Which EPs Should I Buy Up to $16?
Propfam replied to Propfam's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
UPDATE: I probably not buying the game because my parents recommends me to save the money. Also, I don't have powerful Macs, PC or laptops yet. Thanks. -
Hello, As we know, Windows is the most popular OS. Windows 10 comes with fluid UI and feature complete. However, I saw some flaws: big-sized updates (> 50 MB), unneeded complexity, Paint 3D doesn't work as the normal Paint, inconsistency (e.g. there are 2 kinds of context menu, black-colored UWP one and the gray-colored classic one), lack of native Unix environment (enabling possibilities to easy programming) and the so-called "spyware" injected by Microsoft. I want to do some creative works and light gaming. So, I want to ask a question, is Windows ideal for those works? Should I buy Mac and use macOS (often used by creative pros and coders)? Or, should I use Linux distros (more flexible)? Or, should I make them dual-boot? Please share your opinions with logical reason and don't disrespect another opinions. Thanks.

Hello, I want to start a gaming YouTube channel. However, there are many obstacles: I have just SimCity 4 and as you know, the game isn't a great game to start with. So, I need Cities: Skylines, which leads me to the next problem. My computer isn't powerful enough to play C:S because just I'm using HD Graphics 3000. 4 GB of RAM is fine. My internet speed both upload and download is really slow, 1 Mbps and sometimes error without reasons. I don't have camera for future facecam (not really a concern). I don't have empty external hard drive (1 TB is recommended) for the next thing I will discuss. Luckily, there is a Geforce iCafe-certified internet cafe near me (according to Nvidia, the participant cafes must have 9xx or 10xx GTX-series cards and 50 or more GTX 1060s or higher; enough for C:S). However, it still not fixing the problem #1: lack of C:S. I just have around $16, which isn't enough to buy even the vanilla. I will not talking about gray/black ways to getting it (because it against the site rules). Can you help me to getting started? Or, should I learn another skills instead, like 3D modelling or programming? Thanks.

Should I buy this bundle: https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/5054/Cities_Skylines__New_Player_Bundle/?snr=1_5_9__403? Should I buy another EPs, too? Just adding Mass Transit, After Dark, Green Cities and that bundle costs me Rp 259,695 ($18.5). If the NAM is easy to use and flexible, I will choose SC4 instead of C:S. Regarding to the spec, you're right. But, I'll play the game at the nearest cafe, see the top of the topic. What I left is the external hard drive, which costs around $100. For my motivation, I want something to be flexible, fun and friendly but have some not-impossible challenges. Maybe, to be a gaming YouTuber is the answer. @rsc204 @CorinaMarie @Yarahi @Cyclone Boom Thanks.

Yes, I know about that. There's no thing as partial ownership, especially in consumer products. What I mean is a small crowdfunding where you can voluntarily give some money and I'll buy the game. I could host my crowdfunding on Kickstarter but I think my need is little so there's no benefits to host it on KS. If for instance I don't need the game in the first place, I will give away to you if I can. I hope this helps you. Thanks.

I have just $16, not enough to buy all the EPs because I want to have a complete game. How about if we combined our money together? The problem is because I am too young to have a credit card, so I must use my parents one. Someone with solutions to my problems is appreciated. Thanks. @Haljackey @Handyman @Terring @Avanya @rsc204 @CorinaMarie @kschmidt

If your game is Deluxe Edition or if you've the Rush Hour expansion pack, then you're recommended to check my guide: Otherwise, you might want to redeem your key to Origin. A word of warning, don't buy the game on the platform, just redeem the key. If you buy it, your bought game isn't patched and unpatchable. Thanks.

