  1. I recently rebuilt my legacy PC with Windoze 7 Pro 64-bit. After installing SC4 from "The Box" disk set, I manually copied a whole slew of critical files from my moribund XP disk to the new areas. Among the replacements (after making backups) was my fully patched SC4 exe. It runs without crashing, but I noticed that it never grabbed more than 1GB of RAM. So I downloaded and ran the original 4GB patch against it. However, even after that and with 8GB recognized and usable by Windoze, SC4 typically tops out at ~700MB, leaving 6GB free, unused and wasted. And I mention this because my play is marred by gross delays during which I can hear intense HDD activity smacking of page-swapping. The triggers are almost random. Sometimes I can zoom ok, and sometimes I must wait 2 minutes. Sometimes I can rotate a city in a fraction of a second, and sometimes I must wait 3 minutes. Sometimes I can drop a menu instantly, and sometimes I must wait a minute+. WTF? I've been through generic Win-7 help. The generic system optimization hasn't helped. What ran smoothly in Win-XP is now hanging in Win-7 64-bit, and I need to fix it. I've searched the Internet and hit a haystack. How can I coax Win-7 to allocate more than 700MB to SC4? How can I coax Win-7 to use more than 3GB total for applications? I'll try to get a config log from the machine later today and post it here. One bit of good news: Now having 8GB, I experimented with a RAM-disk. My 2:18 game-load dropped to 47 seconds, and my 3:10 city-load dropped to 2:00 flat. These gains are before dat-packing. Granted, the RAM-disk takes time to load, but I am writing scripts to do that at start-up and later remind me after playing that I should sync updated cities to HDD.
  2. My game crashes about 5 minutes into loading a map even on vanilla (-noWorkshop -noMods). I'm guessing it has something to do with my RAM based on similar posts, but shouldn't 8gb of ram enough even for the un-modded game? 3. Hey folks. So I bought the game when it first came out and MAYBE played 10 hours or so on it. Life got in the way but I'm BACK! Well anyways... I want to play in sandbox basically. I want to create and detail, etc. Maybe even do a city journal. I've been watching a few guys play and I subscribed to one guys assets and all on the workshop. I've been piddling around this morning and I've a couple or 9 questions. I'll start with just a couple. Hope someone can help me. For background, I have a RX 480 GPU and I'm running 16GB of ram. Now, as you can see from the screenshot, I'm getting a few failures on game startup (related to assets and a bunch of 'missing' assets. So... is there a way to clean all of that up where that stuff isn't failing or missing? Doesn't seem to hurt anything but perhaps my OCD isn't going to make it through. By the way, some of the items that are missing or assets that I actually want. So any guidance on getting them into the game would be helpful too. Also, so my expectations are realistic, for around 2k assets, is it normal to take a few minutes to load each session? I'm assuming the game is loading the assets into RAM for performance. I just want to make sure nothing is off here. Here is the screenshot
  4. Heya! So from one day to another my game has been very slow. During the start up of my saved game i takes 4 times longer than ususal and while it loads it uses like 95% of my RAM. After this phase the game is playable, although every time i zoom to a new location the games lags alot until i have "paned around" the area with the camera, then the lag stops. Anyone experienced the same problem? Could it be related to a single mod/asset?
  5. Hi guys! So, I just discovered something amazing! I run the game on a Laptop (it's an Asus i7 6700HQ@2.60GHz, GTX950M with 4GB dedicated RAM) and since now I haven't had any particular problems. The game runs smooth enough, but loading times... man! Were they a pain!! So I did something very simple, actually: I upgraded my 8GB of RAM into 16GB (this is the max this laptop would accept anyway) and: WOW!! I used to load the game (with approx. 1.2K assets and 60 mods) in 15 to 30 minutes (yeah, you read right!), now the same setup loads in less than 2 minutes! I could not believe that RAM upgrade would do so good form me! I assumed that loading times wouldn't improve much, because (this at least was my reasoning) the HD would still be the same, so reading speed would be the same, right? Boy, was I wrong! Upgrading RAM really REALLY improves your loading times! Those of you who haven't tried yet, should!

  7. Introducing NAM Hotfix Package Current Version: 301 (for NAM Version 30), released 13 April 2012 Download Link In order to streamline the process of releasing bugfixes and other minor updates between releases, the NAM Team is now introducing the NAM Hotfix Package. The NAM Hotfix Package combines fixes for issues reported with the most recent version of the NAM and its periphery plugins (e.g. RHW, NWM, etc.), and compiles them cumulatively into one single, unified package. Through this package, we can now include Controller/RUL-related fixes that we formerly had considerable difficulty distributing between releases. The Hotfix Package effectively replaces the confusingly named "NAM Essentials" package. The first NAM Hotfix Package release for NAM Version 30, Hotfix Package 301, is now available, and can be picked up here. Both a Windows installer and all the files necessary for a manual install (e.g. for MacOS users) are contained within the package. It may beinstalled directly over top of your existing NAM installation. It contains the following fixes/features: Updates NAM Controller to Version r139 (April 13, 2012). Arrows on preview model for OneWayRoad Viaduct Orthogonal-Diagonal Transition have been corrected. Road-ending-in-Tram-ON-Road T-Intersection piece now plops the correct direction. ERHW-over-RHW diagonal pieces that previously did not properly plop now function properly. Preview models for RealHighway RHW-6S-to-4 Type B and C Cosmetic Transitions are now properly aligned. Preview model for RHW-6S Type E1 Entrance Ramp (Exit Ramp in LHD) is now properly aligned. RHW Narrow Exit Lane Overplop for RHW-4 Type A1 Wide Ramp has been disabled. (It will not function correctly.) All previously issued path fixes for RealHighway (RHW) Version 5.0 (RHW-3 Dual Type A1 Ramp). Updates to Road, OneWayRoad and Avenue Viaduct-over-GHSR models are included. LHD path fixes, including for the Avenue Roundabouts, revamped Diagonal Maxis Highway over Diagonal Avenue interchanges, and numerous URail, Tram-in-Road, and Tram-on-Street pieces. All previously issued path and texture fixes for Network Widening Mod (NWM) Version 2.0. Dependencies Network Addon Mod Version 30 (Windows | MacOS) (Optional) Most recent versions of HSRP, NWM, RHW and SAM (needed for HSRP, NWM, RHW and SAM fixes, respectively). Installation and Other Frequently Asked Questions This NAM Hotfix Package is intended to be installed directly over your existing NAM installation. The Hotfix is not a Core release. It only contains the files necessary to fix all that is noted in the above feature list. Do not uninstall your existing NAM version when installing a Hotfix Package. More specific instructions on installation may be found on the description page for the download, and in the Readme. The NAM Core itself will generally not be updated in the wake of Hotfix Package releases (the current NAM Version 30 upload does not include the Hotfix already applied. The purpose of the Hotfix Package is to allow us to be able to issue fixes without having to update the Core and distribute them in a more unified manner than easily-lost forum attachments spread all over the place. -The NAM Team
