Postmodern Architecture: Discussion thread.
Yellowlab replied to DuskTrooper's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
I'm sort of a fan of postmodernism, but then again, I'm sort of not. I enjoy it more than modernism, and I consider the Internationalist era a disaster, but postmodernism as an architectural genre is way too broad for me. Basically everything being built today is defined as postmodern; looking through this thread shows that the term really has no meaning, as generally every type of building is shown here. If you stick with the true definition of postmodernism which DuskTrooper was nice enough to post for us, I would rate it as okay. Seeking the past in today's architecture is cool with me, but it can produce mixed results. -
I was looking at my Inbox for around 10 minutes trying to find it...but it was in the Compose screen. Ah.

Hmmm...I would tend to think the community would benefit greatly from having a thread such as this, where members with issues that they need to talk about can do so with people that they know and people that care and can empathize, not just sympathize, with them because they are experiencing the same thing. Being able to talk with a mature person about something that is weighing very heavily is a great thing, not something to be shunned because it might offend someone somewhere. Shutting your eyes is never better than talking about something important like this.

Hmm...well, last time I checked I wasn't gay, but I do have a deep, dark secret that is kept in the closet. That would be that I have recently (as in the past 2-3 years) discovered that I am an atheist. I come from a politically liberal yet very conservative family and as of yet have told no one, except for here. I remain active in my church (youth group leader, music leader, choir, mission work, etc.) but in reality my dark secret is that after philosophizing and thinking about it a lot for the last few years I have realized that I simply do not believe that there is a deity out there. I don't think I will tell my parents; it would absolutely kill my mother, who is a devout Presbyterian, or my father, who is actually the minister of the church. Once I get to college, I will gradually phase out church as part of my life and leave it at that; let sleeping dogs lie... Not to get off subject, but this is The Simtropolis Closet, and that is my closet issue that nobody but the people on this site know about.

Okay, it's updated to this point.

Adopt ANTI TERRORISM signiture for a week

What strikes me is how painfully easy it would be to pull off a terrorist attack. For example, I was in Washington over the weekend, and members of the group I was with were able to carry backpacks and bags onto the Metro, onto buses, into museums, including the Smithsonian, and basically anywhere without any kind of security at all. In the Museum of American History (Smithsonian) we walked through the metal detectors and our bags were not searched at all. Police detail on the Metro was non-existent (we rode 3 different times, getting on/off at 6 stations, and were not searched once. The entire time I was on the Metro (probably an hour or so) I only saw 1 officer, who was not even in the car or looking around the platform but was simply standing there. I could have brought a bomb onto the train as easily as I could have brought a camera on, which was scary, really. The only place our bags were searched in was the Smithsonian Air and Space. Overall the lack of security in DC was astounding. If you throw in the innumerable soft targets - hotels, restaurants, street corners, cars, schools - the opportunity for terrorism here is not only apparent but easy to do. -

Those look very DC and very nice, and I really like your hotel. The only suggestion I have is to add a covered entranceway to the apartments, such as is seen on hotels and upscale apartment towers. Cloth roof, little metal poles and an arched top, with one of those people who stands there all the time and valets. It looks good either way though.

Congratulations, erka. Mystery City 22 is in the United Kingdom for 4 points. However, it is not Durham. Keep looking. Scoring erka + 4 Note: I will be out of town until next Monday (June 27), so happy guessing until then.

I must say that I do miss the good ol' days. There were a lot of people here that I never see anymore because they have left the site, I've grown busier, etc. I think at one time I was the #3 or 4 poster here, but I can't validate that. There are some people I would love to see return, but it's not going to happen. So yeah, I think 2003/early 2004 was my favorite period here, but then again, the BAT scene is great and the modding scene is too; it's really hard to say. Socially, my earlier days here were way better, but as far as game content goes, the present is the best, so I really can't say. As for specific moments, debating Dereko until 6 in the morning on several different occasions in the Chat was fun because we were Huge Simtropolis Rebels. What else...I had a CJ for a little while but lost interest in it because I got RH and because the theme was stupid. Search for Trentsville if you want to see it, but it's really quite pathetic. Note my profile...a second CJ may come out this summer if I can finish it. Hmm...the proposal was cool, as well as the release of RH and the release of the BAT. The first time I went into the Chat was a key moment, as I wasted countless hours of my life there. I don't really Chat much anymore...that's all I can really think of. ::YL::

Updated! Sorry for the delays (as usual). I will be out of town for about 2 weeks, but I probably wouldn't update anyway, so you probably won't notice a difference. /\ If the mayor is anything like my mayors, he's not driving a Ford... EDIT: But then again, Kelly has expanded her repertoire... Anyway, great lot SG. The house will really come in handy in my Miami/Vegas themed city, where some of your recent creations will also help out a lot as well. Thanks a million! ::YL::
