development cycle might well be the end of us. -Tarkus

1 pointGlass-tastic! Very cool use of buildings mixed in with that road network. I'm a big fan of using that tower along with the rounded facades. Very good!!!
-
1 pointthank you I enjoyed seeing these old BATs in use and still like them better than the cartoonish buildings of newer city games
-
1 pointThe air force base isn't lurking, it's in the SC DAT files inside your install directory. Honestly if that is a problem, it's almost certain a conflicting mod that brings it about and not a fault with the Maxis lot itself. Datanode would pinpoint the faulty file in such an instance pretty easily.
-
1 pointWell the NAM can cause you problems, but not in the sense that it's modded badly in any way, simply that the controller size (for a full install) is ever-increasing as is the size of the NAM as a whole. Without sufficient resources it's totally possible for such a NAM upgrade to cause you problems you never had before. I would note though that 31.2 in theory would be way worse than 32 onwards for anyone who uses less than the full NAM install. That's because the custom controllers were introduced with NAM 32, prior to that it was all or nothing for everyone, so you always got the full controller package. A lot of efficiency can be had for those using lighter NAM installs thanks to the custom controller compiler.

1 pointThe suburbs didn't come about solely for the automobile. Actually railroads were responsible for the earliest of suburbs. The coming of the railroad allowed people fed up with crowded cities to relocate and settle in less cramped settings. Many street car and garden "cities" existed at the turn of the 19th century because of that fact. It wasn't until after WWII that the modern car-centric suburb came about.
-
1 pointHaha I remember making Automata with some of these companies! Amazing work in here!

1 point@clif9710: The problem with mansions and R§§§ in general is often that they come too easily. The desirability requirements are very low, so they often settle in areas that are not suitable for them, and sometimes there are just not enough jobs for wealthy Sims, so the houses would get abandoned even if its inhabitants could teleport to any spot on the map in no time. IIRC, a user called Bones1 has written a mod called "Less abandonment mod" that should alleviate the problem somewhat. I also like to raise taxes for R§§§ by a few digits to keep R§§§ demand low until I have a very far developed city with abundant CO and I-HT jobs so that I'm confident my city will be able to sustain those R§§§ buildings.

1 pointI have that, but I don't think I've seen one grow, nor do I remember the building in any props I've played with on lot Editor. It grows, I've seen it in one of my cities... Very rare though... It grows on a 4x4 or a 5x4 lot at Stage 3. Kind regards!
-
1 pointOnly slight problem with this approach is that each one is a junction and therefore has a small cost in terms of commute time to go through. This could cause problems on long stretches of avenue, you'd be better off using the TLA-5 from the NWM (Network Widening Mod) in such cases.
-
1 pointFirst: Downloading lots of stuff at once makes it really hard to figure out what's causing the problem. Second: The Air Force Base generates steam boats. I am not sure, and I have not tried it myself, but you may be able to disable this if you delete the prop the effect is seemingly attached to. This prop is instance 2AEE0FB3, and ILive's Reader allows you to do the work. Paddle steamers are a fascinating look into the past, and it makes one wonder what Maxis was aiming for when they (kind of) introduced them into the game.
-
1 pointCommute time: Long is ok as long there is a neighbor city accepting them for work. If you don't have neighbor city accepting them Long could be a problem. Me my sims have no problem with Long cause almost Everyone in my farming city of haz has low education only no high schools, university and collage leaving it with need for bosses of farms I-Ag$$$ so now my main city New Haven provides that and commute time: long is not a problem for my sims. Bus stations not that good if you have large cities subway is better in reducing traffic and pedestrians. bus station only adds to traffic problem of large cities especially hilly cities which can't support avenues.

1 pointIn regard to the base, as I mentioned on SC4D I think the original proposal you had looked good but would have benefited from the inclusion of reflecting pool or water cascades. That would allow for a generous open area and stepped access but reduced the dominance of the hard paved surface. The bare walls of the raised podium could perhaps be made into 'living walls' incorporating planting, that would reduce the starkness of a blank wall at street level. Please forgive this incredibly crude and rushed image, but it gives an idea at the very least. If I had more time I'm make something that looked vastly better.
-
1 pointOh you.. you and I are gonna have some problems.. you show up, you throw some perfection to our faces, and then run away? that's evil.
-
1 pointThanks a lot for your warm comments. I exported the tower to have an idea in game. First export, I did not scale up the model in z axis, but scaled down x and y to 85% Second export, I scaled up nly z axis by 115% Regarding the base, I am totally lost. I don t like to much the idea of reproducing the podium as it will not inetragte well in sc4 environment. An alternative could be a sunken plaza like CB21 tower, however it will not reflect reality what I try to avoid at maximum...

