The Network Addon Mod (NAM) all transportation network-related fixes, additions and new creations that have been released so far. It adds countless new features to the existing network tools, such as traffic simulator improvements, new overpasses, highway onramps, intersections, pedestrian malls, a ground light rail network, roundabouts and turning lanes. This is the standard release version of the 49th edition of the Network Addon Mod, NAM 49. See below for installation details and a list of new features in the Changelog at the very bottom. In memory of Paul Pedriana, Lead Programmer for SimCity 4, who passed away in July 2021 from a sudden heart attack while cycling. Thank you, Paul, for everything--we wouldn't be here without you. RELEASE NOTES Before you run off in excitement to install the new NAM version, please make sure to read this document first, to ensure the best Network Addon Mod experience. Note to users of the EA App/Origin: As of June 2023, digital copies of SimCity 4 Deluxe purchased via EA.com, the EA App, or the Origin Store, or played through EA Play/Xbox Game Pass are now properly patched to Version 1.1.641, which means they are compatible with the Network Addon Mod. New Features for NAM 49 See the Changelog below INSTALLATION AND GENERAL NOTES Before attempting to run the NAM installer, ensure that you have extracted the contents of the .zip download into a folder. Attempting to run the installer while it is still in the .zip will cause the installation to fail. For a complete walkthrough on installation, see the enclosed read-first-NAM-49.html file, or https://www.sc4nam.com/docs/getting-started/ The minimum requirements for running the Network Addon Mod are as follows: A compatible retail copy of SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition OR SimCity 4 with the Rush Hour Expansion Pack: Windows/Linux (via WINE): Any digital retail edition, or any disc copy updated to at least Version 1.1.638. macOS: Any recent digital edition of the Aspyr port for macOS (installation on the App Store version is more difficult, and the NAM Team is limited in our capacity to provide installation help to App Store users). The now-rare non-Deluxe/non-Rush Hour copies of SimCity 4 are not supported. Attempting to run the NAM on a non-Deluxe/non-Rush Hour copy of SimCity 4 will cause the game to immediately crash to desktop (CTD). Java Runtime Environment (JRE), in order to run the installer--a version for 64-bit Windows is included in the download (OpenJDK11U-jre_x64_windows_hotspot_11.0.8_10.msi). If you are not on 64-bit Windows and need Java, Adoptium's open-source edition is recommended, though JRE and JDK can also be acquired in proprietary/commercial (but free to download) form from Oracle at Java.com. The Java Development Kit, or JDK, will also work, but contains extra files not needed unless you are a Java developer. A system with the following specs, for each basic type of NAM installation: NAM with a LowRAM/NoRHW Controller option: Any system built within the last 15 years, with 750MB available disk space. (Users running this option cannot install the RealHighway (RHW) features.) NAM with a Full 4GB Controller option: Any system with a 64-bit operating system, at least 4GB RAM, and 1.2GB available disk space. If on Windows, the 4GB Patch must be applied to the game's executable. NOTE: Installing the Full 4GB Controller option without meeting the specifications and without the 4GB Patch will cause the game to crash-to-desktop (CTD) upon attempting to load a city. If you experience this crash, it either means your system does not support the Full 4GB Controller option, or there was some form of failure in the 4GB Patch process. Additional Requirement on Windows/Linux (if running Full 4GB Controller/RealHighway options) (not required on Mac): 4GB Patch by NTCore (included in download, automatically installed on Windows with standard installation procedure, and also available at NTCore). See Step 3 (under "On Windows") or the 4GB Patch section in the read-first document for more details. Additional Requirement on Mac (optional for Windows/Linux): JDatPacker by memo. JDatPacker is a tool for consolidating folders of SimCity 4 plugins. This can speed up the game's performance, and on macOS, this helps alleviate issues with the Aspyr port's known "number of files limit", wherein exceeding a certain number of files/folders within the game's Plugins directory can cause the game to crash. To install the Network Addon Mod: Install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (if already installed, skip to Step 2). (This is included in the download package.) Remove any existing NAM installations, if present (simply deleting the "a_Network Addon Mod Lite" and/or "Network Addon Mod" folder from the Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins directory is the easiest way). Run the NAM Installer: On Windows: If it your first time installing the NAM (or you are installing on a new system/with a new SC4 install), use NetworkAddonMod_Setup_Version49.bat. If you are upgrading from a previous version, or have manually installed the 4GB Patch already (see the 4GB Patch section in read-first), use NetworkAddonMod_Setup_Version49.jar. (The .bat file has a routine to automate the 4GB Patch installation process, necessary to avoid CTDs if running the Full 4GB Controller option, which is necessary to use the RealHighway (RHW) features.) On macOS: Run NetworkAddonMod_Setup_Version49.jar. If on the App Store version, the installer cannot directly install into the Plugins location the App Store version utilizes, which is inside the .app file (~/Library/Containers/com.aspyr.simcity4.appstore/Data/Documents/SimCity 4). Install to an alternate location first, then copy the resultant "Plugins" folder into that location. Note that the NAM Team is currently very limited in our ability to provide installation assistance to App Store users. On Linux: Run NetworkAddonMod_Setup_Version49.jar, or, if that fails, run NetworkAddonMod_Setup_Version49.sh. Follow the installer's instructions, clicking on each tab on the top bar in order: Agree to the mod's terms on the initial "welcome" tab to proceed with the installation. Select the options you would like to install under the "files" tab. Select the install location under the "location" tab. Unless you have set up an alternate location for your Plugins folder, or happen to be on the Mac App Store version of the game, this should work fine. Finally, move to the "install" tab. Click the "Start installation" button to begin the installation process. When the installation is complete, the progress screen will display a message, "All selected components installed!". Close the installer, using the "X" button or, on macOS, the red circular button, in the upper right corner of the window. You're all done installing the mod. Additional step for Mac users (optional on Windows/Linux): (Run JDatPacker to consolidate the mod's files.) If on the App Store version, run JDatPacker over the resultant Plugins directory, then move the "Network Addon Mod_###.dat" files (wherein "###" is a three-digit number) into the container. On the Steam version (or if optionally using JDatPacker on Windows), run JDatPacker on the Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins directory (this will also consolidate your other plugins as well). Make sure you remove the original directories that were consolidated, and, if upgrading or reinstalling your NAM package at any point, ensure you delete any the "Network Addon Mod_###.dat" files from your Plugins before running the new installation. It is recommended that you use a new subfolder (i.e. "Plugins\Compressed Files") instead of installing to the root of the Plugins directory, as this can help prevent mod conflicts. Load the game and enjoy the NAM! If the game crashes on your first attempt to load a city, this means you have the Full 4GB Controller installed, but either have experienced a failure in the 4GB Patch process, or have an incompatible system (not enough RAM and/or a 32-bit operating system). Either attempt to install the 4GB Patch manually, or choose a less intensive installation option (the Low RAM/No RHW option, or download NAM Lite instead). Note that if you've never run the NAM before, and you've picked a fuller installation option, the initial load of the game, and of the first city tile you open may be longer--often quite noticeably. This will shorten with subsequent loads of other cities, or, if you exit and re-enter the game, subsequent re-entries will be quicker. If you do not see any icons in game, this most likely means your installation ended up in the wrong location. Either reinstall, making sure the files go into your Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins folder (true of Windows and the Steam Mac version), or, if you're on the Mac App Store version, make sure you copy the files into the .app container. More details on installation and compatibility can be found in the enclosed read-first-NAM-49.html file. NAM Lite As mentioned above, an alternative compact version of the NAM is now available, which can be installed instead of the full NAM installation package. The NAM Lite features just the most essential of NAM features, including the NAM's renowned Traffic Simulator Plugins, refining SimCity 4's pathfinding engine to work as it was originally intended, along with Automata Controller options, updated textures (including a Euro/International texture option), Roundabouts, Diagonal Streets, additional interchanges for the game's base Highway system (the "Maxis Highways"), and (optional) Hole Diggers/Ground Raisers, allowing for precise terrain alteration. See here for more details and to download NAM Lite: DOCUMENTATION For further details on the NAM and its features, visit our new website at: https://www.sc4nam.com/ Please note that NAM 48 and earlier have been discontinued, and are no longer eligible for any form of technical support. Thank you all for your continued support--hope you enjoy! ©2025 NAM Team

