Indeed, I wish I knew how to make proper airports, they're interesting structures to build...

Currently, I've only covered a few large city tiles in my region... Still thinking about where things should go...

Looks great! What I'd do is build a city of around 2-3 miillion around the center of the map. Then cover the rest of the flatlands with farmland and leave those islands in the middle alone (or maybe build a few low-res settlements). :)

It looks like Snohomish County, WA to me.

A very raw metro map of my region. Tonight I will add the stations in the lines that are already built (1, 2, 4 and 6), and geographical context ( now it looks plain weird, but most empty spaces are water)

UPDATE: A way better version, with improved proportions, geographical context (including hills) and more straight lines:

mcdl_zps2hrjjlda.png
(yes, this looks a lot like Mini Metro; that's the idea)

====

ANOTHER UPDATE:

I've building the new lines, and thanks Will Wright for the traffic simulator! Many lines' layouts were totally wrong, causing transit havoc. So, an updated map, with lots of corrections and a Metro logo (maybe this is the seed of a CJ, who knows?)

Indeed they can! That looks like a wonderful airport. Would love to see some more airport service roads than the one already present along the inside of the terminals, though. :)

Not much right now, but I've been leveling and creating the area to serve as a new high wealth residential enclave. This specific area has a near mirror north of it that will serve as waterfront hubs for the residential area (land in the background). Going to push the limits on this and still have to peruse the databases to see if there is some content I want to use in it I haven't found yet. Love these boardwalks but man they auto-level so lining things up right took a bit.

I'll post a few pics as it comes along but want to save the majority for a future cj entry.

P.S. If anyone has some suggestions on marinas that would go well with these boardwalks please let me know!

Your project looks like it is working nicely there , I would suggest checking out NBVC's content on the STEX

Latest round of inspiration from Vitriuvius and Sir Ebenezer Howard (http://www.spur.org/publications/article/2012-11-09/grand-reductions-10-diagrams-changed-city-planning, Sir Howard's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garden_city_movement).

The idea of the Garden City region is to build a new city at a suitable distance when the old one is full, not expand the old one. I found these ancient city diagrams to be a delightful model to expand upon as Garden Cities:

Construction of two Vitrivius inspired street layouts as Garden Cities:

Sir Howard intended for Asylums of all kinds in and around these cities:

More transit is needed to support higher populations.

Laying out another of the Vitruvius style maps:

This one's a bit close to the next Garden City, but I doubt the neighbors will be complaining.