1 pointYou can choose to stop an update from reappearing by right clicking it and selecting "hide update". The problem is that Microsoft sometimes decide to offer it again, even though you've told it to stop doing so. For example this is most commonly done with applications like Skype and Silverlight (a product even MS have said should not be used anymore) and other MS software that at one point or another was on their agenda to install everywhere. They like to pretend it's a bug, but it's really not, it's frankly a disgusting abuse of power. Personally, I'm not sure I could recommend to regular users not to install Windows updates, despite my feelings there could indeed be a security risk at the heart of this. However, over on SC4D Vortext posted some information that can be used to only disable whilst your game is running, in this case SC4, but it could be applied to other affected titles also. To be on the safe side, disconnect from the internet before play. Myself, I just won't install the update and will face the consequences, but then I know how to recover my system from any nasty's that may appear on it without too much fuss.
-
1 pointLooks great! T21s sound interesting... I've always found it tough to get a cohesive one going since many of them only work for certain networks (and many have no support for the NWM, which I use a lot)... and it sounds like you could be solving that issue with this T21 mod. I'd certainly be interested in progress pics.
-
1 pointApologize (again, it seems) for the lack of updates, but right now I've got one more about done. Final modding needs to be completed, so CVS may be STEX bound by this weekend? CVS Pharmacy ----------------------------------------------------------------------- It seems that after this, I only have a few b62 lots left I will upload (not including a large upload of "discarded" b62 buildings & lots). While they may not be up to my standards for SC4 buildings, others may like them; I would feel bad holding them back if others may want them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Officially, I will taking a break from lotting (kinda). My current project is very extensive: I am basically making own custom T21 mod for streets, roads, & avenues by combining Neko's Japanese Sidewalk Mod with others I love for NWM networks & avenues. If that sounds confusing, that is because I am confused too. I've learned a lot about T21 mods and am basically mashing a whole bunch together so they are all compatible. I will definitely post progress pics if some of yall are interested. Until then, cheers...

1 pointYeah, I do hate doing my texturing work on a laptop computer. I am so used to old school, CRT monitors with desktops, that when I do any substantial texturing on a laptop, it skews my perspective on color and texture. Sadly my desktop gave up the ghost some time ago, so I only have the old laptop at work and the new stupid lousy one at home. Though usually basing my textures off original ones from a while back has helped a bit.... I couldn't see the white for what it was, so I did tweak it to a light gray - the tendency for gmax to really blast out and brighten surfaces that are completely flat is really pronounced in this BAT. I'm always marveling at how dark some of my rooftop textures look in Photoshop, and then they look perfectly fine in the preview renders in gmax. At any rate, here's another BAT that went lightning fast the first two hours...and then slowed to a glacial crawl afterwards. This particular baby has been difficult in the birthing...it still needs roof access details and I haven't even done the back wall and windows and details yet (not pictured)...

1 pointThanks for the comments! So Labor Day was obviously intended for modeling trucks, right?... Here's that Ford 9000 (I used a 1980's - early 1990's model): --- Aaaand I finished all of the base models for the dump truck series: (click for full size) Just add the T800W and the 359 from page 3 of my thread and that's the set! All of them will have a color variation or two and all of them except the end dump trailer w/o a cab will also have a loaded variant with dirt and one with gravel (people don't usually load them if they don't have a cab!). All in all it'll be a very large set (almost as big as the 53ft truck set), but it won't be as bad as the other sets because these props are a good bit smaller so they'll render much faster. The painfully long render times were why the 53ft set took forever to finish!

1 pointYeah, I kind of hated the rooftop lounge area. I wanted to do tables and chairs, but it didn't seem to click. And there wasn't enough hedge and shrubbery details; I had to duplicate them and move them around a lot in order for them to even read. Lots of tweaking and messing around with this small footprint, but overall it makes a big impression... the devil is in the details... plus you read my mind, as I had been leaning towards putting a trashcan up there by the doorway access... The great difficulty is not loading in too many details - and then it becomes clutter, or so specific that when more than one grows in the city, they all stick out like a sore thumb.
-
1 pointLove it. This type of building can be found in downtown's all across the US, but it will still add a bit of character and history to our sim city's. The only change I would make would be to remove the table and chairs and replace them with a few generic benches and maybe some garbage cans/Ashtray's. Maybe even a potted plant or two. I imagine this is the smokers break spot. EDIT: sorry, looks like you got the shrubbery covered... I was viewing it on my phone
-
1 pointAs I stated before multiple times....just because you play CSL does not mean you can't play SC4 anymore. I still have my SC4 installed though I haven't played it in a while. There's no need to bash either game to make a decision to buy CSL. If you're curious just get it and check it out. But if you already have your mind made up that CSL sucks, then this is not a discussion and you should just skip it and move on because this will just be a SC4 fan vs CSL fan never ending argument. They're both great games. Ln X Nice shots BTW.