NAM Legacy - Moonlight's Shinkansen Mod This MOD changes the appearance of the monorail network into a Japanese style Shinkansen with elevated concrete pillars. Previous versions exist, known as the Bullet Train Mod (BTM), however as of this release the name has been changed to Shinkansen Mod, to differentiate it from the older and very out of date releases. Installation The Shinkansen mod comes in a self-contained .exe Installer application, simply double click (run) the installer to begin. After agreeing to the terms and conditions, you will be presented with a number of options, see Optional Selections below for more information about these. It is highly recommended that you do not change the default install path for this mod, unless you really know what you are doing. It must load after the NAM folder Network Addon Mod in Plugins, otherwise some models may retain the original Monorail style. Be aware that T21s (props), are applied to networks as they are built, this means that Catenaries, Fences, Pillars and other items will not appear on existing sections of the Monorail network. However, the base models will automatically change when this mod is present. If you have pre-existing Monorail networks, to refresh the T21s, it is necessary to do 2 things: Click or Drag all affected Draggable sections of the Monorail. Demolish and Rebuild all puzzle pieces, including WRCs, L4 (High Elevated) Monorail and Bridges. Note: This installer was built using NSIS and is basically a compressed file format, much like a .zip file, which can be easily opened with 7z to view and extract the files within. Users of Linux, MacOS or those not wishing to use an installer program, are free to manually extract the files and setup the mod. However, for the simplest possible experience for the majority of users, it is recommended to use the included installer. All files are named such that they can reside in the same folder without load order issues. Additionally, it should be noted that the installer's only function is to install the files for the mod and this readme file, it does not otherwise alter anything on your system. Uninstallation If you want to remove this mod, you can just delete the entire ML Shinkansen Mod folder where it was installed, by default this would be: Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins/zLoadAfterNAM Note: The same rules apply to any T21s if you use, but subsequently remove this mod, it may be necessary to refresh the Monorail network to reflect the change. Optional Selections During installation, you are able to select a number of optional components, what these do is explained in more detail here. Shinkansen N700 Automata Select this option if you want to replace the current Monorail Train (known as Automata), with a Shinkansen themed one. Ground Fence If you select Ground Fence, then you will see fencing surrounding the Shinkansen network, as is typical in Japan. Ground Texture Select if you would like to see the ground textures under the Shinkansen network. Concrete Style Select between the following two styles for the overall look of the Shinkansen network: Cool Hue and Warm Hue Crosslinks These options allow you to use the Shinkansen mod in conjunction with other mods, whilst retaining the look of both. NAM Maxis Highway Override If you selected the MHO when installing NAM, you should select this option. Do not select this option if you are using the original Maxis Highway (MHY). Moonlight's El Rail Mod Only install this if you also use Moonlight's Japanese El-Rail mod. NAM RHW C Double Barrier (Legacy NAM Style) The option exists for RHW C networks to show the older NAM style with double central concrete barriers, users of this Legacy NAM style can select this so Shinkansen crossings will match your setup. If you are unsure which, if any of these crosslinks to select, then most likely you do not need any of them. Since none of these selections would be installed by default. Optional Catenary Mod The Shinkansen mod always supported Catenaries, but requires both the Exemplar files and Models in order to see them on the Shinkansen network. When selecting to install this option, only the Exemplars are installed, in order to see them and avoid brown boxes, make sure you have downloaded and installed Plundere's Catenary Essentials which contains the actual catenary models. Note: that if combined with Rivit's RUM for RRW, particularly the file H__Faded Catenary.dat, that the appearance of the catenaries will be altered as shown here. Without this additional, but highly recommended addition, the catenary models will appear brighter. Bridge and Tunnel Support The Shinkansen mod now includes support for all six Monorail bridges included in the NAM: Level Bridge Level 30m Bridge (for Elevated Monorail) Y-Pier Bridge AIT Bridge Cable Stayed Bridge Putyrajuya Suspension Bridge (shown below) Likewise the original Monorail tunnels are supported by the included re-skinned tunnel portal. To help you distinguish Shinkansen Mod compatible bridges from other types, such as HSR bridges, all those supported by this mod have the label Shinkansen upon them on the bridge selection window. Known Issues There are a number of issues that as of this release remain either unfixed or unfixable. Overhanging Networks Certain networks in game rely on overhanging pieces, in other words do not fit on their own tile's footprint. Examples of this include the NWM ARD-3 and RHW-6S networks. This creates problems for Shinkansen crossing pieces, the models needed for which must be inside the tiles of the actual junction. In some cases crossings for these networks will be missing wall supports, pillars or ground fencing, in order to avoid blocking the roadway. In some cases however, this is simply unavoidable. L3 RHW over L2 Monorail Uniquely, L3 RHW networks that cross over the Shinkansen, are not high enough such that any Catenaries will appear through the roadway. This looks terrible and so for all such crossings, Catenaries were removed when they would cause this issue to appear. As a result they are missing, but we all know they are anchored to the bottom of the roadway, even if you can't see them. General T21 Problems T21s will sometimes not appear in certain situations and at present it is not clear why. For example fencing on some of the WRCs may only appear in certain rotations. Some legacy Puzzle pieces just never show the T21s as intended, again there is no obvious reason why. As a rule, support for both Shinkansen skinned models and the T21 mod's various props is >99% complete however. Credits Moonlight The original creator of the Shinkansen Mod, who's works are contained in this package. MGB Updated the RHW crossings to Project 51 standards, in addition to adding compatibility up to version 49 of the NAM. NAM Legacy Support Policy NAM Legacy files are released so that the community retains access to what are otherwise legacy mods. This means that they are not necessarily being actively maintained, unlike the core NAM project itself. In practical terms that means that regular updates can not be relied upon, although it may happen from time to time. However for the most part this mod is released as-is and there is a possibility of bugs or incompatibilities with current NAM releases.

