Tbh I don't know of any for the Maxis rail, only for RRW.

I'd check the other four packs from @Simmer2, for RRW it is exactly what you're looking for, this one:

https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=3357

And these three could be interesting as well:

https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=3329

https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=3311

https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=3310

Oh, and I forgot: Ask @rsc204 for everything regarding textures, if one knows about these, he does! :)

EDIT: Links are to LEX, because STEX is currentlyoffline

Does anyone know if anyone as created such a thing as a train track prop? (Normal rail and not the rrw texture) The reason I ask, i'm looking to create my own rail sidings without the use of a base texture.. I've discovered that if I use the overlay without a base I get that awful graphics glitch, so i'm assuming using a prop is the only way around this to simulate the overlay texture? It's a little detail that's getting on my nerves as i've built a fairly decent amount of rail items without a base texture.. I've looked and I cannot find...any help would be appreciated

There is a prop included in my Underbridge set - Link to SC4D LEX, since STEX is currently offline - you could use for this purpose, but it's only the basic Ortho DTR tracks (file: zMGB S3D Network Props_Non-RRW.dat).

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

Thanks Guys, I found exactly what I was looking for in @Tyberius06 suggestion...

train 1.jpg

I've made the signals and the bridge into the 1 transited lot, instead of creating a lot at the side of the track.. The only thing I get is the slightly shadowed base texture which I can live with

train 2.jpg

I like to use the wide radius curves as i've made the freight train sizes slightly more realistic.. I coundn't find a good mod for the base texture of those without changing the full terrain texture, so decided to go without a base texture for the full network.. Still got a few lots in the pipeline for the network but it gives you an idea of what I was after...

Thanks all for your help :)

That could be corrected, since the usage here was not the intended one for that prop. It just requires switching off the Diffuse layer (causing it) and using a dedicated rail texture which has been colour corrected, not linking to the Maxis one.

@satria sandman Unfortunately 345 Park Avenue hasn't been available on the STEX for years. Your best bet would be to contact PBGV103 and see if he still has a copy he could send you.

I bring good news. *:)

After confirming the ID is no longer on record from the database side, I've managed to track down the missing file referenced on the blog page.

It seems like with some other files, this has seemingly long since disappeared from the STEX. Fortunately though the "NYBT 345 Park Avenue" is one created by @PBGV103 which is included on Volume 4 of the STEX Collections. I've upload this at the following link:

345 Park - LD Error Fixed.zip  (6 MB)

(This resolves a problem with the LD File present in the original, which can be downloaded here. See the posts below for more info.)

Spoiler

345 Park - Day.jpg

Description:

Another building from Midtown Manhattan.

Plop-able Commercial
$38000 plop cost
5897 high wealth jobs

Once all the current ongoing server issues are resolved, this and other missing files can prospectively be restored to the STEX. We'd then make these display under the author's account, and each ID can be switched over so original URLs would direct to every newly added file entry (e.g. in this case containing the ID of 23308).

Thanks to @markussaage for reporting the error with the LD File and @CorinaMarie for fixing it up using Reader.

By the way, Cori tells me she did receive your email from the Contact Us form, but due to the current troubles has suggested I reply here having located the file.

Be aware: the SC4.Lot file has an error, when you open it in iLive's Reader: (Internal error: DecodeLD (size > 255))

I already checked it with the original file I've found in an old backup. It has the same error. Maybe that should be fixed, before it's released to the public again?!
Loading it lot in LotEditor and save it again should do the trick to fix it here.

Kind regards!

Someone an idea, if such things have ever been made?

To give a better idea, what I'm looking for: https://www.rud.com/en/products/barriertech/rock-and-slope-stabilisation.html

I've never seen that, but it wouldn't be that hard to create if done texture-based; the downside would be that the textures are always flat. Otherwise, a batter would be needed to model the slopes.

Maybe a net/mesh overlay texture without a base texture (transparent base) could do the trick? Then you could plop the transparent lot over any existing cliff, which you'd create simply by terraforming accordingly.

Indeed a texture-based approach is the only practical solution, because it's the only way to adapt to the terrain. That means you'd have to use a 2D rock texture which gives a 3D effect, with either a separate or combined netting texture.

Whilst you could model such a thing and it would in all fairness look a lot better, models can't conform well to slopes. So such a model made for one incline, may look horrible on a different one and in short would be horribly inflexible to use.

@paddy0174 My suggestion: This plugin contains a few sets of slope retaining walls. One of them looks like a grassy slope reinforced by concrete beams. Since it is texture-based, it won't make much sense to use them for cliffsides (you can place them but they will still look like grass and concrete beams).

As a matter of fact, I do. *:) It's Ympyratalo, originally modeled by prepo. Here's a download link to a version modded and lotted by Bongoswimp.

Finally, I could post my answer to this thread :) Sorry, it took me so long, but these errors in the last week...

Thanks you all for your answers!

@matias93, @T Wrecks, @rsc204

Seems to be the best way to do it texture based. I will try, but I haven't used GIMP a lot lately... You will see my progress in a seperate thread.... :D

@tariely, @11241036

Thanks, I know these packs, in fact I'm using them, but it's not what I'm looking for here. :)

Oooooh, good that you remind me! I'm currently piecing together a new plugins folder and had totally forgotten about these beauties. Here they are. *:)

Ahem... anyway, I'm already done with the single-tile wide rowhouse department for my plugins - only North American stuff for the Chicago 1890 and NY 1940 tilesets. I settled with the following 16 options, in case you are interested:

  • Scuttlebutt Row, by SimGoober
  • Sardina Row, by SimGoober
  • Greek Revival Tenements, by C.P. (SC4Devotion) [slope-friendly]
  • Ghetto Pack Vol.1, by Tag_One
  • Hamilton House, by Tag_One [slope-friendly]
  • Low Rent Walkups, by Don Miguel
  • Rowhouse Set, by Ceafus_88
  • Apartment Blocks, by SimGoober
  • Church Street Apartment, by spa
  • Castiron Lofts, by Don Miguel
  • Halifax Boxes, by spa
  • BSP Hamilton Arms, by nofunk (corner lot)
  • NYBT 32-48 30th Street, by Aaron_Graham
  • NYBT Tapscott Houses, by Aaron_Graham
  • Rowhouses, by nofunk
  • Townhouse, by Don Miguel

These are all top notch IMO. The authors featured in that list all have more interesting stuff, too - you may want to scour the STEX and LEX for their uploads. It's past midnight and I'm too tired to dig out the links right now, but if you have trouble finding any of these, just let me know and I'll look.

Can you recommend any generic park, plaza or beautification filler mod lots that fit in well with the vanilla graphics of the game and use a minimum of dependencies (other mods on which they depend)?

For parks and fillers that are generic and light on dependencies, I'd recommend the SFBT Park sets. They come in three variations for low, medium, and high wealth, and they only require the SFBT Essentials and nothing else. They are modular, and especially the medium and high wealth sets can be used to complement in-game lots because they use the same driveway textures. Placement indicators show what you are about to plop when you have the lot on your mouse cursor so you won't have to wonder which way a path curve will turn (the indicators vanish after a short while and never appear again).

The trees can optionally be overridden by a tree mod if you decide to use one. [shameless self-plug] For example, should you decide to use my Maxis HD Tree Replacement Mod at a later point, all trees on those park lots will turn into HD trees.[/shameless self-plug] Of course this will also work with any other mod that replaces Maxis trees, for example the Sayonara! Maxis Trees mod.

Plazas are more difficult - for me, at least. There are many sets, but I'm not entirely sold on any of them myself. Maybe soldyne's stuff would be a start? I'd wait for input from other members, though.
