Meanwhile, thanks everyone else! I'll work on it more when I have more time to deal with the increasingly laggy model file (and time to craft the basejump portion of the tower )

 

 

Hmmm....Y'know how I said I'd tackle national flags first, rather than historical ones? I think I might render some historically significant flags in one bulk pack for fun (LOL).

 

So far, I'm thinking of

 

- American Civil War

- World War II Axis and Allied Flags (Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, Soviet Russia mostly)

Lol, yeah Don't get me wrong though, I wouldn't mind rendering some -- but time and motivation is getting harder to come by these days

 

So. The day render's complete. Now onto the night; but by the looks of it, since I'm limiting my night variation to 8 different night lighting schemes, I'll still have about 16 renders of night overall. If I get lazy, unfortunately, maxis-nite will renders will suffer and might lose out on night scheme variations

 

But in the mean time, here's a fun little comparison between the old and the new

About the flags, I think the Thirteen Colonies flag would be cool.

The new Auckland Sky Tower is absolutely wonderful.  However, it seems too gray, particularly the concrete shaft, as if Dystopian Auckland is permanently in total overcast and hazy, or even in the shade of the mothership overhead.



I know it is not actually white, real-life camera photos can be all over the lighting map, and the older version is definitely too white, especially on the metal materials, but I can't help but think that the new coloring should suggest within the SimCity palette the lightness of the above or maybe this, this, this, or even this (semi-overcast) as if the tower and Auckland were still more in South Pacific daylight.

I really love this thing!

 

I think you've done a fantastic job on the whole tower. There are a few minor things I'd consider taking a look at regarding the textures, though:

A: I know you're not doing an exact recreation, but this area looks like it's missing something. The texture that is there right now is a bit flat and homogeneous looking. The apparent cleanliness of this spot creates a bright spot that draws the eye toward it. Adding a few score lines or a little more color could make a big difference here as far as preventing it from being so noticeable. 

B: This texture looks somewhat stretched and a little too sterile. It might just be my eyes, but the concrete texture in this area looks much softer (a little more blurry) than the concrete around it. 

C: This part is just fine seeing as its color is somewhat darker than its surroundings (better contrast than in area A), but again, it may benefit from a few radial score lines (sort of like spokes) as seen below. This one is really just a matter of personal preference, though, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Each of these should be pretty small fixes should you hope to address them. Hope this helps

I'm totally jealous with how you can get all those minor little details to show up so well in game. Great job on the textures too, don't think there's anything left to do to improve on it.

Trying to move forward as much as possible, but I'm feeling quite demotivated for SC4 and BATing lately. We'll see how this goes. I've also limited the lighting variety to 5 options. I feel like doing 8 seems a bit long for me, so the choices will be narrower than anticipated.

Hope you guys like it though. Now I just have to tediously change the colors of each of the lights. If you're concerned about the number of lights around the building, they've also been limited to prevent severe lag in the model

I think it may look odd because it's not obvious where much of the light actually comes from. In some cases, we see the spotlights shining upwards, and in other cases we can at least imagine that there are spotlights pointing downwards that are hidden from view. However, for some part of the illumination (mainly at the middle tower section and near the tip) there is no obvious light source.