New_Properties.xml is the file that contains all the prorpeity definitions used in the exemplar and cohort files of SimCity 4. The file contains the algorithms for generating the statistics for the various lots Features New_Properties.xml is an XML file that is used by the modding tools of PIM-X and ILives Reader in reading all propieties of SimCity 4 exemplars. For this reason this file is essential in reading and creating the exemplar files The file contains all the algorithms used to calculate building statistics (Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Civic and Utility) as well as generate TE (Transit Enable) switches and calculate station capacity. The file contains all the Occupant Groups that Maxis and BSC Team have developed allowing for better lot management. Because of the uniqueness of the file, new properties can be generated that the game can read using Mod DLLs and it also allows the identification of the IIDs of the prorpieties that can be used for any LUA codes to be used in the game. Differences from the New_Properties.xml-patches version This version does not include many of the advanced features found in the The main differences are Public services (Education, Healthcare, Safety) have values that are half those of Maxis, forcing the player to build more civic buildings in line with the BSC Team vision. The New_Properties.xml-patches version has values four times those of the BSC Team and twice those of Maxis. Delay in updating this version with new buildings and patches compared to the New_Properties.xml-patches version Except for these two differences, the two versions have the same patches, additional buildings, and additional properties created by the DLL Mods We strongly recommend choosing the right version for your modding project. As a general rule, New_Property.xml -> Recommended for a vanilla or hybrid vanilla experience New_Properties.xml-patches -> Recommended for a CAM experience (CAM, CAM-SPAM, and CAM-Vanilla) or a hybrid experience Installation The file must be installed by following precise instructions according to the program it is to read OLD PIM-X (Note: The old PIM-X is being phased out. We recommend using the new PIM-X.) New_Properties.xml should be installed in the PIM-X installation folder (generally the installation folder is this) C:\Program Files (x86)\SC4PIM NEW PIM-X New_Properties.xml must be installed in the following folder %APPDATA%\sc4pimx\ Ilives - Reader (1.5.4) New_Properties.xml should be installed in the Reader installation folder C:\Program Files (x86)\ILives\ILives Reader Ilives - Reader (0.9.3) This version of Reader does not use New_Properties.xml but tropod_Properties.xml. tropod_Properties.xml should be installed in the Reader installation folder (generally the installation folder is this) C:\Program Files (x86)\ILives\ilive_reader093

