Italian Bus stop crashed gameplay !

Today I experienced a set back of this bus stop crash my game !

Some more research revealed this and other files are part of the Italian Collection.

Update ;

This morning probably found the file as Walkingsnake SC4jeeks Parkng Textures at SC4ever. Hope the issue of crashing game be resolved  with this last, to conclude the issue !

Sincerely yours,

Kschmidt

Is the issue solved then? I checked the files you had attached and they were just models and descriptors, surely not the cause of the crashes.

They look like bus stops to me. The source of the problem must be the building featured in the lots. Props don't cause crashes, as far as I know.

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

This custom ordinance cost calculation bug just keeps getting stranger, even Cousin Vinnie and Dr. Vu don't have this kind of cash. *:8)

Cutom-Ordinance-Dll-Bug-Part4.png

I am mystified by this bug. My code is handing the game the correct monthly expense value ($-247), and it shows up correctly in the City Ordinance section of monthly expenses. So I have no clue where the game is getting those other numbers (141 trillion?) from.

The only thing I can think of is SC4 has a bug in its ordinance cost calculations code that the built-in ordinances don't hit for some reason, or it is a more obscure issue in my code.

This might be somethingb Tyberius have a look at, strange that Lotprop names displayed. There's no lot file or do you need the original archive files. Will tomorrow have a look at this and make a screenshot of the menu items !

Well, if I get it right there need to be some lots featuring those props or they wouldn''t appear in the transport menu. Let me know!

Hi, I examined the transportmenu and i am afther a extensive review of the transportmenu items have to conclude this has nothing to do with the Italian Collection. The menu item work fine they produce these bats !

jk6JLY3.jpg

Narrow down the menu items  I find one without a name or anything wich freezes the game !

yN4qS06.jpg

There are some items above wich are Ok and below are Ok wich have littte resembles with the mystery, the are below Portacittadina of wich theirs a different relot, this migh be the problem and Tore Civica of wich I haven´t found any file !

oJfcV2J.jpg

HT17U4o.jpg

This list might include the relot file and might actualy aswell there be one of the lot files above of these bats may be the one wich is the culprit of the crashing menu item as they are very similair to the one that is shown in the menu as the crashing lot item inthe game not shur !

Everyone examine the menu item with CRASH at the right who recognize this Bat !

Hope I can eliminate this bug from my game, see your reaction with intrest coming !

Sincerely yours,

Kschmidt

Hi, I wait for more reactions. Excel  sheet ? I'm not very in to ms office  use open office basic only one transvered a sheet to pdf but nothing ,more. Someone should recognize or have this bat working. Let see what's coming, hapy this didn't have anything to do with the Italian Collection wich reduce the search field in this direction. Hope to see !

Update;

Discovered today above files are part of the Italien Collection. First assumed they where related so tried to see or most logical SC4Lot file might remove it. Examin, the menu remained unchanged so this wasn´t the file, I returned it. With this confermation I conclude that this odd crash producing menu item isn´t related to the Italian collection. So search continues, will aware of this I need to avoid this whenver I acces the transportmenu, only way for now  !

Sincerely yours,

Kschmidt

My custom ordinance DLL can now persist the ordinance state to the city save file, the game will call my DLL code to handle the required processing when loading and saving a city.

Custom-Ordinance-Dll-Save-Game.png

So in summary, the custom ordinance DLL can now:

  • Add a new ordinance into the game that does not replace any of the built-in ones.
  • Allow the ordinance to have a custom monthly cost calculation or availability conditions (e.g. starting year or specific buildings that must be in the city).
  • Have the game persist the ordinance's state to the city save file.

It does have some limits when compared to what Maxis could have done, e.g. I cannot add new ordinance effects beyond the 36 that Maxis added as the those are hard-coded into the various game systems. I also don't have access to the game's property/exemplar parsing code, so the ordinance name, description and effects are hard-coded into the DLL.

I have not been able to come up with a file format that would allow users to write their own ordinances to insert into the game, one of the main difficulties is all the different data types that the ordinance effects use.

I think the game may allow DLLs to access the system that it uses to get data from the DAT files, but I am not sure if that system is available when SC4 loads DLLs (which is when the game requires the ordinance IDs to be registered in-game). But that may be useful for other possible DLL mods. As I mentioned above, the DLL would have to do its own parsing of any data it requests.

For reference, here are the 36 built-in ordinance effects. I originally compiled this list as part of my ordinance property system debugging code.

Spoiler

ID - Name (Data Type)

0x28ed0380 - Crime Effect (float32[1])
0xaa5b8407 - Mayor Rating (int32[1])
0x08f79b8e - Air Effect (float32[1])
0x28f42aa0 - Flammability Effect (float32[1])

0xa8f4eb0c - Water Use Reduction (float32[1])
0x0911e117 - Power Reduction Effect (float32[1])
0x2a633000 - Commercial Demand Effect (float32[1])
0x2a653110 - Demand Effect:Cs$ (float32[1])
0x2a653120 - Demand Effect:Cs$$ (float32[1])
0x2a653130 - Demand Effect:Cs$$$ (float32[1])
0x2a653320 - Demand Effect:Co$$ (float32[1])
0x2a653330 - Demand Effect:Co$$$ (float32[1])
0x2a634000 - Industrial Demand Effect (float32[1])
0x2a654100 - Demand Effect:IR (float32[1])
0x2a654200 - Demand Effect:ID (float32[1])
0x2a654300 - Demand Effect:IM (float32[1])
0x2a654400 - Demand Effect:IHT (float32[1])
0x491b3ad5 - Health Coverage Radius % Effect (float32[1])
0x891b3ae6 - Health Effectiveness vs. Distance Effect (float32, general response curve)
0xe91b3aee - Health Quotient Boost Effect (float32[1])
0xc92d9c7a - Health Quotient Decay Effect (float32[1])
0x092d909b - Health Capacity Effect (float32[1])
0xe92d9db4 - Health Effectiveness vs. Average Age Effect (float32, general response curve)
0xa91b3af4 - School Coverage Radius % Effect (float32[1])
0xa91b3afa - School Effectiveness vs. Distance Effect (float32, general response curve)
0xa92d9d7a - School EQ Boost Effect (float32[1])
0x692ef65a - School EQ Decay Effect (float32[1])
0x892d9d02 - School Capacity Effect (float32[1])
0xc91b3b02 - School Effectiveness vs. Average Age Effect (float32, general response curve)
0x8a612fee - Travel Strategy Modifier (int32[9])
0x8a67e373 - Air Effect by zone type (float32[16])
0x8a67e374 - Water Effect by zone type (float32[16])
0x8a67e376 - Garbage Effect by zone type (float32[16])
0x8a67e378 - Traffic Air Pollution Effect (float32[1])

I have not posted a binary release for this change because it would just add a useless ordinance to the save game, and may have other unintended effects that I missed. I am not sure what more I can do with this DLL experiment, other than trying to design the custom ordinance file format I mentioned above. Ideas would be welcome. *:)
