There used to be unofficial or semi-official talks to make the SimCityCN contents available on western exchanges when @Raymond7cn was still active. There wasn't any kind of agreement, but based on that due to their hard situation regarding visiting and downloading files from western sites, the former members and moderators over there simply rehosted a bunch of contents that used to be available on SC4Devotion LEX, the idea was that STEX could be a home of rehosting contents from the SimCity CN. These talks happened like 4-5 years ago, but there haven't been any move since then, mostly because Raymond went MIA, and myself had already enough restoration and file rehosting projects to deal with it.

General idea is, that based on that we, from western countries, can not really reach their site to get any registration, (only chance when some of us already had an account there, before they introduced the new registration rules), the sitation is pretty much the same as they had with the LEX/BSC contents and the solution would be similar too. There was kind of one or two strict rule; the creadit needed to be given to the original creator at every time and the description needed to mention that the original hosting place is the SimCity China site. But as I said there was not any kind of official decision, but that time this was the general idea and opinion among those who were involved.

Those terms are basically impossible, I assume, for anyone to register.  And I'm sure they have some nice stuff too, given what I've seen already.  It's a shame.  I was wondering if the STEX would also archive some of the items found on the various "naver.com" and Japanese Simcity4 websites, as those have been recently requested a lot too.

Possible. But it is extremely difficult. Especially SimCity China is now restricting visiting traffic even to existing user members which makes downloading files from there extremely slow.

So, It is a hard situation for them.

I am trying to make a realistic river with MMPs. It's early days, just experimenting with the different waters so far, have not added any MMPs beside sketching out the course of the river.

The hardest part was always going to be the transition from the plop water to the game water, so I decided to start with that. I decided to use the RFR plopwater pack for the river, firstly as it looks more similar in a picture to the game water that I have (which is the brigantine flavour) than some other plop water options. The second reason is that it looks like it is flowing a bit more than the JRJ plop water, which will probably possibly be used to make a nice lake later on.

I have tried to use the excellent (but difficult to use) JRP pieces to make this all important transition from plop to game water.

5.jpeg.9adab8ac114ac6881e0e569b358e8837.jpeg

These things are so strange, and really need some playing about with the terrain height to get them to work in the landscape. placing them Too High (which is actually the intended height of the author of the mod) and the transition between the lot and the game water looks obvious and basically horrendous, the green 'river banks' are also very hard to blend in with the landscape. Here I have placed them Too Low and the terrain is clipping through them in places. This will need to be disguised later on.

These JRP pieces also have really odd shadow effects which will again will need to be disguised with other MMPs later on, but I think I've sort of gotten away with the transition from this angle. Does anyone know if selectively removing shadows from a lot like this is possible?

6wip.jpeg.46b0645dea0eac93dc23e9c7fbf8031c.jpeg

The back side, not so much! - I've placed a couple of the Mas'71 suburban canal pieces next to the river gate transition, but the transition from that to my plop water is going to take some real thought. If you guys have any suggestions for the tiles within the red boxes, please do suggest!

These transitions are something I also struggle with so I'm following your experiments with great interest! Usually I end up trying to disguise areas like this with MMP's (water plants) or put in a bridge of some sort. The former works with calm water, but can seem somewhat unrealistic with the flowing water effect you're going for here. The alternative is obscuring things with larger trees on the edges, but that also has its disadvantages...

Good to see you back! Unfortunately, I cannot help you with the shadows issue, but I've written a special entry in my CJ Maxiland about the topic of transitions between MMP and in-game water. It's not a perfect solution, either, but it seems that this is nigh impossible, anyway.

For your 2nd suggestion, I'd suggest using the Wildbach (wild creek) piece from the RFR water MMP set, it's smaller and will fit in better; besides, it's imo a good thing in between making it look nice and making it look realistic.

Oh-Dam.jpg

The Tahoe water actually looks really nice! I cant remember why i discarded the idea of that one, as i'm sure i've used it before.

The JRP lots are absolutely designed to do something different from what i am asking of them! I think ultimately, one just has to live with the shadow issue!

I've been messing about with the suburban canal pieces in the LE to try to fashion some kind of low-tech transition between the RFR water and the canal lot. I think i'm getting somewhere. As @11241036 mentioned above, selecting a different water MMP has made a difference. The 'smallest water tile' is actually a really nice one, as it can be plopped almost anywhere.

Hopefully i can show a picture of any progress soon :ohyes:

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

In my game the shadows still show on my lot, but i think this is because the lot i am using (watergate narrow and watergate wide) is different from the dam lot that you showed and created the override for, and takes props from a different file.

I had a look at all the values in PIM X for all the different prop files in this pack and I can see the 'true' in isgroundmodel for all of them.

Is PIM X the best tool for me to try to amend this value? And if so where do i 'drag' the file to in PIM x to allow me to make an override file for the other props, as you have done?

Thanks as ever!

That's a shame, I didn't realise there were still quality BATs out there that were unreachable. Some of those buildings are very nice and useful.

I used Reader to edit them, PIM-X can view but not edit a lot of data, but it may help determine in which exact file the Props you need reside. Open that file in Reader, click on the Analyser button (which conveniently filters out all the Exemplars in the file), then just edit the values (from 1/True to 0/False). If you aren't planning on releasing your edits, it's probably better just to update the original files directly instead of worry about making a patch. I only did that to avoid having to re-distribute the models in the file, but for personal use that's actually a bit clunky.
