13 pointsView Album Well, you might have gotten the feeling that the above photo-tour is somewhat... incomplete. And you are right - that city never survived... You see, it was built on the of side this guy here - Then one day I SimGod decided to unleash a little bad weather and disaster and have some fun... yeah well, that lasted until I blacked out and did something... very... VERY... wrong... So here is just a parting shot - the last we'll ever see of this once-well-to-do town...

Early in the morning you will see fishermen going out to sea in their typical boats, later returing with freshly caught fish for the local markets and restaurants. You can book a guided boat trip or even rent a boat yourself to explore the "Golfo di Castellammare". In the summer period Porto Macondo's harbor comes to life at night and the area becomes a pedestrian zone, where you can visit several bars, pubs and restaurant. Sitting on a terrace overlooking the harbor, you can enjoy a cocktail, Macondian wine, handmade ice-cream or a refreshing Macondian granita. Porto Macondo is also an excellent starting point for visiting the famous marina reserve and the Tonnara, where we organize scuba diving activities and boat trips. Arrivederci a Porto Macondo!

6 pointsHi guys! My Region of Josephinia CJ has been going on for quite a while in the CJ section now and a lot of you have been very supportive and kept me going, trying to constantly produce something that you would enjoy. That City Journal will not come to an end now. I will continue presenting you the bulk of my work in the CJ section and that blog will remain the central CJ. In working on the region and it's fairly high degree of details and (or so I hope) realism, I often find myself craving to post some visuals but way short of a good enough collection to present them in the CJ. The City of Josephinia and the surrounding region are growing constantly, but work on even just a quarter of a quad city tile can take several days to come to completion. While this compels me to keep going, I'd just like to release smaller chunks of material on a higher frequency than I can update the CJ. Thus, I hope you'll enjoy the "Genesis, Progress, Stray Pictures" thread that will contain pictures of the planning phases of new development, the construction process of new networks, compounds, zones, the nature that fills between them and the occasional polished picture of anything that comes to mind, before it makes its way to the CJ. I will update the thread more frequently than the Journal and keep you posted on the goings-on in shaping up the Josephinia Metropolitan Area. Comments are very, very welcome, no matter of which nature they are. Any input is greatly appreciated! ___________________________________________________________________________________ So then, two pictures to start the thread. We are south of Beakpoint, a southeastern suburb of Josephinia, location of the Josephinia Resources Regeneration Facility, or, alternatively, a landfill, seamed to the east by this little stream. And then I already posted this one to the "What are you working on"-thread, but it couldn't fit here any better. The current state of the core area of the region, Josephinia at center, southeast of it lies Beakpoint. Far west you can see half of Away, for those that followed the CJ for a while. I still have quite a way to go.

5 pointsToday we come to the city centre of Denairsk and this would be the second last entry for the season. We have more and longer images today so please take your time and enjoy. ======================================================== Comparing to the residential area, the urban centre of Denairsk gives a different atmosphere. There are governmental organizations, sculptures and monuments -- artifacts which are related to the Nation (and also the People, of course). Nowoivokzo A main urban centre after 'regeneration'. Gorgeous, straight and long avenues flanked with modernist buildings. Nowoivokzo Station is the landmark of this area. In general movement within the city is not restricted. However if people want to travel beyond the city, 'sensitive region' in particular, they may need special permission to do so (for security, they said). For your information, checkpoints are located on highway as well. The south end of Centralny Street has neat and uniform offices and apartments, and the station square at the north end. From the square roads radiate and expand. All this layout enhance the presence of Nowoivokzo Station and is a reminder of the great regeneration of the city. Behind the hill foot of the Station there is the Federation Building of Denairsk. This huge complex of the government represent the spirit of the Nation. Vokzorgka Vokzorgka has not been regenerate too much. What are still visible are the not-so-uniform buildings and streets. Vokzorgka still maintain its old age atmosphere. Yet everything changes in this city. Vokzorgka is currently surrounded by modern communal apartments. It has been said that old things are not rational in a city like Denairsk. In additional the Civil Works Bureau has already announced the future plan for Vokzorgka: "For the gorgeous future of all fellow citizen and the Nation, Vokzorgka will become the medical hallmark of Denairsk. New hospitals, New facilities and New department of medical training will undoubtedly bring us a healthier, more affluent and better life. Current citizens in Vokzorgka should prepare yourselves and related department would bring a more beautiful living environment for you. Thank you for all your sincere corporation for our bright future!" ======================================================== End of entry. Thanks for viewing and comments are welcomed! Also I would like to thanks all who have replied and commented on the last entry, your supports are very helpful!

