... in full view of a major police station, no less.  

I guess they really needed that U-turn?  Desperate traffic = desperate measures.

This is exactly why double-decker anything has to be limited to different modes or different directions.

I thought about posting this in the Show Us Your Mayoral Failures thread, but alas it seems such a Showcase topic doesn't exist.

Anyhow, take a gander at this:

Blame the new avenue which suddenly appeared out of nowhere. The construction crew apparently decided the bus stop was a little in their way, so some wise guy had the idea to lower down the bus stop so it'd no longer be an obstacle. But it seems they didn't realise the purpose of a bus stop isn't to stop the bus.

Also it begs the question, what happens when the rainy season arrives?

The great bus accident of August 133, just outside Plumb Beach ferry terminal, will be remembered for many years in Jamaica Bay.  

Some of our sims are blaming it on the new FLUPs tunnel under the highway, but how could a tunnel cause an accident on the highway above it?  There has been a suspicious number of accidents in this locality of late, so it bears watching.

Well, the rail split is simple. The upper line is the local train and the lower line is the express train, which avoids the local stop.

We have a similar split in Queens, where the express E and F trains take the short route to Broadway, while the local M and R trains go up Northern Boulevard for two stops (36th Street and Steinway Street) and onto Broadway for three stops (46th Street, Northern Boulevard, and 65th Street), before reuniting with the express trains at Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue, which is the transfer point to the 7 Train, which goes to Citifield (home of the Mets), the US Open (workplace of Serena Williams, WOWF!), and Flushing (a great name for New York or anywhere). By cutting the corner of the triangle, the E and F trains save a few minutes on their express service.

This is all part of the Independent Queensboro line, which was built in the 1930s, to run all the way from midtown Manhattan at high speed to the new Queens neighborhoods like Newtown, Forest Hills, Rego Park, Kew Gardens, Briarwood, and Jamaica, which were being developed at the time. They promptly filled up with Machine-Age and Art-Deco apartment buildings and faux Tudor one-family homes. The only problem with both is that they lacked air-conditioning. Whoops.
