Looks like a place I'd like to spend a summer or two. Try making the island a bit less flat, add a mountain ridge or two and line the flat areas with houses and buildings, then cover it with tropical trees.

A non-intro like introduction

A classic SC4 city! -
You're doing an amazing thing here man, hopefully one day we'll see Salem evolved into a thriving community.

Your favorite building ever built!

The Buffalo Court Building, exceptionally brutalist. You can imagine the Ministry of Love being housed in here... -

I think it's just a developer starved for ideas, and pulling hail mary's out of their asses.

I was going to write a long reply, requesting several features and putting my two cents in, but instead I just thought about the potential in the coal resource... imagine underground coal fires? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centralia,_Pennsylvania

I'm starting to get an icky vibe here. The kind of vibe that rises when the lady behind the counter at the airport looks you in the eye and picks up the phone. Judging from the concept art, they're taking the art style in the direction of SC3000, and I like that. A kind of 'vintage/post-modern' feel that made the original Sims so great. But now they're, little by little, dancing around the questions and leading us to believe this will be another Society's fiasco.

Glassbox Engine: Scenario 1 (Economics of Zones)
AnorexicPickle commented on timoman's article in News
I'm with this Dr. Dru. an impressive simulation, to me, is one that simulates a sim moving into your city and finding a home based on what job they're qualified for. And then if they lose that job for some reason, finding a new job based on where they live. And if they were to lose that house, they'd find another one based on their income and where their job is. It's basically how SC4's simulation was represented (a simulation of a simulation I suppose). -

So what does this mean? Sims don't have jobs at places, they just answer to help wanted requests? -

AJ is right. In theory I would probably have fun playing the multiplayer mode, but I would want a collection of cities that aren't even on the multiplayer grid in any way. Why should my town suffer because some chucklefuck decides to blow up his nuclear energy plant? -
Insider's Look: GlassBox Game Engine (Part 1)
AnorexicPickle commented on Kevin's article in Other Games
With all the transparency of the engine, I'm hoping that the whole game won't rely on it. I still want data views, spreadsheets, charts, all that stuff before I feel like a real mayor. The game looks slick, but without those things it won't feel like Simcity to me. Am I alone? -
Looking Further into the Glass box Engine

Some wishlist stuff for SC5: 1: Jerry Martin 2: Oddly-shaped lots/buildings to match the curved roads 3: News ticker 4: Neutral agenda (dont want to play An Inconvenient Truth: The game) 5: Jerry Martin 6: Modding capability to rival SC4 7: A blend of realistic/professional and cartoony style (like SC4 meeting SC3k) 8: Equal amounts of slums/trailer parks to affluent shops/homes 9: Lots of ordinances 10: Jerry Martin -

Crash to desktop when importing greyscale
AnorexicPickle posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Hey guys. Today I decided to get back into SC4 and first off I downloaded the massive and beautiful San Francisco Bay Area from beskhu3epnm. I put the greyscale.jpg and the config.bmp in the Sim City 4/regions/San Francisco Bay Area folder, and in-game I crtl+alt+shift+R to browse to it, and when I do it renders the first city for a few seconds and then just crashes to the desktop. Any ideas, friends? My machine is more than capable, and if anything it's overcapable (dual core CPU). I'm going to set the affinity for only one core and try again. In the meantime if there is a a solution for this, I'd love to hear it! Thanks! Edit: the affinity to one CPU didn't help stop the crash. At my wits end here, I really looked forward to using this region! -
Just for some marijuana. They ought to focus their efforts on negotiating with South American nations to crack down on the producers of dangerous drugs instead of ruining some kids lives because they deal/posses pot.

Crash to desktop when importing greyscale
AnorexicPickle replied to AnorexicPickle's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Sounds like you are using a terrain mod - check the readme to make sure you have all the texture dependencies for this mod. Also make sure you don't have more than one terrain mod and one tree (controller) mod installed. Missing terrain textures in particular is a common reason for the game to crash while rendering - and since you can see the region fine in SC4T textures, that would indicate both your game and the region are ok. You can also test this by temporarily removing all of your plugins and seeing if the region will render in default Maxis textures - if so, it's a plugin problem. I just now got back in and was going to post that I had a solution to my problem, and you are correct. It was an issue with SHK Brigantine 2.0. I took it out of the game and it worked fine. Strange thing is, I installed the regular peg Brigatine and it works fine as well. Oh well, who knows. Now I'm having a problem with the cursor not being in color and not seeing any circles for terraforming tools or the grid when I lay streets etc. Any ideas? -
Crash to desktop when importing greyscale
AnorexicPickle replied to AnorexicPickle's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
If you put that in the default San Francisco folder, did you clean it out first? You should use an unique region folder for new regions. Now, the dual core doesn't matter but you can be sure by using the -CPUCount:1 option on your command line. Note that any option needs one space before the dash, and must come after the closing quote. If the renderer crashes, you can just restart it, by the way. What probably happened is that you hit a city that already existed. I have rendered a region over when I wanted to redo it without clearing the files, but it was the same region. You might also want to check the dimensions of your maps. Look at the config.bmp. Each side of the rectangle corresponds to a side of the gray-scale. The formula is that one pixel on a config.bmp translates into 64 px in the gray-scale, but there must be one more px on each side, so the formula is <config.bmp.side.in.px> * 64 +1 = <corresponding.side.of.gray.scale.map> Yeah I made a new folder for the new SF, and I also tried importing the greyscale into terraformer and then into the game that way, and this time I get the region fully rendered (in terraformer's textures) but when I click a city to refresh it with my texturepack the game crashes. And now for some reason whenever I try to load a city at all the game crashes. I think a fresh install of the game might fix it, but I can't find my first disk! -

