About This File

No dependencies. All lots are 5x5 ploppables in the Reward menu, available at the start, and are network and transit enabled (capacity: 100)  Maxis lighting.

This project is inspired by the first version of SimCity (Classic) now called 'Micropolis' developed in the 1980's and released as open source. The 7th preview is an image of a session of playing the Java version of Micropolis that is freely downloadable from github.com.

In Micropolis there are only three same-sized squares for RCI zoning. I've used the reward system in SC4 to re-lot all 6 of the large commercial office buildings, 2 of the largest high-wealth residential, 1 of the largest high-tech industrial buildings, and 1 agricultural building. All the lots are the same area size like in Micropolis.

The queries are the same queries used for the buildings as grown in the game.  The associated reward will only be indicated in the reward menu as the item is selected and plopped.

The lots contain code for both the reward and the replacement building so apparently the lots provide the benefits of the reward as well as the operation of the building. The intent of making these lots is providing access to the buildings so the reward function was not evaluated, but the queries do report capacity usage for the replaced building --no 'goofy stat' for the reward.

NOTE:  Residential ploppables may indicate some usage initially, but will quickly degrade to Abandoned Due to Commute Time so are not functional as Residential.

Previews of Buildings Featuring Terrain Mods (see Preview and Install.html in zip file)

Terrain Resources Listed in: Cori's Terrain Shoppe

Descriptions of the 10, 5x5 Large RCI and 1 Civic Building are included in the zip file:

The buildings appear in the reward menu with a unique menu icon, the building and reward names.  The Opera House, Farmer's Market and Tourist Trap rewards also appear in the Parks menu.

Van Prooijen Trading: Commercial: Convention Center
Ong Condos: Residential: Major Art Museum
Hurt Enterprise Headquarters: Commercial: Tourist Trap
• Hogan, Wallace, and White Insurance: Commercial: Resort Hotel

• Cahalane Communications: Civic: Bureau of Bureaucracy
Lind Entertainment: Commercial: Stock Exchange
Byall Tower : Residential: Opera House
Tubing Facility: Industrial: Advanced Research Center
Alvin's Acres: Agriculture: Farmer's Market

Pedriana Pharmaceuticals: Commercial: TV Station
A stage 8 CO§§§ building in the Chicago tileset.  Capacity: 7,103

______________________________________________________

I've given this lot project the name MicroProject and made a logo for identifying the lots in the Reward and Parks menus. Each lot appears near the original reward, with a building icon and the logo overlay. The original reward is not replaced. The re-lots are available at the start of a new city.

I don't know how many lots I've looked through that had glowing (but in my mind meaningless) reviews where the reviewer gave a 10/5, but where I have found serious problems (like missing major dependencies, or missing models, or empty model files, or...).

As I hinted at, I love your choice of props.  They actually fit, fill up the blank space, and don't include massive numbers of clumped Sims that just don't seem to fit.

I love people who tend to think outside the box.  You have definitely done so by providing alternatives to Maxis rewards and also providing ploppable buildings that as you stated, many players may not otherwise see (although CAM and CAMified versions of these buildings could possibly change that).

Also as I implied, I don't necessarily agree with a choice of some of the buildings, although I understand that your primary purpose of providing some of the larger buildings drove your choices.

The Convention Center works if one imagines Convention Center/Hotel.  Most of the rest I totally see them as the rewards stated.  I look at the building and if someone says "That's the such and such building", it would make perfect sense.  The ones that don't really work for me (this is just my opinion; I'm looking at both the building and it's stated function) are the Art Museum, Tourist Trap, and Opera House.

Thanks for your thoughtful and constructive review, and its nice to know there are some that find interest, enjoyment and use of these lot-making projects.

ST is a family-friendly site so is not too strict on content beyond essential security and ettiquete.  Many people do more so enjoy the graphics and sharing without much expectation otherwise.

I do appreciate the huge mods such as the CAM, the SPAM, and the NAM, and each of them have their own large fan-base.  There are some users that have also disabled as much of Maxis vanilla as possible.

I figured the choice of which building to use with which reward would be different for others, but with so much other info involved I didn't include how I chose the combinations.   Ideally, the user would be able to switch the combos according to their own creative view.

I did consider sharing the draft with others before I finalized the selections, but I was feeling a personal connection to the history of the game that many others may not be relating to.

Again thank-you for the positive contructive review and comment.  It will help in making the next project.

I selected the Major Art Museum reward for the Ong Condos Residential building because the building is modernist and has an elaborate plaza that I figured was welcoming to artists and art-fans alike, offering open space to contemplate and share modern art.  As well, it associated to one of the greatest masterieces of modern architectural art, the Sydney Opera House in Australia.

I think of Opera as Classical Music so I selected the gothic-looking Byall Residential Tower that would seem to fit in either old-Europe or early-America.  The building has a large base that I could see as housing a major acoustic-engineered auditorium.

The Hurt Enterprise Headquarters is an unusual looking building, somewhat of a post-modernist appearance, and its the tallest Maxis building.  The inspiration to make a 'tallest' building seems more sensationalist than functionalist or strictly artistic, so I figured the building quaified as a Tourist Attraction (Tourist Trap). Sims could travel from all-over to get a t-shirt and fridge magnet saying 'I Visited the Tallest Building in Sim-World'.

These look great! Nice to be able to use the buildings right away instead of having to wait for them to grow. I have a side question: In the picture of the night skyline, I noticed your highway next to the Convention Center had filler walls. I've been searching on here for something like that. Where did you get those?

Can't wait to see more!

Thanks.  I think I can see what you mean about the filler walls, as like under the highway and one just above.  Those aren't actually walls but are an effect of the Sahara terrain color and some vertical shadows, making what appears to be a beige wall.   There might be a way of making a wall something like what you are looking for by using the stonewall props in the Lot Editor.   I'll see what I can do as I'll be working on a project that could make use of such walls as well.

Glad you are finding these buildings useful.  They are normally very difficult to get to grow on their own in-game.

Hello, I love these buildings, thanks for this. I do have a problem though... Ong Condos quickly becomes abandoned due to commute time. I have tried plopping it right next to WTC to ensure there are plenty of high wealth jobs available in the immediate vicinity, this hasn't solved it. Any ideas? Thanks again.

Yeah I noticed that too when I was testing it.   The large buildings normally only grow at very high population, and I've run into the long commute time problem regularly in the game otherwise.  There are a lot of threads about others having the problem and many different answers.   The exemplar in the file is exactly the same, I haven't adjusted anything except adding it to the reward.   I suppose we could try building a thriving health wealth residential area with high demand and for high wealth jobs as well, and then plopping the building in the middle to see if it works.  Another idea would be to isolate the building and make it the only one available for high wealth demand and see it that works.  As a final solution, I could just adjust the exemplar so that it is medium wealth, maybe even reduce the occupancy.  Let me know if you get it working or not.

Thank you so much! Definitely useful to know. I had been looking for something to fill in under the exit/entrance ramps mainly but also to blend in under large areas of elevated highway.

You cannot plop residential.  It always abandons.

Well this isn't what I wanted to hear, but thanks for saving me from the futility of trying!

So the consensus seems to be that regardless what you do the game will not allow plopped residential to survive.  If the buildings are desired as eye-candy at least the mod below does prevent the dilapidation.  I'm sure I did come across some functional landmarks that did not abandon, or at least not for awhile.

Thanks Randy for that link, this is a satisfactory compromise. I can just treat it as a landmark.
