I had a 2070 which the game was working pretty well on. My region is not very build up at all, like under 10k population. A few weeks ago I upgraded to a 3070, and now I'm a little worried because when I go into a city tile I think my fps is dropping when I move the camera. Seems to be dropping down to single digits even. I'm really not sure what might be going on. Anyone seen anything like this, when upgrading to a new gpu? I'm wondering what I should try?

MTT S80: Potentially the best GPU for SimCity 4?
Propfam posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Hello, Sorry for a bit late but Linus made a video about MTT S80, the first Chinese-made graphics card. It only supports DX9, which is perfect for SimCity 4. It could be the fastest native DX9 card ever produced. I want to see how much is the potential. But this card will be political thanks to the current political climate. Hopefully one of us will enjoy this card. -
How to make SC4 run with the dedicated GPU on notebook?
Lu posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I tried to follow some guides that I found here, but none worked, I hope that by creating a topic of my own someone can help me or I can understand better and be able to solve it. I have installed SC4 from steam, SC4Launcher, 4GBpatch for SC4 and SC4Launcher. How far did I get> my Video Cards.sgr my Graphics Rules.sbr OBS: i dont know why, but this information always disappear when I launch the game and I need to put it back The state of the game and GPU usage, first with the SC4Launcher: If I try to open with the High-performance NVIDIA processor its fail to open :v the windows explorer is restarted Opening normally with the software option, it opens and is even smooth, maybe because of the SSD, but as you can see the use of the GTX 1050 is 0 It opens normally with the DirectX option, but the game runs with lower FPS. trying to use the option of High-performance NVIDIA processor in SimCity 4.exe instead of the Launcher, it opens normally, but even so it does not use the GTX 1050, it opens according to the information saved in SC4Launcher. I hope there is some way for this to be resolved. Thanks -
what's wrong here... I transferred all my plugin and files to a new laptop and this is the quality that I get...what have I done wrong??

Issue Regarding GPU Rendering with RTX 3050
Simcityppl posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I finally have a pc that isn't a paperweight with intel 620hd graphics. I moved my SimCity 4 game over with all my mods and I had to reinstall NAM and CAM. It seems to work except for the graphical issue. It likely has something to do with the GPU rendering because it doesn't seem to show up on software mode. I do have the HD euro car automata and some hd props. I am also using LRM and DN. I have configured my game to run with the 3050 in the Nvidia control panel. I haven't tried a DirectX wrapper yet. -
Hi I've tried to use all the available options, above, even compatibility mode Windows XP Pack 3, i changed “Graphics Rules.sgr" and "Video Cards.sgr”, Software, hardware, directX, i try everything, I tried to turn off my Anti virus, but my game lag to much. I had a Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 970 G1 Gaming 4 GB, was perfect, I sold this graphics card to upgrade for this one MSI GeForce RTX 2060 GAMING Z 6GB. But SimCity 4 on This RTX 2060 is very slow, does anyone have this graphics card “RTX 2060” or know how to solve the slowing problem on this graphics card. Thank you

Coming back after 10+ years, a few short questions
Unmei posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Hey there! Didn't see a dedicated help thread, so hopefully this is allowed. Haven't been around these parts in a good while I'm looking into getting back into SC4 and after a couple of hours of tweaking, I think I've got it running properly on modern hardware. Couple of things I'd like to check with you guys before committing, though: Since I haven't played in ages, I doubt it's a good idea to let myself be overwhelmed by installing literally all the mods, so I've stuck to what seem to be the most essential bug-fixes and the like, along with NAM. Can I add mods for graphic overhauls and/or additional buildings to an ongoing region, or will that cause problems? I've noticed that scrolling the city map is exceedingly slow. Is there a way to speed that up in an .ini file or something? Once I set the game to Win XP compatibility, I can run it in DirectX mode. Would adding my GPU to the list of recognized cards still do anything? Or can I skip that step? CAM or not to CAM? If I understand it correctly, it smooths out the growth curve of RCI zones, but it doesn't play too nice with a lot of user-made content? For example, I've installed the Less Abandonment tweak, that tweaks the land value/desirability requirement for $$$-wealth buildings, but I imagine these things would overlap? Thanks in advance~ -
I have SimCity 4 through steam, and I have SC4Laucher, I use SC4Launcher, I have a GTX 1050ti GPU, but even trying to start with both, I see that only the application called steamwebhelper.exe is using the GPU, not the game. Are there ways to resolve this? I believe that running the game on the GPU would make it run better.

