The night lighting is...Heavenly!
 
Temporal lighting required floodlight fixtures, which have been arrayed in different setups over time.
In the following photos, we can see the front floodlights are on mounts projecting out on either side of the narrow neck of the viewing platform.





It looks like there are also floodlights to either side of the statue recessed into box assemblies camouflaged to look like the side parapets of the viewing platform.  Previously, it looks like they used simple floodlight fixtures on elevated mounts for the sides, while a larger floodlight group is still mounted on a braced tower to the rear:






Of course, Divine Lighting is awesome too!  After all, we are meant to look up at the statue from far below, where we would never see the fixtures.  Perhaps putting in the light sources reduces the idealized grandeur, but I think such little human elements can add even more moments of interesting detail to the base.  We look at all your other night-lighted works and are amazed by how they dazzle and sparkle not just from the cast lights, but from all the modeled sources.

Elavery - no, I don't think lotters can add people to this BAT, I thought you could only add props to lots? There won't be any lot with this BAT, its effectively a W2W. However, I can add tourists into the BAT:

 

 

Odainsaker: Great images    Your post has prompted me that I haven't included any of the touristy stuff around the viewing platform.. so as well as a bank of lights and tourists, I've added tourist information boards, commemorative plaques, rubbish bins and directional signs. Hopes this helps to give it a bit more of a lived-in look.

 

Not everyone is going to like the BATed people frozen in time.. let me know what you think?

Seraf, you would be welcome to join if you wish. There is a list of possible BATs in the first post, and there are many more that could also be an option.

 

I have two buildings in mind, one of them being Biblioteca Nacional from the list (looks like most of the historic structures are either demolished or far from city centre and I guess you would like to focus on buildings from there). When I get back home I will give it a try and see if I can keep up to your standards guys

Red, I think it would also work as a great observation deck without the statue as well. Would you consider using a fountain or something as an alternate (for those of various faiths/beliefs)?

I've never made anything like this before so should be interesting

 

Tony - The viewing platform will be exported separately from the statue but there's a large black void under where they join up. As long as you can find a prop big enough to cover it then you should be able to re-purpose it

 

Girafe/ LnX - The versions I have in mind are

1) The full BAT but with separately exported statue and plinth in various coloured night lighting. 

2) The statue & plinth on their own but probably only one colour of nightlight. (I have to do one on their own at ground level, otherwise they hover in the air).

I won't be doing a third version with just the viewing platform and statue but without the rocks. Otherwise I'll be here the rest of the year exporting all the combinations

Oh yeah, forgot about that... Rail clone? I watched about a 3rd of it and got bored . No, I used a pretty primitive way to do it, but actually I think its simpler than what I saw in Rail clone. I made the whole grandstand as a straight piece, then added a bend modifier to it. The steps were:

 

1) Got a seating map of the Engenhão stadium from Google images and added it to the top viewport background in 3DS Max

2) Made a straight staircase the depth and length of the grandstand, divided into 16 sections

3) Made a low-poly seat out a plane geometry, then used the array tool to clone it all the way up the stairs, then all the way along the grandstand.

4) Deleted out the seats where the pathways go

5) Added all the extra bits of the model such as the railings, entrances and rafters at the back

6) Added a Bend modifier and conformed it to the shape of the stadium from the seating map in the top viewport

 

Pretty simple really, only took a few hours, once I worked out a way to do it