Confused how to do some modification? This guide for all, from beginners who need expertise to get started, to advanced players who need to rearrange their plugin folders. If you are layman to SimCity 4, check out the official manual at the Maxis Files for SimCity 4 page on Simtropolis. As a complex city simulator, features in SimCity 4 can be expanded using plugins. But, there are important things to do when adding and removing plugins: keep it simple, check dependencies and read the readme first. As a starter, you should start simple and gradually advanced. Don't rush yourself to install advanced mods. When installing mods, always check their dependencies using the BSC Cleanitol or the site-provided dependency tracker. Failed to do so can result of brown boxes to even a crash-to-desktop (CTD). Here are mods you should install in the first day: Network Addon Mod https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/26793-network-addon-mod-NAM-for-windows-installer/ One of the most downloaded and important mod. NAM adds new features and fixes bugs regarding networks, from granular traffic simulator, diagonal streets, pedestrian malls, stations to realistic highways. SC4Fix https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/30883-sc4fix-third-party-patches-for-sc4/ Being a DLL mod, SC4Fix is bringing important fixes: hovering transit-enabled lots (allows appropriate networks to connect) with NAM puzzle pieces fix, allows non-GZCOM DLL to be loaded to the so-called prop pox (props not shown in circumstances) fix. Extra Cheats https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/21118-SimCity-4-extra-cheats-plugin/ Internally used by Maxis and released by @Buggi, Extra Cheats is bringing tons of cheats: precisely set money, unlocking locked buildings, plop buildings with ease and so much more! Crime Doesn't Pay https://community.simtropolis.com/forum/files/file/21339-crime-doesnt-pay/ Reduces crimes into a controllable level. It also can be used to deal with overproduced crimes by badly-made buildings. I-HT Missing Jobs Fix https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/22771-ih-missing-jobs-fix-update/ Fixes bug regarding to missing $$$ jobs generated by I-HT buildings due to a rounding error. To install this mod correctly, follow the instruction at https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/48632-tutorial-applying-the-i-ht-bug-fix-correctly/ carefully. Maxis Prop Names Fix https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/22400-maxis-prop-names-and-query-fix/ Includes prop-version of vanilla buildings (bldgprop_vol1.dat) and Rush Hour/Deluxe (bldgprop_vol2.dat). Also, it also includes an assortment of building props Maxis had forgotten (Plugin_landmarks_and_other_missing_Props.dat). Opera House Fix https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/21342-opera-house-fix/ Fixes inhibited city growth due to Opera House overcapacity by increasing the capacity to larger number. Private Schools with Sliders https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/17566-private-schools-with-sliders/ Again, fixes inhibited city growth due to Private School overcapacity by adding the funding and school bus sliders. To be noted, DLL files can't be installed in subfolders. For instance, if you place at Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins\Essentials (assuming the default location), they'll not work. You should place it right into the Plugins folder. If you want more fixes to your game, here are the mods you needed: Real Upgradeable City Halls https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/31339-real-upgradeable-city-halls/ Minimize Button Remover https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/28243-minimize-button-remover/ SMP Yellow Pause Thingy Remover https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/18680-smp-yellow-pause-thingy-remover/ BSC Funding https://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=621 Allows you to be funded by (imaginary) companies or non-government organizations. Friendly Business Deal https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/31434-friendly-business-deal-mods-all-7/ City Hall MMP Fix https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/13296-city-hall-fix/ Fixes the annoying problem when non-flora Mayor Mode ploppables (MMPs) accidentally will be chose by the buildings automatically and reducing the building's aesthetics. Census Repository https://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1831 Allows you to see the city population precisely. Although this mod requires 2 dependencies, this mod is worth to use. If you want to customize the water, terrain, rocks or even the slope control, it's fine to do in the first day as long as you don't spend time too much on it. In fact, there are shoppes (except for the slope, but you can Google for it) by @CorinaMarie to customize them. If you want to install Colossus Addon Mod (CAM), Daeley Advanced Menu Navigator (DAMN. Yes, it is) or similar mods, you should only install them when you mastered enough the game, typically 3 real-life days or more. If you have constructive suggestions, critics or found mistakes, please send them in the comment section or send me a PM. Thanks.

Due to some reasons, I can't active on Simtropolis since last week until now. Thanks. -
I want to stream my SC4* to YouTube but my 1 Mb (megabit) internet doesn't allow it. So, I need to bring my laptop/flash drive (no, not an external SSD) to my friends. Also, my computer (2nd-gen i5 without dedicated GPU) is powerful enough only to edit the first videos. As time goes, my video may going complex so I need a new laptop/desktop. Helps are welcome below. Thanks. *I want stream C:S too. But, with lowest setting, the game may not run flawless. I will need performance mods, which in my knowledge isn't updated to the latest DLC & updates.

Mods that I should use in the city?
Propfam replied to matvei's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
You should definitely check my guide "Modifying your SimCity 4": (Dear staff, you might want to add the Russian translation below) Thanks. -
Hello, I want to ask a wierd but interesting questions: why Cities: Skylines have "Cities: " in the front of the name? In my knowledge, there are games with "Cities" in the front of the name, like Cities XL, Cities XXL and so on but none of them is made by Paradox or Collosal Order. CXXL for instance is made by Monte Cristo, unrelevant with Paradox and CO. Is C:S is a sequel of a game called "Cities"? If yes, I never heard the game before ("Cities", not C:S). If sequel, why do Paradox releases DLC for it instead of resuming the sequel? Thanks.

Should I buy SimCity 2013 or not?
Propfam replied to leonjames87's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
SimCity (2013) is a limited city sim. First, the city size is much smaller than C:S and SC4. Second, the game doesn't give you lots of flexibility (including editing prebuilt highway) unlike SC4 and especially C:S. Third, the community only made few mods available for the game and it's limited by the game limitation (for instance, you can't destroy anything outside the city border without tools). However, SC2013 is lighter than C:S. Still, C:S is worther than this game if you've high-spec'd computer (with dedicated GPU) and SC4 if you can't afford high-spec'd computer. Thanks. -
Hello, The SimCity 4 and 3000 community isn't decentralized anymore. I mean, there are just SC4Devotion and Simtropolis. SimCityPolska is dead. SFBT, well I don't know. City Builders will be ceased to exist in November. SC4ever and SC3000.com isn't active anymore (but still exists). Yes, I don't hate either sites but I'm worrying about unhealthy competition, something common in mono/duopoly. There was a case in 2009, a person called Constantina make trolls the SC4D's wiki.1 The user is banned from SC4D Wiki and Simtropolis. 1, 2 Dirk (I'm not sure the user is really @Dirktator or not) later edited pages about Simtropolis and he's banned from the Wiki.1 I don't know why he is banned and I don't know what happened when he's banned. But, maybe the relation between ST and SC4D in that year isn't quite well. If the community runs into problem, we risk into not exist. So, I came up with community decentralization, meaning we must build other sites to keeping our community exists. The sites should be active, otherwise it's just a formality and zero result given. If you have suggestions, critics or comments, feel free to give them below. 1 http://www.wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php?title=Special:IPBlockList 2 http://www.wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php?title=People_talk:Constantina Thanks.