4 pointsSome of you have commented on the forested areas in my journal, so here is how I currently am planting the forests in Addison County, which are somewhat stylized. First though I have to say two things: this is a technique in development, and I am much less skilled than many of our fellow journalist. So for better or worse: First I outline the area which will be covered with forest. Next I fill in the area with my base cover, leaving some "holes" for the next layer. I use SimFox Large Plain Trees. For the next layer I am using the Pacific Northwest Rain Forest plop trees, which will fill in the spaces left by the base layer of trees. You can also add some detail around the perimeter, like shrubs and fallen logs, etc. Once you have this done, and have some time, you can add in some more detail like a little pond. I hope this is helpful. You will notice some differences between city tiles that reflect the development of this method. I've had comments about my habit of using the Maxis trees, and I've realized they are quite bland, so I hope this way of creating forested areas will work out. Thanks, Dick

3 pointsReplies: Schriefer: In answer to your question; YES! And thanks for the realism remark. Markus J: This Friday I'll query the building in question (the 3 by 3 one, 30 stories high and painted black correct). Once I have a name then I can find out the link- which I'll give to you in a private message. wwetom1: MMPs are the best! 47ply: Thank you! tankmank: The lake took ages to create, there were texture setbacks, crashes and several iterations before the final product came into being. Pioneer: Thank you! coolwiththecool2: There are several things you can do to minimize the game crashing: 1. Switch off your internet connection and turn off all internet security programs; 2. Run BSC Cleanitol after adding new files to your plugins- this removes unwanted files like pictures, readmes and weblinks; 3. When zooming out, give the grid some time to update- otherwise your CPU could be overwhelmed if the plugins folder is massive; 4. When creating parts of your city, zoom reasonably close and make sure the simulation is paused; 5. To run the simulation it's best to focus on one area, this eases up on the graphical demands; 6. To move to another area then pause the game; 7. Beware of moving wide-radius and FAR transit pieces over buildings with transit networks, sometimes the cursor goes over a particular tile of the building and the game crashes. By following the steps above it is possible to have two or three hours of gameplay without crashes. That's despite having a massive plugin folder and running the game at maxed out graphical settings. Slow and steady, that's the key! So in that regard the game is not so buggy. freemunchies: Cheers! Velocity264C: Thank you. Update 10: Grendon- The Four Lakes steel mill Welcome to Grendon which is a mixture of heavy industry, concrete landscapes and some MMP work. The city of Grendon: The tour of Grendon will be completed in three or four parts, so let's get cracking! The area explored in part 1: In a feeble attempt to 'beautify' the area, the mayor of Grendon decided to add several lakes to the Eastern industrial sector. Despite all of the smog, nature is hardy and if you look hard you will clusters of poppies hither and thither. The Four Lakes; directly east of the steel mill of the same name. Designed simply to fill up the dead space between the labyrinth of railways, this attracts birds and thus birdwatchers. But some of the more enthusiastic birdwatchers came to a sticky end traversing the railways. To date about nineteen have died in the pursuit of 'twitching'. The divide between flora MMPs and concrete extender fillers is very thin indeed... Sometimes -- amongst all of the concrete -- you will find the small gravel heap or slag heap. Looks like some industries have been taking out their disregarded minerals junk for free. The Four Lakes steel mill. Giving all of the railways, you will always find a railyard for vacant trains. Because of all of the carparks and the large workplaces, pedestrian bridges are essential for workers who need to cross the dangerous A540 avenue; an avenue where drivers always go over the speed limit (a real life example of always speeding drivers would be the English city of Leeds; if the speed limit is 30 everyone is doing 45. Scary stuff!) The Simsan automobile plant. Because Simsan is the best carmaker in the Sim world (NB: this is in no way an endorsement by Grendon's mayor; who received a hefty campaign donation from Simsan) Some of the crude oil is directly transferred from the oil refinery building (just visible at the bottom left) and to the oil refinery complex; which is North-east (the oil refinery complex will be explored in part 3 of the tour). This is probably the only time Maxis elevated highways will look cool: the NAM retexturing combined with SFBT's highway fillers mod. In Grendon no area is left to waste, even below the elevated highways you will carparks and businesses. I like to place skateparks in the midst of concrete grunge... /// /// And that concludes part 1 of the tour around Grendon! Part 2 will come this Saturday.