Network Addon Mod Lite (NAM Lite) is a transportation mod for SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition (or SimCity 4 with the Rush Hour Expansion Pack), now offered as a standalone download. PLEASE NOTE: This mod includes files that will remove game water and flattens roads. They are intended for temporary use. Please read the Readme documentation for more details, and refrain from asking "where's my water?" or "why are my roads flat?" or other such questions. Version 1 (Cross-Platform) The NAM Diagonal Bridge Enabler is a mod intended for advanced users, containing a special "temporary" file, modifying the game's transit network slope and terrain parameters to allow for the construction of otherwise impossible diagonal bridges, coupled with starter pieces enabling several different styles of diagonal bridges. The Diagonal Bridge Enabler contains just two file: the main file DiagonalBridgeEnabler.dat, and DiagonalBridgeEnabler_Locale_english.dat (which contains description strings for pieces and menu icons). There are temporary files designed only to be used when you wish to construct diagonal bridges--it is recommended you take the entire ~Diagonal Bridge Enabler (Temporary Files) folder and drop it into your Plugins, and remove the folder when you are finished constructing your diagonal bridges. The file does the following: Upon opening your city tile with the ~Diagonal Bridge Enabler folder installed, you will notice all game water has been drained from the map, and your terrain will have dramatically shifted color (with default Maxis terrain, it will appear that your city is now in a desert). If you attempt to drag the Road, One-Way Road, Rail or RealHighway networks, you will notice that they stay on a level plane and can be dragged across the chasms where the waterways once were in your city. You can use this to create diagonal, curving and even neighbor connecting bridges with these networks with Maxis' default pylons (see here for more information). Removing the temporary files when you are done will restore the terrain, refill your bodies of water, and return network slopes to their regular setting (either the defaults or whatever slope mod you may have installed). However, these default pylon bridges may leave something to be desired from a visual, aesthetic standpoint. Thus, the DBE also enables a set of options, designed to emulate the look and feel of traditional SC4 water bridges, including draggable bridges for Road, One-Way Road, Rail, Avenue and Maxis Highway networks, and a series of modular truss bridge puzzle pieces. It is strongly recommended that you read the Readme Documentation in order to understand how to use this plugin. DEPENDENCIES NAM Version 30 with Essentials r132 (or later) RealHighway Version 5.0 (or later)--required to use Avenue and Maxis Highway Bridges (as the techniques used here do not work natively with dual-tile networks) As this plugin involves the use of temporary files to be added and removed from the Plugins folder, the DBE is a manual-install plugin, with no installer included. The same file works for both Windows and MacOS systems (as well as Linux). For Windows users, the Diagonal Bridge Enabler DLL Toggler by Blue Lightning is also recommended, as it will make the DBE vastly easier to use. Lowers the sea level to 0, effectively draining any in-game bodies of water in an opened city. Forces the Road, One-Way Road, Rail and RealHighway networks to be completely level, allowing them to be dragged across the drained bodies of water. Enables buttons in the Roads and Rails menus containing draggable Diagonal Bridge starter pieces and Waterbridge Viaduct puzzle pieces. Adds pylon exemplars to the Rail and RealHighway networks.