But, I can't still play it because the system requirement is too high (integrated GPU can't play the game). Maybe, you refer in the early era (2015-2016), where C:S has no expansion packs and has some flaws. Sorry if my word wrong. Thanks.
-
But, almost none of them is actively visited by and influencing global users, except for TSC and SFBT (is SFBT and SCPlaza is same?). My country community, SimCity 4 Kaskus only rarely making posts and they're stop producing custom contents anymore but still exist due to hosted in Indonesian largest community center, Kaskus. We are missing the golden age of community decentralization: SC4 Kaskus is active, Japanese sites are active, SimPeg is active, CB is active and SCPolska is active. We hope this only affects CB, SimCityPolska etc and smaller ones is being made, but currently there isn't progress about it, unlike Minecraft community and content creators. Thans.

Lost my SC4 regions and Cities
Propfam replied to VitroOliveira's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Why you don't utilize NAM? NAM only gives about 5-10 minutes to loading time (in my laptop and it didn't compiled) and the advantages outweight the loading time. So, what making the game slow? Unneeded plugins. If you want to rebuild your plugin folder, be sure to check my advice below. Thanks.- 1 Reply

Hello, I want to be mobile and efficient yet effective. I was consider Windows hybrids but none of them support my country's cellular connectivity (I want to use the tablet for WhatsApp). Also, I want to do some notetakings. Yes, I could use iPad and PC but for fields like coding, I want to meet with my friends, for instance. It's not funny to bring the PC (especially if not the mini-ITX ones) to other locations. Laptops and iPad combination seems ideal, but laptops can't be upgradable (except for the super expensive ones). What's the best combination for me? Thanks.
-
Yes, it works for me. I've been using it for a long time, although I don't play SC4 from 2 weeks ago due to my exam.
-
You might want to follow the PLEX, although it's shutdown because of accidental error, not unpopularity. PLEX admin decided to transfer all of their files to the STEX. The result, the files are preserved. Your decision to shutdown your community making the SC4 defunct community bigger. Thanks.

Hello, I'm on Manjaro 17.1.10 Xfce with Wine 3.7. I have installed the driver for my HD Graphics 3000. The game runs sluggish, even after I put d3dim700.dll to my Wine system32. I suspected this related to CPU and RAM but after closing Firefox (yes, I run the game with Firefox open), the game again runs sluggish. After I replaced the ordinary Wine 3.7 to Wine 3.7 with Gallium Nine patch, the game runs smooth. Why this could happen? As I know, the ordinary Wine translates DX calls into OpenGL, while the patched one runs DirectX calls directly. Thanks. @rsc204, @Cyclone Boom, @Handyman

Brown Boxes turns Red and Green
Propfam replied to VitroOliveira's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
But, as I know, CAM 2 (the recommended version of the CAM you should download) doesn't include the simulator again. They have I-R fix and some other options but not the simulator. Thanks.- 11 Replies

For point 2, there is a custom airports out there, the AC Functional Airports. You need to download a dozen of dependencies first. But, you'll get some airports and even heliports from the mod. For tutorials, I'll give that to the respective experts. For point 3, of course no. Even, C:S is much more flexible than SC4. Also compared to SC4, C:S is huge leap of it. C:S is suitable who are creative and have high-spec'd computer or who have lots of money to buy currently-expensive GPUs (or graphic cards). Also, you might want to read the site guideline first before you start active to this site. Reading my FAQ first before actively gaming is recommended. I wish to edit the FAQ but due to the exam that I must do, this isn't possible now. Thanks.

Is There a Cheaper Skylines? (And Does It Work on My Laptop?)
Propfam posted a topic in Cities: Skylines Technical Help Q&A
Hello, I want to buy Cities:Skylines in distant future because it has good flexibility comparing to SC4. The base game starts from IDR 199,999 (or around $15) or if I wanted the Deluxe Edition, it would be $20 from Steam. But, if I want to buy all the expansion packs, they'll cost me around $65 dollar, which is ridiculously expensive to me. As comparison, SimCity 4 is priced at $19.99 or around IDR 280,000 and still gets tons of benefit by installing the free mods here on STEX. Yes, SC4 mods have some limits that making them not flexible but still worth it. OK, is there a cheaper C:S, especially with (possibly) all the EPs? If yes, where and when should I buy it? Also, my laptop runs on Linux with 4 GB of RAM, 500 GB of storage, Sandy Bridge Core i5 and HD Graphics 3000. Can I run the game? Is it smooth? Thanks.- 7 Replies
