About This File

Designed by renowned architect Philip Johnson, the IDS Center was completed in 1972 and is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. At 776 feet to its roof, 792 feet to the top of its rooftop window washing garage (included in its official height so as to narrowly eclipse two of its neighbors in the rankings), and 910 feet to the top of its antennae, the building is indisputably the tallest in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and the entire midwestern US outside of Chicago.

Ever since I joined the site in 2005, I've hoped for someone to recreate this building (it's even my username). Since it never happened, I went ahead and made it myself! This one has been an on-and-off work in progress since about 2015, and after 8 complete revisions of the glass material and a few full days of rendering time, I am pleased to finally be able to present it to you.

I have included CO$$ and CO$$$ versions in both growable and ploppable varieties, as well as an additional pair of CAM growables (which require this mod). All versions are available in Darknite and Maxisnite varieties and sit on 4X6 lots. The Darknite version requires Simfox's Day and Nite Modd, and only one version can be used at a time.

In the early 1970s, many city centers were struggling following decades of disinvestment and more recent civil unrest. The solution: gleaming modernist office towers that would serve thousand of workers on their floors, in the hope that their activity would spill out and invigorate increasingly empty storefronts, as well as provide a healthy boost to a declining tax base. In Minneapolis, part of that hope lay with the IDS Center, 57 stories of commerce and enterprise in a svelte modernist package.

Everything about IDS2's design is simply exquisite. The modeling is superb, the texturing appropriate, the nightlighting is a sumptuous mix that varies per floor just as it would in real life as different bulb sets burn out and get replaced, the roof junk is practically photo-accurate. This is simply stunning. A well deserved 5/5 to IDS2, this is a wonderful addition to the STEX and this community is grateful!

You did an outstanding job on this one. Great details, a good portion of roof junk and the nightlighting is an eyecatcher.

The building kinda reminds me of the MetLife Building in Manhattan.
