Well, it depends on what infrastructure is on the area, and what that infrastructure serves. Generally speaking, industry follows railways, highways and ports, low income housing follows industry, high income housing escapes from low income housing and industry, and commerce follows the traffic of high income industry.

Well, if the only access will be from the already built part of the centre, I would expect a less dense development, with more residentials and less offices, maybe capitalising on the waterfront and the closeness to workplaces. For the same reason, maybe the middle blocks would be more depressed, with small business and less luxurious residences.

Also, those canals or rivers look navigable by ferry, so maybe you can compensate for the relative disconnection of the south side with a ferry terminal...

So you're saying like small apartment blocks?

on the borders, big towers, condo type, getting unobstructed views to the waterfront, plus some hotels; on the centre, old W2W apartment blocks and similar commerce. And to play with the gradient between them both.

Do you have any links to buildings I can use?

@Diego Del Llano has done some nice residential towers, both replicas from Puerto Vallarta and his own creations. Check them on his profile.

For the less glamourous buildings, I think it depends on the city style, but maybe some residentials by @Aaron Graham could be the right option, even if they are New York replicas...

Also, thinking mainly in San Francisco as a referent, you can add some townhouses to reflect non-remodelated areas of the city centre. As the style is generally shared all around the ports of the Pacific Ocean, the australian ones by @mattb325 will go nicely, but there are others out there on the STEX.

well decided to play the regular version of the game...

I call this city Frog City because the lake looks like a frog to me...

The circle drives did not come out like i wanted but they seem to work fine.

You used a one way road ? Roundabout with single road doesn´t connect either properly

Curve normaly occurs if you touch the center with the road tool; small roundabout has maximum four roads, for normal bigroundabout there might be a patch !

In celebration of cracking 1,000,000 population for the region I though I would post the middle of the area.

Hopefully the 1,000,000 doesn't take as long.

Love to see some more detailed views, well done !

@EvansRE4; Your downtown looks packed and filled with all types of buildings,  looks stellar and I'm keen to see how you're going to fill the rest of the city!

Started experimenting with growable diagonal buildings to add variety. From the looks I need to place some parks and parking lots to fill the empty spots, but so far everything is going to plan.

Like aswell to experiment some more with modern non w2w european diagonal set, well done !

Almost finished with downtown Beacon Hills...

Once I finish downtown I'll work on the outlying areas.

Very nice city development ! Make better views use miniize button remover. This will hide the GUI bar completly. Restore with Numlock key to continue play !

Well done !

Hi Mary,

The NAM avenue roundabouts are really only designed to be connected to with other avenues. For road connections (single-tile networks; OWR is also in this boat), you should use either the road roundabouts (max 4 connections, at each corner, drag the road out in a 2x2 square), or the OWR roundabout (drag in the correct direction--counter clockwise if your Sims drive on the right--in a 3x3 square with a hollow middle; max 5 connections, and with the OWR roundabout you can plop a road tile in the middle to autoplace a fountain if you don't have something else you'd like there).

As for the Avenue roundabout, I think the only place that single tile connections are supported are orthogonal connections made at the "corners" of the roundabout (where you might otherwise lead off a diagonal avenue connection). There are turbo roundabout puzzle pieces also available in the road menus, primarily for NWM networks (max 4 connections), but those are a little bit more specialized in application.

As a final option, the NAM supports a truncated transition, where you can lead off the roundabout with a one-tile avenue stub, and then drag a road into the end of it; a shortened version of the road-avenue transition will show up, preserving the roundabout's shape (no deconverting) and also eliminating the need for an avenue network where you otherwise wouldn't need one. Haljackey, IIRC, does this a lot with his roundabouts.

@Dreadnought - Good work! But only one - why were the trees on the embankment wall ?

Would those be the "vines" ?

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

@MissVanleider

That's looking great! I love the farms and small 'villages' and that town at the bottom looks very nice indeed!

I do think that diamond interchange over in the west could be shrunk a little - looks a little oversized, in my opinion. :)