Can't run SimCity 4 on separate NVIDIA 940M graphics card.
RosaParx posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Hello, I'm trying to get SimCity 4 to run on my second GPU -- NVIDIA GeForce 940M graphics card. The game runs on an Intel HD Graphics 520 card and it makes SimCity lag (I would think it wouldn't since this computer model is about 3 years old). I went through other posts regarding changing graphics drivers, but I can't find anything on it for this specific card. I've tried this (changed properties to -d:OpenGL) and it didn't work or force the game to switch from Intel HD Graphics cards to NVIDIA card. & this: & this: (when I look up the system info for the graphic card specs I can't find the 0x0000 number that's mentioned in the link above to attach to Video Cards.sgr) Still can't really find anything that relates to the NVIDIA 940M graphics card and putting in the correct on the Video Cards.sgr or the Graphics Rule.sgr files. I've also changed my computer to only run on NVIDIA when I open programmes from the NVIDIA control panel; that didn't work either. Maybe my computer is playing games with me since I'm playing games on it? These are the computer specs: Product Name m7-n109dx Product Number M1W11UA Microprocessor 6th generation Intel® Core™ i7-6500U (2.5GHz with turbo boost up to 3.1GHz, 4MB L3 Cache) Dual Core Memory 16GB DDR3L SDRAM (2 DIMM) Video Graphics NVIDIA® GeForce® 940M Graphics with 2048MB of dedicated video memory with up 4096MB total graphics memory Display 17.3" diagonal FHD (33) IPS anti-glare WLED-backlit touch screen (1920x1080) Hard Drive 1TB 5400RPM hard drive Multimedia Drive SuperMulti DVD burner Network Card Integrated 10/100/1000 GbE LAN Wireless Connectivity 2x2 802.11ac WLAN and Bluetooth External Ports Multi-Format Digital Media Card Reader 4 SuperSpeed USB 3.0, 1 supporting USB Boost 1 HDMI 1 RJ-45 (LAN) 1 Headphone-out/microphone-in combo jack Sound Bang & Olufsen with dual speakers Keyboard Full-size backlit keyboard with numeric keypad Pointing Device HP Imagepad with multi-touch gesture support Dimensions 1.21 in (H) x 16.34 in (H) x 11.07 in (D) Weight 6.97 lb Power 65W AC adapter 4-cell 41WHr 2.8Ah lithium-ion battery Camera Intel® RealSense™ 3D Camera (front-facing) 1920 x 1080, 2 MP, with integrated dual array digital microphones -
hey folks, my rig is pretty old...like really old. stats: NVIDIA GT 220 (2GB VRAM); Intel Core Quad 2 8300 (2,5Ghz); 4 GB DDR2 RAM...all nicely crammed on a dusty MS-7366 board. basically the 1995 chevy impala of the pc world. my question: which of these components is the most responsible for performance? i set the game to software mode and have it running on one core of the cpu only...so far no crashes. BUT: my plugin folder is swelling and i'm going to add a couple hundred bats, lots, etc within the next two days.....i fear the worst. soooo....doubling or quadrupling the RAM will do me any good? changing the GPU? i'm not gonna do some cardial surgery on my trusty old fella here, so CPU replacement is out of the question. any insight and advise is very much appreciated. thank you.

Any GPU recommendations for a system with a decent CPU, 24gigs of RAM and using a lot of assets/mods? I was looking at possibly the GTX980 as those seem to have dropped in price quite a bit since I last looked at one. Any others I should look at?