The Park And Ride Traffic Simulator Plugins are modified versions of the NAM's latest and greatest Simulator Z 3.0 Traffic Simulator Plugins (last updated with NAM 45), with one key difference: the Car transit type has its "Travel type can reach destination" property set to "False". This means that Cars cannot directly reach their destination, thereby requiring Sims to use Parking Garages or Parking Lots, or use alternative forms of transportation, like mass transit or active transit (walking) to reach it instead. All NAM Park And Ride Traffic Simulator Plugins are labeled as "Simulator ZP" to distinguish them from the standard, non-Park And Ride Simulator Z files in the NAM. While this package can technically act as a standalone, we recommend using it with either the full Network Addon Mod or NAM Lite, to have a fuller SC4 transportation experience. IMPORTANT! Installing this Plugin but failing to provide parking or alternative forms of transportation may lead to significant changes in the behavior of existing cities, so one should either take care to retrofit those existing cities with the necessary infrastructure (parking lots and/or mass transit), or one should consider starting a new city/region. Further details on the operation of the standard edition of the NAM Traffic Simulator Plugins, including more information regarding capacity levels, network/transit type speeds, and other details can be found in the official feature guide at sc4nam.com. Compatibility and Installation (Short Version) The minimum requirements for running the NAM Park And Ride Traffic Simulator Plugins are as follows: A compatible retail copy of SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition OR SimCity 4 with the Rush Hour Expansion Pack Windows/Linux (via WINE): Any digital retail edition, or any disc copy updated to at least Version 1.1.638. macOS: Any recent digital edition of the Aspyr port for macOS (installation on the App Store version is more difficult, and the NAM Team is limited in our capacity to provide installation help to App Store users). The now-rare non-Deluxe/non-Rush Hour copies of SimCity 4 are not supported. Attempting to run the NAM Park And Ride Simulators on a non-Deluxe/non-Rush Hour copy of SimCity 4 will cause the game to immediately crash to desktop (CTD). Run the NAM Park And Ride Traffic Simulator Plugins Installer (NetworkAddonMod_ParkAndRideSimulators_Setup_Version1.jar). Follow the installer's instructions, clicking on each tab on the top bar in order. Agree to the mod's terms on the initial "welcome" tab to proceed with the installation. select the options you would like to install under the "files" tab. Select the install location under the "location" tab. Unless you have set up an alternate location for your Plugins folder, or happen to be on the Mac App Store version of the game, this should Use the "setup" tab and run the "cleanup" feature to remove any conflicting Traffic Simulator Plugins (NAM or otherwise), such that the Park And Ride settings are applied in game. Load the game and enjoy the NAM! Manual Installation - Advanced Users who are unable or unwilling to install Java can perform a manual installation of the NAM, something which the new file architecture introduced in 2020 makes far more possible than the previous "Monolithic" releases. This method requires a file decompression tool capable of opening .jar files, such as 7-zip (Windows) or Keka (macOS). To begin, open NetworkAddonMod_ParkAndRideSimulators_Setup_Version1.jar using your file decompression tool. The Park And Ride Simulator contents are located in the "installation" subfolder. The current installer uses a series of character flags at the start of directory names, in order to instruct the installer how to order the options, whether they're mandatory or optional, etc. Numbers preceded by the at sign ("@"), i.e. "@1", "@2", etc., are merely being ordered with this flag. Any directory with the caret ("^") in front of the name (or behind a "@" ordering flag) is mandatory. Any options where the equal sign ("=") and the dash ("-") are present are mutually exclusive--only one should be installed (the "=" option is the default). Remove any existing Traffic Simulator Plugins from your Plugins folder first, then copy the desired capacity level (Classic, Low, Medium, High, or Ultra) into your Plugins folder. The cleanup.txt file in the root of the .jar file can provide you with a list of conflicting file names. DO NOT INSTALL MORE THAN ONE OPTION. A Note Regarding The Former Traffic Simulator Configuration Tool (TSCT) The NAM's Traffic Simulator Configuration Tool (TSCT), first introduced alongside NAM 31 in March 2013, was officially discontinued with the introduction of Simulator Z 3.0 in NAM 45, released in September 2022. Further research conducted on the traffic simulator by z resulted in discoveries that some of the simulator parameters that had been modifiable in the TSCT, such as network capacities, were far more sensitive than previously thought, and that use of the TSCT could significantly degrade simulator performance to unacceptable levels. The tool also required significant reprogramming, as a number of features with it did not work as intended, and there were also difficulties with being able to recompile it from the source code that was available. The settings modifications to create Park And Ride options do not degrade NAM simulator performance, and as such, this package exists to make up for the fact TSCT had been the easiest way for the average user to use the Park And Ride settings for the simulator. Previous efforts to include Park And Ride options in the NAM installer itself resulted in a number of users complaining after accidentally installing Park And Ride simulators, which led to their relegation to the "Park And Ride" checkbox in the TSCT. The only other simulator parameters that are safe to modify from the out-of-the-box NAM settings are the Monthly Fares per Sim per Tile and Monthly Costs per Network Tile properties. As the TSCT is officially discontinued, given that it modifies parameters that degrade the NAM's Traffic Simulator, no technical support will be provided to users who still utilize it. Other modifications to the NAM Traffic Simulator's settings performed with other tools besides the TSCT are also at the user's own risk, and the NAM Team cannot provide technical support, nor will the team assume any responsibility for any resultant issues. More details about decision to discontinue the TSCT, on a property-by-property basis, can be found in the Traffic Simulator Features Guide at sc4nam.com. Distribution and Old Versions The NAM Team only provides support and allows distribution of the most recent NAM version. The same is true of the NAM Park And Ride Traffic Simulator Plugins. Users wishing to hold onto old versions should back them up in their personal archives. Note again that no technical support will be provided for this, nor may any user or site redistribute any old versions. 9. NAM 36 Now Available

The NAM Team is pleased to announce the official release of the 36th edition of the Network Addon Mod, NAM 36. This release was ten months in the making, and marks the debut of a few long-awaited features. New features in NAM Version 36 - 13 September 2017 New FLEX Turn Lanes (FTL) feature added, providing a more intuitive and flexible alternative to the old Turn Lane Extension Pieces (TuLEPs, now deprecated). Draggable Elevated RealRailway (RRW) viaducts added at L1 (7.5 meter) and L2 (15 meter) heights. One-Way Road Signalized Intersection and Turn Arrow Project (SITAP) expanded to cover intersections with FLEX Turn Lanes and Road-based multi-tile NWM networks. Street Addon Mod (SAM) Set 11 - IndustrieSAM by mgb204 added, providing a new, industrial-style Street texture. Draggable Wide-Radius Curve functionality added to all applicable Street Addon Mod (SAM) override networks. RealRailway (RRW) FlexTrack functionality expanded to cover additional setups. R5 radius Multi-Radius Curves (MRCs) added to the Road network. Diagonal FLEX On-Slope Transitions added to the RHW, supporting 1 and 2-level transitions for the RHW-2, RHW-4, and MIS networks. R4 and R5 radii Multi-Radius Curves (MRCs) added to the RealHighway (RHW) system, with support for the L0 RHW-2, L0 RHW-4, and L0 RHW-6S netwoks. Overlap ability also added to the ground-level R2 curves for the RHW, allowing for smoother loop ramps. Diagonal MIS Connection support added to the One-Way Road Roundabouts. Texture glitch fixed with the Euro version of the L1-L4 RHW-6S Type A2 FLEXRamps/DRIs. Minor pathing fix to improve zone access on the TLA-7 network in the Network Widening Mod (NWM). The compression scheme on the NAM Installer has been changed, making it such that the external 7-Zip SFX layer surrounding it is no longer needed. New edition of the NAM documentation started, marking a return to the HTML format used prior to the NAM 31.x releases of 2013. Please note that due to the incredible scope of the mod, and the amount of time to adequately document features, that some sections may remain in an incomplete state. The Windows version of the mod is available here on the STEX (and is hosted directly on the site once again, thanks to the benevolent @Dirktator): NAM 36 for Windows [STEX] The Windows version will be mirrored at SC4 Devotion and ModDB. The Mac version will only be available at ModDB, due to its filesize (686MB). For more details on the release, including information on compatibility and installation, see the Read First document included in the package, which is also attached below. Hope you enjoy the latest update to this long running mod (over 13 years and counting!) and thank you for your continued support. -The NAM Team read-first-nam36.zip
  10. NAM 36 (Windows version) now hosted directly on the STEX, thanks to the benevolent @Dirktator!

