Waaaaah! Too much awesomeness here.

@younghappy, that's one of the best coasts I have ever seen in my entire SC4 career. Impressive use of MMPs to create a totally realistic result! Great choice of BATs, too, superb use of FAR assets (both BATs and networks) - it all looks so organic! Wow, just wow.

@nycsc4: Now that's a smart idea, combining the Globe arena with RDQ's convention centre... I'd never have thought of that, but they sure look good together!

@Simmer2: OK, now we have reached model railroad levels that shouldn't even be possible. *:golly: Great scene - both in terms of game assets and story. *:D

@pclark06: I agree that it looks like time well spent. This is shaping up to become a really nice BAT. The sign might do with a slight desaturation, and I'm not sure about those HVAC units appearing completely white in game, but that's about it. I really dig that bed post entrance portal!

Lovable, specially the FAR section with apartments!

Also, an anticipated welcome here :P

Thank you!  I was lucky to find FAR apartments that matched exactly what I needed for this project.  Have there been any big changes in your country since 2016 that I should know about? I know that Piñera is back in power.  I am very excited for the cheap avocados!

Wow!  Thank you so much @T Wrecks!  It was painstakingly slow to get to this stage so I'm glad that it has paid off.  I'll need a new computer and plugin folder for my SC4 career to continue.

You're very welcome. I can imagine that it took a whole lot of time, and it clearly shows.

As for requiring a new PC and plugins folder, join the club.... *sigh*

My (~8 years) old notebook is dying on me, the display has started to show glitches and errors. I have found and bought a used notebook meanwhile, a real monster PC by my standards. However, I'm still conducting some experiments with it, trying out stuff. Then I'll install Win10 over it, and then I'll have to wait for a GoG sale on SC4 Deluxe. I do have the old discs lying around, but my new NB doesn't have an optical drive, and I don't feel like contacting EA for a code redeeming action, having to install Origin and maybe ending up with an unpatchable digital version nonetheless. I'd rather throw a few bucks at GoG, whom I regard to be a decent company. Here's to hoping my old notebook will hold for a few more weeks!

As for the plugins, you may have read in Indiana Joe's thread that I'm currently piecing together a folder as well, and this will also take a while. I have single-family homes and small residential rowhouses (1x1 / 1x2 / 1x3) covered, and I am currently busy with mid-rise residential apartment blocks. This is where I got side-tracked with my little recolouring project. (I noticed that prepo's Finnish rowhouses and StephenHH's tenement blocks could also use some desaturation...)

Anyway, I sure hope you'll be able to continue because it's so much fun to look at your pictures. *:) I wish you a nice trip to Chile and hope you'll come back to ST soon!

Thank you! I definitely plan on adding some sort of painted texture to the signs as they are usually painted with the LED text on top. there's a lot of textures still needed to be done on it but it's getting there.

Not that much. There are more immigrants now and politics are somewhat more uncertain, but that's almost a given on all countries by now. Sadly, the avocadoes are on an all-time price surge, and their quality has plummeted as the best ones are being furiously exported.

I wish, haha. Too many projects right now. Migrating to new computer, piecing together my plugins, dozens of IRM items left to upload, and now the recolouring stuff... :boggle: I can't do it efficiently because GIMP lacks a decent (and user-friendly) batch processing routine, and I'm starting with some of the hardest BATs to recolour because it's basically a simulated Scanline =>  Mental Ray conversion and not just a colour correction of a Mental Ray render. I do hope that the latter will be easier! In any case, don't hope for quick results.

As mentioned before, I see a chance of uploading all my modified stuff eventually, but the emphasis is both on "chance" and "eventually", not on "surely" and "anytime soon". I'd need some help for that - or lose my job to have enough time. *:P

@T Wrecks

You might consider trying IrfanView as a tool to try your color changing with - its reasonably powerful for global changes and has a batch mode for all sorts of manipulations (and its free). For the Scanline- Mental ray conversion also try varying gamma - its a nonlinear change and can often fix washed out or overly dark images.

Also (I cant seem to get a pm to you) in my public archive is a new version of GoFSH with a colorchange option for 3ds Maxis nite to Dark NIte to try.

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

@nycsc4 keep up the good work! I love how you're planing and making your cities. Beautiful bay area. I'm not a big fan of skyscraper jungles, but your images are really nice!

Thanks!  I'm trying to get a little more similar to the real life Vancouver and the Downtown Peninsula is nothing if not a huge skyscraper jungle lol.  The vast majority of my city is low density residential, but the central city will be made just as, if not more, dense as the real Vancouver.

Thank you for your reply! I have XNView, which has a similar functionality. I might use that for gmax BATs and smaller corrections, but thse Scanline buildings... :dead: I have been experimenting with colour curves including the individual RGB channels, brightness/contrast, saturation, hue, and individual colour balance, sometimes selectively for highlights, medium colours and shadows.

Since that stuff is more complex than simply cranking down saturation two notches, I first take an in-game screenshot where I plopped the original building in a Maxis environment. Then I fire up GIMP, make a selection of just that building and experiment with colour changes until I think the building blends in rather well. Then I apply these changes to the FSH's (I can then always select "Last settings" at least). Some of these advanced filters are not available in XNView or might work differently, and in XNView I can't applay corrections selectively to a part of the test screenshot (namely the building in question) to check out what to do before I apply it to the FSHs. Can I make a free polygon-based selection in IrfanView?

I have meanwhile achieved some acceptable results, and I feel that I have learnt a lot. However, this stuff has cost me too much time. I guess I'll leave them as they are for now, and continue modding. I can always go back at a later time, when I have even more practice.

Right now, I'll move on and recolour some gmax and 3dsmax MR renders as it may become necessary, that's far easier. This will also take me to a handful of BATs that only exist for Maxis night, where I'll be able to test your latest version of GoFSH including the night view conversion function. *:)

@Goldman Sachs: Wow, those ship models are so amazing! And early aircraft carriers look so odd... I think one of the few carriers that manages to look even more awkward was Akagi in is early three-deck configuration. What an oddity, that one! *

@Goldman Sachs Heeee yeah this can always occur... I've experienced failed exports multiple times, it's really annoying especially when you had to wait for very long... I hope that your next export attempt will be the one. Great, great work by the way...

@Simmer2 Great ! Is this one of these horrible WWI german canons ? On the french side these received a funny nickname ("la grosse Bertha", as if it was a german lady called the fat Bertha)... Lol.

It was indeed one of those cannons but not Big Berta, this one is even bigger. Google Dora cannon.

It reminds me to one of my favourite PC games: Total Annihillation. One side had a cannon called Big Bertha. It was a map cleaning device actually. From one side of the MAP you could shot to the other side and it doesn't require proper target. :)

Anyway, @Simmer2 beautiful work on that cannon! :) And of course thanks for releasing the Locomotive Refueling Station.

Is the base modelled with the buildings? It looks an awesome project of yours, but the sake of modularity (IF the base textures and those trees are moddeled together with the buildings), could you offer the main buildings AS separate models too. So I'm NOT asking you to give up your concept, but for LOTters like me would be awesome if we can get just the building models (without the modelled ground base and trees) as well.

Anyhow keep up the good work! I really like it so far! :)

Yes, the buildings are modeled with the base. Reason are the impossible entangled ways of the campus, which I would not be able to do with some base textures.
In addition, the buildings sometimes have different levels of elevation and are not simply standing on a smooth, straight surface.
Since the project is only for me, that does not matter.
If someone is interested in a building, I like to do him/her a "solo version"

Greetings Wolf
