So with the Flora Families ready, time to start expanding the T21s:

Here is the effect from simply replacing every Res/Com T21 with trees for the Street Network, re-linking them to my seasonal Flora Families. I actually plan to do some further tweaking to the layout, currently you get this effect in $$$ areas, but elsewhere the amount of trees are lacking a bit. But there is a nice randomness to the trees used, of course with a little clicking around you can keep shifting things until they look how you want them too.

LONG TIME NO SEE. Yall, I have been lotting in SimCity 4 LotEditer. ATM i plan on redoing all of @RRetail Fastfood Restaurants PLUS MORE. Here is JUST a small look at this WIP.

In addition to Trees, I've made some progress on my custom lighting too:

On the left are my new Blue lamps for Streets, on the right are the original white ones. Actually I choose blue because it worked best when I was initially making this for Rivit's Urban TSR streets, the white reflected too much. I've had all the bits and bobs sitting around, after I got bogged down trying to work out how to light the draggable WRCs. So I've moved away from that and just concentrated on editing the T21s to first add my lights, but second fix the light-spread problem. I'll explain all that later on my dev thread, but yeah my streets are already looking way better and I've a lot more tweaking in mind to try and ensure lights are everywhere and evenly spread.

Latest progress with the T21 modding, starting with supporting the typically unsupported pieces for more uniform light spread:

Obviously early days, I've added support for lights on diagonals, T and + intersections, the 90° curve and street end pieces. But I hope this shows how the eventual mod should appear for all networks in terms of the light distribution.

I used a little cheat here with a 'dummy' lamppost on the 4-way crossings, there are two lampposts, but only one has a lightcone for projecting light. I felt two lampposts looked better, but if you have two lights, you get the too be avoided bright spots we don't want, so this was a neat little fix. Actually note how the intersection is brighter when 4 tiles with light are around it compared to when it is lit by itself, although not a lot you can do about that really.

I've also starting to add Girafe's road signs, expect something similar to my SAM7 Bikepaths T21 mod coverage wise:

Lastly, since the gaps on the diagonals where there are no lights are so perfect for it, I figured I'd add some trees there:

Obviously lots, lots more to-do, but armed with these new 'templates' and those from my work on other T21 modding, I've got a really solid amount of setups covered to make a huge dent in covering the basics. Then to decide what additional details to add to these networks, like parking bays and streetside props etc.

Cinematography is pretty much a dead art now. You're just paying $30 for an uncomfortable seat, to look at a big TV. 16:9 aspect ratio has been king since the 70's, as theater chains demanded it. No more-

hey, it's been a while again 

i'm building the courage to work in the "big" cities in my region (and it's funny cause when i say big cities, i'm talking about 100/150k max, usually just around 50k lol), so whenever i open up SC4 im just creating these small towns (like the one i will post below) to get rhythm again cause i forgot how to do very basic stuff in this game lol. i hope i can show more of this one when its finished in my CJ 

since im here i will make a quick question: is there an easy (fast) way to replace a texture that appears in several lots? i'm talking about this grass texture (highlighted in yellow) which i think it's from Paeng:

the lots highlighted in magenta are just 3 examples of lots that originally had other grass texture, and i had to change them manually using LotEditor. it's not a hard task, far from it, but it can be very annoying and time-consuming when we're talking about a large number of lots, and this texture that i want to change appears in way more than 100 lots lol.

i was thinking about looking for the core file, the original grass texture which i'm pretty sure was made by Paeng, and then replace the image inside the file for the texture that i want to appear instead using iLivesReader. is that possible? so all the lots that use this bright green texture would change to the grass texture that i want to instantly. i remember trying to do something similar years ago but i couldn't succeed, so im asking here if thats possible or if there's another way, since i'm pretty bad at the modding part of the game lol

A small 'fix' today, just adding support for the PedxGLR crossing, so it works with the Jap NAM Facelift Mod (i.e. uses much nicer bridges). Requires the original mod but otherwise just chuck this file somewhere it'll load after the NAM and this will work for you too.

Note: Be careful if using this to replace existing instances, since with the patch installed the old NAM bridge is removed, i.e. if you open a city with the old version in it, the existing tiles won't look any different to regular GLR sections, making them hard to find. It's T21 based, so also remember to include the bridge for existing setups, you'll need to refresh the tile, which you can do with the PedxGLR piece selected without bulldozing anything.

Are you using my TGN mod?, it includes amongst other things an Override for the Park textures by Paeng. However in the image I can see a stripped grass, that's not from Paeng for certain.

All you need to do is create a substitute texture with the same ID as the one you want it to replace, then make sure it loads after the original. This is the core of what TGN does, but there are so many textures out there, I've only got so far with covering third party packs. If you do this where one texture replaces what were many slightly different textures, you also quickly loose the variation that might otherwise be there.

#!@£%^&*$? - this is representative of what you would have heard around me for the last 5 hours whilst trying to get this to work:

On top are a series of my 1x1 Pavement with Tree Filler lot (from my Filler Set), only modified to use the Seasonal Flora Families for a random Seasonal tree. The lower (grass) lots should be familiar, they are the 1x1 Grass Parks from Maxis, given a similar treatment. So random seasonal flora on lots, provided you plop them on the 1st September essentially.

5 hours ago the plan was to spend my day wiping out the Maxis Trees and replacing them with the FFs on all the park lots, but it's proven a lot more involved. I've had to disentangle Ad-Hoc Prop Families, reduce the occupant size of existing items on lots (requires hex editing manually), yet still after all that I couldn't get the trees to appear. This was driving me a little crazy, since the FloraFamily data I was using (LotConfigPropertyLotObject), was copied from the Maxis City Hall, so there was no good reason why it shouldn't work, seasonal aside, Maxis used them. Long and short, Flora like this are REALLY picky about any other lot object being close by, if something is the tree simply won't appear. I think the only solution to give the trees more space to breathe lies in the wonderful kSC4FloraParametersProperty, so I have to decipher that before I can move forwards, (and edit 94 such exemplars of not simple data, i.e. no copy/paste job). Hindering this, the only proper explanation of that I ever got was from @vortext in a PM over on SimPeg.com, I stashed it but never made an offline backup, so it went when the site went down. I do recall thinking both, I'll need this one day and bloody hell is it complex.

However for the moment I've just cheated a little by removing Props I didn't need to provide space and in the case of the filler lot, I made an overlay texture for the dirt mound, since nothing I did would allow the trees to appear if there was a prop underneath it. But finally and with the aforementioned swearing, I've cracked the basics, so Seasonal Maxis parks (and other lots) using FloraFamilies are going to be a thing now (eventually).