  11. Looking for a last-minute stocking stuffer?  NAM 34 is now on the STEX!

  12. NAM 34 is now available! See here for more info... https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/69569-nam-34-now-available/ The NAM Team is pleased to announce the official release of the 33rd edition of the Network Addon Mod, NAM 33. Availability NAM 33 is hosted here at Simtropolis, on the STEX, and is also available at SC4 Devotion, and ModDB. Download Link STEX (Windows) Additional Mirrors ModDB SC4 Devotion LEX Note: Support for Mac OS X is presently on hiatus, in part due to changes Apple made to the latest version of OS X, El Capitan (10.11). NAM 32.1 will remain available for Mac users in the interim, but with NAM 32's Windows release no longer being supported, and no active Mac users on the NAM Team as of writing, support will be extremely limited. Installation Instructions For Windows users: To install NAM 33, first run the self-extractor (NetworkAddonMod Setup 33 SFX.exe) to extract the installer, and THEN locate and run the installer (NetworkAddonMod Setup 33.exe), which should be located in the same directory by default. The reason for the extra layer of self-extraction is designed to reduce the size of the download (260MB vs. 1GB) while also allowing the installer to run faster. Simply running the Self-Extractor will not install the NAM, nor will sticking the files directly into your Plugins folder. For Mac OS X users: There is presently no OS X version of NAM 33. See note above. Support As the NAM is very much a forward-looking project, NAM 33 is presently the only fully-supported NAM version. The Mac-only NAM 32.1 release will remain available in the interim, but with extremely limited support, as previously noted. All other old NAM versions, including the NAM 33 Pre-Release, NAM 32, and earlier, are no longer supported and will no longer be distributed. Documentation is included, though much of it has not been updated since the 2013 release of NAM 31.2. Note that some features have changed since this documentation was written. and new features may still require additional documentation. Some video tutorials of new functionality will be available, however. We are transitioning toward more flexible means of documentation to combat this backlog, using a new section of the SC4 Encylcopaedia Wiki at SC4 Devotion, and apologize for any inconvenience in the meanwhile. Technical Requirements NAM 33, as per standard NAM Team specifications, is packaged in using the Nullsoft Installer System (NSIS), and is designed for use with Windows version of SimCity 4 Deluxe, though it is also compatible with Linux, provided one is using WINE. The minimum configuration required to run the Network Addon Mod (NAM) with SimCity 4 is the same minimum configuration required to run SimCity 4 itself. Either the original version of SimCity 4 in combination with the Rush Hour expansion pack, or the combination version included in SimCity 4 Deluxe is required. Both are equivalent. In any case, the EP1 patch that brings the version number up to 1.1.638.0 is required. Digital versions of the game, including those provided by Steam, Origin, and GOG.com, should be pre-patched to 1.1.641, and do not require patching. If your game is not up to date, the NAM installer will guide you through the installation of that official patch. You must also have a valid game configuration. If you have simply installed the game from a valid CD or from an authorized download, there will be no problems. However, it is important that the game’s file name not be changed from “SimCity 4.exe”. Modified executables, including "no CD" patches, will not be recognized by the installer as valid installations, and thus, the NAM cannot be installed in such cases. Note that with the minimum configuration, or something close to it, it will not be possible to use most of the NAM. The Traffic Simulator and its associated files can definitely be used, as these take up a very small amount of space and merely replace existing data in the game. The game will work much better simply with the addition of the NAM Traffic Simulator. However, although the extra efficiency of the NAM Traffic Simulator allows you to build bigger functional cities, the speed of your game will likely slow to a crawl as the size of your cities increases. The reason is that the CPU time required by the traffic simulator grows exponentially with the size of your city. This is true of the Maxis Traffic Simulator as well (both traffic simulators use the same software engine), but it is much more difficult to build successful large cities with the Maxis Traffic Simulator, so this problem is seen less frequently there. For further information, please read the Information Page on the NAM 33 installer. Note to Left-Hand Drive (LHD) Users Due to the fact that very few NAM Team members run the game in Left-Hand Drive (LHD) mode, where vehicles drive on the left (as in the United Kingdom, Japan, etc.), support for LHD mode may be more limited than that of Right-Hand Drive (RHD) mode, especially with newer features. Thus, feedback and issue reporting from LHD users is especially appreciated, and will help the team ensure the best possible LHD support. NOTE: The NAM does not change drive side. Unless one has a clear idea of the consequences, do not attempt to change the drive side options in the installer, as all those will do is simply give one a broken NAM installation without actually changing one's drive side. Brief Overview of New Features Changes in the NAM 33 Pre-Release: Massive update to the Draggable Ramp Interface (DRI) and FLEXRamp systems in the RealHighway (RHW) Mod. 90% of all previous static puzzle piece ramps have been given easier-to-use FLEX and/or draggable counterparts, and a plethora of new ramp interfaces for elevated RHW networks are now available, Wealth textures are included for ground level versions. The RHW FLEXFly system has been completely overhauled, and now includes 90-degree and 45-degree versions, in single and dual-lane configurations, at Ground Level (L0), 7.5m (L1), and 15m (L2) heights. The double-decker RHW-4 (DDRHW-4) has been lowered one level (from L2/L3 to L1/L2), increasing ease of use. Disconnector added, to simplify demolition of FLEX-based RHW pieces. Multi-Radius Curves (MRCs), in both draggable and FLEX form, have been added to the RealHighway Mod, in three different radii, for the RHW-2, MIS, RHW-4, and RHW-6S. Stability improvements to the FLEX Height Transitions. Major improvements to the RealRailway (RRW) plugin, which now supports most crossings. Transit station functionality and compatibility has been further improved. Minor fixes to other NAM components. Further changes in the NAM 33 official release: A couple surprises: The RealRailway (RRW) FlexTrack system makes an earlier-than-expected debut. See the FlexTrack User's Guide in the Documentation folder for more details. PedMall functionality greatly enhanced with the addition of access paths to most non-Highway-type road networks, including NWM networks and Tram/El-Rail Dual-Networking items. Pedestrians may now directly access the PedMalls from these other networks without the need of a station or other transit-enabled lot/switch. Many custom bridges that previously blocked all ferry traffic have now been corrected. MandelSoft's previous RHW texture sets, including Euro, Ontario, and Irish/South African textures, have been discontinued. A new standard Euro RHW set, based on the default US set, has been added as a replacement, and adds compatibility for all current RHW features. An issue with the NAM 33 Pre-Release in which the Controller Compiler would fail due to an XML read error has been fixed. Several overhanging texture issues with the new RHW ramp interfaces have been corrected. The R3 FLEX-Multi Radius Curve now rotates fully as intended. A number of Left-Hand Drive transit path file issues across the entire mod have been added or corrected for proper functionality. The NAM Team would like to thank the entire SimCity 4 community for its continued support over the past 11 years, and we hope you enjoy the new NAM 33 release. We would especially like to extend its sincere thanks to all the members of the community who helped test the NAM 33 Pre-Release, offering feedback and helping us locate and solve bugs.
  13. NAM 33 download all good to go on the STEX.  Thanks to the benevolent Dirktator for his help!