Hello everyone. I'm looking for good filler lots for industrial areas/seaports. Namely I'm looking for a few different sizes of cylindrical fuel storage tanks, preferably on concrete pavement. I'm also looking for filler lots with shipping containers and parking lots etc. I mostly use Peg's seaports and other lots, so anything that would blend well with his fine work would be of big help, thanks!

003 - An update and a sneak peak
AnorexicPickle posted a City Journal entry in San Francisco Bay Area
Hello again Simtropolis. It is I, Anorepick, with more offerings for the City Gods. I said earlier that I was going to wait for the Bay Area to be completed before I posted updates, but like many promises that I have said to people in the past, that has dissolved. And this time, I promise it wont mean the unfortunate end to our relationship followed by many hours in the courthouse battling for custody and... ehh you know what, thats irrelevant. And even if I did promise something along those lines, it would surely fall apart like all my other promises. ANYWAY.. back to the brass tacks. I've done a little bit more to the region, but the main spotlight of this update is what the cities look like so far. As already stated, I'm going for more of a realism (especially in the region view) over accuracy or overall population. So while this may not be a street by street replica, I believe it looks and even feels like the area it is creating. But I wouldn't be a very neutral judge, considering I made the damn thing. So now it falls onto you all to comment and rate my work, so heres a few screenshots of the Bay City! So here is the obligatory night shot of the Crimson Gate bridge. As you can see, the Tower of London is being used as a placeholder until I can find a more suitable model of Fort Point. Here we can see the Temple of Average Artwork. Along with a tiny section of the bayline. And to Pegasus, I don't know what I'd do without your work. Thanks Pegasus... Thegasus. Here are some of the mansions of the cultural elite. Middle class homes higher up on the hillsides can be seen in the foreground. Finally we have a scenic view of the Sunset (no clever name here) with Sutro Tower in the foreground. Thanks goes to carlosau for that nice landmark. What have we learned? Maxis lots love to level themselves and create gigantic 90 degree drops of concrete in the landscape. I hate this. Thanks for reading, and if anyone knows of a good model for Fort Point I'd love for you to share it. Thanks everyone. -
002 - Introduction part II: The Legend of Curly's Gold
AnorexicPickle posted a City Journal entry in San Francisco Bay Area
Welcome back to the Frisco bay area. In my last entry, I introduced you to the regional view only of my San Francisco bay area. Because I figured that a couple region view screens won't be enough to satisfy most folks, I've made up my mind to mix things up in this update. I've included THREE region view screenshots! As you can see, I have filled in a few more gaps and expanded a few areas. Nothing much more to report here, I just figured I may as well update frequently to -shamelessly- keep the journal at the top of the page. *cough cough* Anyway, here you are, hope you enjoy! I have expanded on Wayward quite a bit. It has become the largest city in the region, and I'm planning on changing the mayor name to Kansas. Also I have decided to change the location of San Leonardo to just north of Wayward, including the suburb of Almeida in between that and Mapleland. Here we see a more completed highway system. Only a few more cities and one bridge to go, and the Bay area highway will be totally linked. \ And here's the bonus image, a blank view. Its my goal to create the best possible view of such, and so far I'm pleased with it. So that wraps it up for this small update. Next time I post I'll have completed a good 90% of the cities around the bay, and then after that I'll start taking a look at the cities themselves (or at least the major ones) . Thanks for the positive feedback and by all means, keep viewing. You've been fantastic everyone, cheers. -
So here is my second version of this region. The original one was lost on my old hard drive, and now I'm setting off to remake it as a little project. Although it may lack a lot of shiny new toys (the only real non maxis thing being the ports) I'm enjoying the process of building it up to what the original was. Here we have the region view. Population is still very very low, as I have not grown the cities too much yet. Take note of the names of the cities, using what I know of the actual bay area I managed to name them accordingly. Heres the transportation map. The highway system has almost been closed together, and I still have to expand in the south a lot with it. I'll be leaving out the San Maeto-Hayward bridge (or in my version the San Metro-Wayward bridge) due to it being too long and not having any real good place to put it. So now I'll be updating the progress I'm making here, and once I finish with it I'll start an actual journal for the cities themselves. I'd love any comments or suggestions, thanks.