2 pointsI been watching this development for a while now. The game is finished and due to be released February 18th. I just thought this game release deserves some front page shine here as a new member of the city building genre made by one dedicated developer. Looks very interesting.

2 pointsDouble posting. A replica of the interchange between the National Freeway No.1 and 3 in Taiwan, located near a seaport that saw its prosperity in mid 20th century. This interchange was designed as a cloverstack (correct me if Im wrong) and is heavily used by freight traffic. It's also surrounded by a river on three sides. I modified some of the ramps but most of them are close to real life. The diagonal on-slope pieces are actually road ones. http://goo.gl/1mzXth

2 pointsReplies: Schriefer: Thanks a lot! There is still so much more to do and so many more features/styles to explore. UndercoverNinja12: It's one hell of a railway station! And thanks for the FAR rail tip! The next city I'm building -- Grendon -- will make use of FAR rails! Ceafus 88: I use custom content for almost everything, I even used a no-Maxis building mod to ensure this! wwetom1: Thanks for all of that! Search for SFBT's diagonal fillers and you'll find them on the LEX; I use them a lot to pretty up diagonal transport infrastructure. Also I have got around to downloading a 'no-palm tree' mod but that was after I had completed Cranksville. But the city of Grendon won't have those pesky palm trees! tankmank: I'm mad when it comes to railways, as for the CBD- you'll see it in this update. freemunchies: I'm a slacker when it comes to the RHW and I prefer the modded Maxis highways purely for the simplicity of implementation. However in later entries I will dabble with RHW. As for the stadiums, well I downloaded ALOT of stadiums from scba: https://community.simtropolis.com/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=user_activity&search_app=downloads&mid=50924 MilitantRadical: Thanks! And thank you for that suggestion. feeroz123: Next time please could you be more specific with your requests? I don't mind requests asking for a particular building, but for ALL of the buildings in a picture? Anyway, I hope you found what you were looking for. SimRico: Thank you! Titanicbuff: 4.3GB and counting... But the amazing thing is the game's stability, it only crashes once every thirty or forty minutes! APSMS: ??? Are you saying there should have been one railway outside of the station and then have it be adjacent to the other three rails with merging pieces? _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Update 8: Cranksville- the CBD Now we tour around Cranksville's CBD in part 3 of this tour. If you're wondering why there are few captions next to the pictures, well my brother tried to commit suicide a few days ago what with a high bridge and alcohol... He's not hurt -- drunk at the time -- but right now I'm kinda out of words to say. Regardless this CJ will be continuing on and Simcity 4 is one of the few things that keeps me going. /// Here are the areas this update will explore: 1. The CBD; sorry if it's a little pixelated around the edges. Sometimes it's takes a while for the grid to display when zooming out. 2. The Western suburb. 3. The Eastern suburb- and one of Cranksville's most wealthiest. /// 1. The CBD I like to add the occasional carpark to break up the skyline, that and this is one of my favourite areas of the CBD. 2. The Western Suburb I painted a row of flowers adjacent to the avenue, just a little something to avoid having a thin row of empty squares. For some reason this apartment block's trees have purple leaves. 3. The Eastern Suburb /// /// And so concludes part 3 of the tour around Cranksville. In the final part -- due this Saturday -- we explore the last two suburbs and then a small lakeside village- there is quite a bit of MMP work and an exploration of a mod which allows you to create large bodies of water above the sea level. Looking ahead, the next two weeks will have entries concerning the industrial city of Grendon, there I will you show some heavy industry and later on a bit of dabbling with agriculture. Finally, thank you for all of the comments and advice- this has helped to mould this CJ's direction and refine my experiments with all of the custom content I've downloaded.

1 pointView Album This city is still growing in many parts, while some districts are mostly done. So our extended hike will take a few days... We start in the north-west corner with some remaining farms past the waste facility... Next time(s) we'll visit fancy eastern suburbs, small docking services, the district's huge freight truck station, dense downtown RES and COM, and some small nearby 'hamlets', all busy restaurating... and with some facilities still under construction...