  14. Edit: Available again, after getting the correct controller in place. Thank you for your patience. In honor of the 11th anniversary of SimCity 4's release, the NAM Team is pleased to announce the arrival of the full release of the 32nd edition of the NAM, NAM 32. New features in Version 32--January 14, 2014 NAM 32 is a full package, which improves upon the earlier NAM 31.2 release and NAM 32 Pre-Release. Note that the NAM requires a retail copy (disc or digital) of SimCity 4 Deluxe to run. The NAM Elevated Viaducts for Roads, One-Way Roads, and Avenues are now available in a draggable form, at both Level 1 (7.5 meter) and Level 2 (15 meter) heights, complete with FLEX Height and On-Slope transitions. Overpass situations involving one or more diagonal networks are not yet supported, and will not be available until a future NAM release after Version 32. Elevated Rail-over-Avenue and Elevated Rail-over-NWM Road-4 dual-networking support has been added, complete with a new station supporting both networks. The initial phases of the RealRailway (RRW) system have been added. This feature must be selected as part of a custom install. The RealHighway (RHW) system has been expanded to include the QuickChange interchange system, which blends the RHW's modularity with the ease of Maxis Highway construction techniques for certain situations, which will be expanded in future NAM releases. Additionally, several new types of FLEXRamps are available--please read the instructions in the description text. FLEX Transitions have also been given stability improvements for certain situations. Coupled with the RHW system, the NAM now offers Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) functionality, including stations. Transit station functionality has been further improved, including the beginning of the implementation of the SLURP, which will gradually raise all transit stations to NAM standards. The NAM Controller Compiler has been included with the installer, with which it now communicates, ensuring that only the installed features are incorporated into the NAM Controller, reducing file size and load times. About 50 bugs reported since the start of the NAM 32 Pre-Release have also been squished, including some that had been present since earlier versions of the NAM. It is highly recommended that users update to the latest NAM in order to enjoy a more stable experience. Installing over previous versions: NAM 32 may be installed directly over top of any previous NAM releases. It is a full release, not a patch or a hotfix. All future updates are planned to be in full package form, and there are no plans to issue patches or hotfixes in the future. Please also note that the NAM Team only provides technical support for the most recent version, which, as of this document, is NAM 32. We cannot assist users of the NAM 32 Pre-Release, NAM 31.x-series release, or earlier. Special Thanks: The NAM Team would like to extend its sincere thanks to all the members of the community who helped test the NAM 32 Pre-Release, offering feedback and helping us locate and solve bugs.
  15. NAM for Mac Is Back