Is There a Way to Disable V-Sync, Let the Game Use My GPU and Play SC4 Smoothly?
mawendir posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Hello everyone, it's been a long time since I've not been around here. I got a problem. My FPS locked at 60 FPS and whenever I zoom in/out, FPS drops huge, like to 1 or 5 FPS and it's quite bothering. I changed my "Graphics Rules" and "Video Cards" files properly. I switched integrated GPU to high performanced GPU in NVidia Control Panel. I set launch options properly either, like -CPUCount:1 -CPUPriority:high -d:DirectX etc. and I chose hardware rendering in game options. All I want is to play SC4 smoothly with my GPU but without V-Sync, without huge FPS drops, without having any freezing and slowing issues. And lastly, I've noticed that when I save graphic options in game and then restart the game, it doesn't take any effect, it resets to old options. Any help would be just perfect. Thank you already! -
What are some good laptop specs for handling SC4?
Edvarz posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Hi Simtropolitans! I'm upgrading my 5 year old laptop soon, and I would like to know what specs would be good for handling SC4 with up to 3gb of plugins and on hardware mode, if possible. I currently have a 2.4 Ghz Intel Core i3 CPU, with 4 GB of RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M GPU. I can run the game just fine, but lately I tend to only play medium sized city tiles, without an HD terrain mod or a custom tree controller, and with shadows and automata turned off; I also use an "Endless summer mod" by Twrecks to limit seasonal trees and save on some performance. However, an HD terrain mod is not a necessity on my book. I know modern hardware can handle this game just fine, but I've heard some GPUs like some basic Intel ones are problematic. For the price range I'm on, I'll most likely end with a similar CPU and GPU, and with a similar amount of RAM, I guess I mainly want to know about the graphics card. Also, I don't know about AMD processors and GPUs, since I've never had a computer with one. Thanks in advance! -
What graphics card do you play C:S with?
Ichigo951 posted a topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
And how does it preform? I ask because I'm thinking of getting a new graphics card sometime, and I want to get a decently priced one that preforms well. I have a 750 Ti, and while it's good, it's a bit older now and I want to get something more recent. -
Only Crashed my PC Once... So Far...
CityBuilderPie posted a topic in Cities: Skylines Technical Help Q&A
Trying to make a world in map editor caused a GPU crash. Both monitors dead; audio dead; no periipherals (mouse/keyboard etc.) CPU fans still on. Hard reboot required to get pc on again. My specs: Win 8.1 64 bit AMD 3.5 GHz CPU (3.8 with turbo) 8 core processor 8GB DDR3 (memory) 1TB SATA (hard drive) **edit: missed t in TB was not capitalized** nvidia geforce GT 610 graphics 500 watt power On the low end of mid-range gaming rigs. I have the Deluxe Edition of the game, and it has been running BETTER than any other city building game I have played in the past 5 years! I have played for 40-50 hours so far and gotten several achievements unlocked. max pop so far has only been 25-30k. I have made several parks in asset manager, as a happiness aid. I set the consumption to zero; make them cost next to nothing to build, and make their happiness range huge. I have tweaked some buildings and made some rudimentary intersections in asset manager too. All that works smooth. But when I went to world manager and spent 2+ hours trying to get a GORGEOUS map ready, my PC crashes. Map lost. Next step install the auto save mod! Now I'm afraid to use map editor again. Maps from other users here have loaded fine. Gameplay is not the issue. It was the map editor. Any advice? -
Hello all Simtropolis members I recently bought a new high end Samsung Series 7 Chronos 770Z7E S0-NL, which has these following specs: Intel Core i7 3635QM AMD Radeon HD 8870M 8GB RAM 1TB HDD 1080p IPS panel. Windows 7 Profesional and all drivers are working. (Did a downgrade, W8 recovery partition is still available) SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition, retail box + updated to the latest version. For more information, here is the link to the laptop review (http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Samsung-Series-7-Chronos-770Z7E-Notebook.89376.0.html) My following problem. I like playing SC4 a lot, but the game doesn't want to run on the powerful AMD GPU, the game keeps running on the IGPU of the i7 CPU. That causes my game to lag a lot. 3 FPS when I turn the shadows on medium. When I turn off the shadows the game doesn't lag anymore. That's fine but the game gets quite boring (and empty) without any shadows turned on. I tried running the game on lowest settings and only shadows on medium but the same problem keeps occur. What I've tried; 1. First of all I've tried to run other old games (C&C Generals, FS2004) and these games runs the whole time on the AMD GPU because these games recognises the AMD while SC4 doesn't. 2. So I started CCC (Catalyst Control Centre) + Intel Graphics MCP and selected simcity4.exe to run on high performance. I restarted my laptop and SC4 still had a lot of lag. 3. So I looked at the web and didný find anything helpful. No one had reported this problem with an Intel + AMD GPU configuration, only Intel + Nvidia. I looked to other games that might have the same problem, tried what they suggested but didn't work for me unfortunately. 4. So I tried to look at the game installation folder to see anything weird and I spotted that the game only recognises the HD 4000 instead of the Radeon 8870M. I tried to remove the Intel one and place the AMD instead with the correct driver name, register key and such but neverless the game keeps using the HD 4000. 5. I installed the same game on my aunt's new HP laptop which has an A8 APU together with a 8670M and the game didn't lag and the strange thing is that the game recognises the 8670M while on my laptop it didn't. 6. The provided Bios doesn't have any forcing High performance gpu option, only basic things like boot order, hyperthreading and turbo managment. What drivers I used: First I used the standard drivers that Samsung provided with my laptop but I had the same problems so I downloaded the latest ones for the AMD (13.11) and Intel (2143.0 I think) from their official sites and nothing has changed. What I could do, Reinstall the game for the 2nd time. Find other city simulation game Hopefully someone could help me with this annoying problem. Bye for now I noticed that I posted this in to the wrong forum section, I'm apologizing for the inconvenience! (WHYY does this always happening to me )