1 pointHi there... welcome back! The site does have an advanced search option to the right of the search bar (it is slightly obscured by the background). This has options to search by a specific author, timeframe or file category. Enclosing a search term in "quotes" will only show exact matches. To find old BATs, probably the best way is to specify a timeframe in say 2004-2006 & selecting the appropriate category. When all else fails, Google is always there. I recommend using this method: site:community.simtropolis.com/files/ "<search term>" This will only retrieve search results that are from the STEX, and contain a matching search term. Google's advanced search also has options to customise this further. Hope this helps a bit.
-
1 pointYea it make me sad to, it's a shame we cant have something like a BAT adoption service or something so that if someone who is creating a BAT finds that they just don't have time anymore of gets tired of it, they can offer the project up for someone else to adopt so that they can finish the BAT instead and it will be uploaded for all to enjoy instead of ending up here.

1 pointThis is the northern terminus of the Central Freeway in Hedonia. To the south, the Central Freeway enters the downtown area and curves around it, becoming the Cranton Freeway as it exits the city to the west. The east-west freeway in this image is currently referred to as the Northern Transverse Connector east of the interchange; to the west the freeway remains incomplete and unnamed, but is expected to extend into the coastal area northeast of Hedonia as the suburban growth continues. This is the interchange of an interstate highway with the Anistonville Port Freeway, as originally constructed. Widening of the interstate required the demolition of the existing interchange, and in the interest of cost- and time-savings, a simple cloverleaf was constructed in its place. No doubt this interchange will be rebuilt yet again at some point in the future:

1 pointIt was so complex it required me to remove a lot of starters (which are slope-intolerant and tend to make the interchange very bulky). The steps of removing starters are inspired from Ganaram's videos. A huge thanks to Ganaram for this method.I found the slope part was most difficult at the center of the interchange. The East-South RHW-4 and MIS have to pass under (0m), then pass over (7.5m), and turn smoothly in the process. It took me half an hour just to build this part...And the highway in the east leads to a more common partial-y interchange.***Update***I have managed to lower that L2 ramp to the ground, while hightening the eastern collector lanes ramps to L1. This way it appears more realistic, as we prefer shorter, smoother slopes. And here's the updated mosaic: You, my friend, are an RHW wizard. I applaud you.

1 pointWell now i find for myself a solution with, add new texture and some blender obj export problems (smoothing edges in blender makes uv streching in simcitypak tool. The uv in blender looks very good, i dont know why looks so weird in the simcitypak tool) I use simcitypak tool 0.1.0.8 (0.2.0.0 dont works by myself) add new texture: 1. You need the InstanceID of the model that you want replace, how? http://simcitypak.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Modding%20Tutorial&referringTitle=Documentation 2. Donwload any mod example (because in this files you can change all texture, if has not take a other mod), open the file and save file as a new name 3. Reopen file and in the Panel "Files" right click on RW4 and edit TGI Information 4. Replace the InstanceID and save 5. Save Package too 6. Now you have a file with the texture channle and the InstanceID that will replace the original sim city model to the Blender problem: 1. made model with blender, uv and smoothing, too 2. export model as obj (blender export option, mark on: selection only, apply modifier, include normals, include uv, triangulate faces FORWARD "X" UP "Z" 3. import obj in maya, do nothing (obj export settings: only ON Smoothing and ON Normals ) 4. Re-export from maya as obj 5. Import mesh to Simcitypak tool now the model is created with blender, has smoothing edges and uv look correct in the simcitypak tool

1 pointBetono is technically a part of the metropolitan area of Benzihor region. Its significant is given by the geographical properties of the estuary. The history is not very long since the first settler came to the new continent in around early 1800s, but yet it gradually have evolved into a new metropolis. 2 major physical characteristics presents naturally: the Oak Hill, which is now the 'lung of the city', as well as the narrow Benzi River and the estuary to the open ocean. Development is rapid, the commercial and industrial activities are great thanks to the near by communities. The newly opened Benzi Airport brings even more people and investment into the city. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Thanks for viewing, feel free to comment and give feedback! Replies James, Forthwall: Thanks! The city itself is in its shape so it probably won't take long to document it so just sit and wait :kitty: Luiz P. Romanini : Thanks a lot! I quite like airports on reclaimed land (too bad for the real situation though) so I tried to create one this time