The wait is finally over. The NAM is officially back on the Mac, with the release of NAM 32.1. And for the first time, it includes an installer, providing a similar user experience to what our Windows installer package has offered. The changes included in NAM 32.1 are specific to ensuring compatibility with the 2014 Aspyr re-release of the Mac OS X port of SimCity 4 Deluxe, on the Mac App Store and Steam: Exemplar encoding has been fixed, effectively solving the crash-to-desktop (CTD) issues that have existed on the Mac port since Apple's removal of Rosetta in OS X Lion (10.7). Adds transit network paths that were missing in the Aspyr release. Includes an installer for the first time. NAM 32.1 is a Mac-only release, and all the changes to the package are aimed at ensuring compatibility with the Aspyr port. No other features have been added, making a NAM 32.1 release unnecessary for Windows. In order to open the NAM for Mac installer, you will need to acquire a file decompression tool capable of handling 7-zip (.7z) files, such as Keka or The UnArchiver. We have used 7-zip because of its use of LZMA compression, allowing the file to be hundreds of megabytes smaller. The package contains a "READ FIRST" .txt file that will further instruct you as to installation. A few other items of note: As the installer package is basically the Windows installer running in a Wineskin wrapper, it is unable to detect Java, and by default, cannot run the Controller Compiler. You will encounter a pop-up dialog box informing you of this while the files are installing. The installer is designed to install the full NAM Controller as a failsafe. Testing results have shown that the full controller has much less of a performance impact on the Aspyr port than on the Windows version, but if you would like to run the compiler, it is possible to do so manually. The "READ FIRST" document details this information. The Aspyr re-release is known to have a quirk in which the number of files (not their size) contained in the Plugins folder can cause crashes to desktop. This issue is inexplicably triggered with a much lower number of files if the user is running the game while not connected to the internet. To avoid these crashes, we recommend that the user use a tool like the cross-platform JDatPacker in order to combine the NAM files. Further instructions are included in the "READ FIRST" document. Special thanks to memo from the NAM Team for spearheading this compatibility effort, and to Jonathan, Sabretooth78, and TEG24601 for testing and feedback. The team would like to thank the Mac userbase for their patience, and we hope you enjoy this new package. -------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------

  17. The Future of the NAM on OS X

UPDATE - July 28, 2014 The NAM has returned to the Mac. With the release of NAM 31 fast approaching, we'd like to update the Mac community at Simtropolis about the future of the NAM on MacOS. As many of you may know, the NAM has difficulty running natively on newer versions of OS X, beginning with Lion (10.7), due to the removal of Rosetta support. This omission prevents PowerPC-era apps like the Mac port of SimCity 4 from running on newer versions of OS X, without the installation of Aspyr's Universal Binary Patch, which has a number of quirks and instabilities, leading to inexplicable crash-to-desktop situations with seemingly unrelated combinations of NAM Plugins installed. We remain unable to solve this issue. Additionally, as NAM 31 will mark a return to a "Monolithic" release paradigm, in which virtually all of the current separate-download plugins (e.g. RealHighway, Network Widening Mod, etc.) will be rolled into a single package with all of the "core" features, our releases will have much larger filesizes, such that the simple .zip folders in which we've traditionally released OS X versions of the NAM will become especially unwieldy in distribution. To this effect, here is our new policy with respect to the NAM on OS X, with respect to the NAM 31 release, and until further notice: The NAM Team is unable to provide technical support to users attempting to run the game natively on OS X 10.7 (Lion) or later, or otherwise using the Aspyr Universal Binary patch. As mentioned before, we have no solution, or even a hint of how to solve the related issues, and the Universal Binary patch introduces other quirks and instabilities into the game. Use the NAM on OS X 10.7 and later, and with the Universal Binary patch, at your own risk. The NAM Team will continue to offer support to those running OS X 10.6 or earlier without the Universal Binary, or using a dual-boot or emulation/kernel-layer system to run the Windows version of SimCity 4 on their Mac. The NAM for MacOS .zip download will be discontinued for NAM 31, though it will still be possible to run the NAM natively on compatible versions of OS X. There will be one, single download of the new version--the Windows installer. The Windows installer can also be run under WINE, and it is possible to extract files from the .exe using Keka, a free extraction utility. The insides of the executable in Keka will look roughly like the existing manual install .zip, though upon extraction, you will want to rename the $[65] folder to "z___NAM" for the new version. Because the compression ratio on NSIS installers is even greater than .rar files, you'll have a quicker download than you would have with the old .zip. Further details will be added as they become available.
  18. Network Addon Mod (NAM) - Cross-Platform

The NAM, in addition to being updated to Version 32, is once again available as a direct download off the STEX.  Many thanks to the Dirktator for his assistance and support.   If you experience corrupt/incomplete/interrupted downloads, we recommend attempting to obtain it from one of the other official mirrors listed on the description, and in the Download LInks file.
  19. NAM General Support

Out of curiosity, where/when did you download it? If you picked it up before about 12:30am US Pacific Standard Time (UTC-, it had some outdated RULs in it. We quickly pulled it and re-uploaded it, but a few people managed to get it before we caught that. -Tarkus (under the NAM Team account)
  20. Network Addon Mod Version 32 (Full Release) Now Available

We've temporarily pulled it--an outdated controller build sneaked in, but we caught it before it really started to circulate. It'll be back up shortly. Thank you for your patience, and apologies for the inconvenience.
  21. The NAM Team Presents... Turbo Roundabouts

A quick sneak peek of the new Turbo Roundabouts for the NAM , fresh from the presses. Here's a proof of concept in-game. Video preview made by NAM Team member Mandelsoft.
  22. Network Addon Mod (NAM) - Cross-Platform

It won't install with a cracked version.  We'd suggest picking up a fully legal version.  It's on sale from Steam for $9.99 right now, and there's other inexpensive options.
