In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

Also, does someone know who can give me permission to share those textures that I've derivated from custom content? Only BSC Textures and MTP are affected this far. I don't know how to handle this in case of the BSC Textures, and Pegasus hasn't been active since 2013. @CorinaMarie, do you know that?

Unfortunately, afaik derivative textures from any other source except Maxis and NAM are not allowed to be shared. Let's not take this as an absolute ruling tho since this was all set up long before I joined ST.

I believe this might really need its own topic. *;)

I won't parse it out since you are showing something you are working on. So, how about creating a new topic in the Modding Forum? Please re-beep me and @Cyclone Boom when you do. I'd like to hear from other long term members in the new thread.

I'm currently developing some overlay textures with 8 different shapes, based on various textures by Maxis, BSC, and Pegasus. These are textures that either I am using frequently, or that I am frequently seeing in custom plugins. The table should speak for itself. (Some entries are blank because either you can get them by mirroring another texture by pressing M in the LE, or they are already available somewhere.)

The dark red brick texture is based on something I found in BSC Textures Vol 2, but I couldn't find something similar online, thus, I just made a base texture myself. The gravel texture is selfmade, but strongly based on the gravel that is part of Pegasus' Terrain Kit; thus, it isn't HD. (I wanted it to fit with Pegasus' stuff. And I don't even want to tell you how I made it...)

If some people want it, I'll share them; while lotting, I really occasionally missed textures such as these, but there are already a lot of texture packs available and I don't want to share something useless.

I'm BSC Custodian, but I will need to confer with my active teammates on the matter before I can give approval. I do have one important question though. Will this be an override that will effect all existing custom content already using the original textures, or are these new instances from your own texture range? If new instances, then I don't see any problems at all.

If it is an override, can you show me before and after pictures in-game?

Thank you for your answer. These will be textures from my own texture range. I will be tagging you soon in another topic. Please make sure to check it.

This is beautiful! So well modelled and the textures are really nice. But may I ask for an ALTERNATIVE non-flag version? *:D I'd also understand, if you'd say it's "take it or leave it" though ...

YO, guys --  *:D

FIRST:  Let me say that I put this up in another thread where stuff like this is done -- but I got no response -- so I moved it over here!!

I know I'm about to stick my hand in the frying pan -- but I REALLY need some DETAILED guidance.

PROBLEM:

I have some excellent "water-ploppable" ship models and I'm working on a massive project to create a huge naval dockyard.  After extensive and tedious testing of various custom and downloaded docks and piers I have run into two problems.

FIRST; docks either conform to the terrain height, or they drop the terrain to sea level.  This, obviously, creates a situation where you will have to transition from higher areas down to dock level.

SECOND;  Depending upon which type of dock you are testing, the "LOD footprint" of the ship will only allow you to "plop" the lot at a certain distance from the dock.  Obviously -- too far away looks ridiculous -- and too close usually encroaches on the edge of the dock.

The obvious solution to "docking" a ship with no "visual bloopers" was PEG's method of creating the ship as an overhanging prop.  With the overhanging prop, you simply open the lot in EDITOR and position your "prop ship" as desired.  (There are, of course, restrictions on HOW MUCH of the prop can be extended beyond the limits of the lot.)

WHAT I HAVE:

I have worked with EDITOR, READER, and PLUGINS MANAGER extensively and have a reasonably good grasp on them.  I have started working with TWEAKER and have successfully managed to shrink the occasional prop for use on a lot.  (About three day's worth of experience, there.)

WHAT I NEED TO KNOW --

How do I take a perfectly good, "water-ploppable" model, and use it to create an overhanging prop for use against a dock?

(I assume there is also a process involved in actually getting it installed in PLUGINS so I can use it.)

Tutorials are a fine thing -- but they almost always leave out a small detail that frustrates people to the point of going off the idea entirely.  And they usually assume you know more than you do -- simply because you asked the question in the first place.

Anyone kind and gracious enough to offer advice / guidance will be most welcome -- but keep one thing in mind -- you almost need to start with..."Step One: Turn on computer".  (I'm not quite that dense, but let's assume I am.)

THANK YOU for your time and patience --- HELP !!

@Dreadnought, I hear your pain on tutorials though this one helped me a lot.https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2443.0

Also this one - https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?PHPSESSID=7d15d114b8f342bf84a15584aa095184&topic=23.0

Another important fact to keep in mind is that placing a prop on a water lot will cause it to sink to the bottom like the Bismarck after the Royal Navy was finished with it.

**EDIT** I forgot - you also should make custom LODs for your models. They'll fit nice and tight to your docks. LMK if you need help via pm.

@Scaley McSlither

On overhanging prop is attached to the dock preventing a watery demise !

I already read one of the tutorials and found it lacking in specific information.  Not to throw stones at anyone -- but most of them are written by people that already have a lot of experience working with the apps -- and they generally forget that tutorials are for beginners.  "Step One: Turn On Computer...".

The reason for creating the model as an overhanging prop is to AVOID the problem of "LOD footprints" making it hard to properly position a "floating" lot.

BUT -- i WILL check out the other tutorial.  I may have accidentally acquired enough information to stumble my way through this.

THANX for your advice --

@Dreadnought - I wonder if you could reach out to @Tyberius06 as I'm looking at the Heretic Seaport Project and it looks awfully similar to what you're trying to accomplish. Hopefully he'd be wiling to share some of his experience with you on "docked" ships.

@Scaley McSlither

Thanks for the tip --  *:thumb:

But looking at the pictures you provided -- those are seaport lots originally created by the "PEG" people.  Tyberius is very good -- but I have the same lots, downloaded from PEG.

BUT -- that is the general idea.  *:D

I already know how to make "water ploppable" ship lots -- and how to enlarge or shrink things in "Tweaker".  *:read:

I am now going to go into PIMX to attempt to convert the model to a prop -- and then go into Tweaker to see if I can make it either "overhanging" or m"offset".  *

With any luck I'll get it right --  *:kitty:

Dirty it up just a tad.  The wall looks too clean -- no soot, grime, or dust -- or that aged look for that matter.

That should account for probably another five minutes !  *:D
