Amsterdam / Netherlands "Het Schip". Built from 1919-1920.
Size 15x8. View 1: 1 north
A first impression. But there is still a lot to do. But now I go on vacation. Will take a few more weeks.

Wow, that is *huge* :O

Starting another from Charterhouse street...the street with every single architectural style known to man all side-by-side.

This time, Prince Charles' favourite, Palladian revival:

Yes, really big. These are almost two streets of a district. And it has countless curves and curves. In addition, Diagonal, no idea how I get the TE then ... so still busy. *:8)
By the way a very nice house again. Is it then as a set? I want to have them all .... *:thumb:

I just have other problems.
In the middle of the work my Sketchup license expired. So I can no longer export my work in the necessary 3ds format.
I am glad that I go on vacation on Saturday. Since I can reduce my frustration something ...... *:8)

@mattb325

I have long admired HRH's taste in architecture......

And your rendition is equally admired.  I look forward to your efforts -- especially the English ones.

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

@Tyberius06 Thanks! I actually expanded my retaining wall set. There are many more pieces not shown yet. Slowly but surely one day soon I will release the set.

@Belfastsocrates I have had many requests for it therefore I might do something about it.

I will be offline traveling Europe for 16 days after July 12th however after I'm back I will seriously consider making an eye candy  Maglev set for SC4.

I already made several pieces anyways.

The rail looks great, but I'm not sure about the supports tbh. Maybe that's simply because we still associate MagLev with "modern/future technology", and those massive round concrete colums look like any old bridge support and just don't convey that scifi-esque vibe.

I do think something vaguely in the shape of an H, A, or /\, possibly with rectangular beams and colums, and relatively slender and elegant in overall appearance, might "sell" the modern aspect somewhat better. Of course, 7.5m height would make it even more realistic, but this is supposed to be a direct monorail override, I guess?

Hi

I just want to reiterate that this project will not be an override or animated in any way shape or form. Ever since I posted a few pics several months ago I made it clear that it will only be eye candy. Many have PM me happy to have it as is for their maps.

With that out of the way, I will point out the A frame column in the previous pics. They are plain concrete. The round metal clad columns in my latest pics are more streamlined and also take less room.

If we go with the real ones then they are even uglier. They are plain rectangular concrete boxes. Lets see where it takes us.

Reference pics.

@korver

Your shot of the falls is absolutely breathtaking.  The detail and the attention to the terrain authenticity is superb.  (Even the "hairy cows" -- *:rofl:  )

I lament that I only visited once -- but I rejoice that I visited such awesome wilderness beauty at all.

The time is coming when global warming will change all of this -- how sad to contemplate......

Ah, I didn't read every single post about it over the last months, so I must have missed the eye candy part. I'm not in here as often as I used to, you see.

Well, in any case I merely tried to offer some input because it seemed that you were not quite certain which way to go and what you liked best. No criticism intended.

As for the "real ones", it pretty much depends on what particular system you base your ideas on. Unless you have a particluar one in mind (pardon me if I missed that, too), you can find pretty much any style out there:

Transrapid1-1024x650.jpeg

500_F_75288529_wBnNQrzh16e25nRrYo9wv2iOy

Personally, I think one approach (the one I was getting at in my last post) would be to go by effect: What do I want the system to look like, what impression am I going for? Another would be to pick out any of the existing styles and recreating it with any degree of freedom you like. None of these approaches is "more valid" or "better" than the other, of course. There is really not just the one solution, and at the end of the day it all boils down to what you think works best for your creation.

Whatever style you pick, the one thing that's for sure is that it will be good in the end - your modeling and texturing skills will make any kind of rail and support look the part. *:)
