This post commemorates my 10th Anniversary as a Simtropolis member.

As one of many parts, our website simply wouldn't be a community without each of us being here. This post isn't focusing specifically on anything I've contributed over this past decade, but instead reflecting on 10 years which have been a privilege to be part of. All made possible because this is a place we call home.

Taking a trip down memory lane, thinking back to when this moment happened...
 

 

And then as a cyclone I've developed over the years in more ways than one:

              

 

It was back on a calm summer evening in late August 2012 where I had the idea to join Simtropolis, which is precisely a decade ago to the very minute I'm posting here now. This would prove to be one of the best decisions I've made in my entire life so far.

Thinking back at that moment, I'd never have expected how 10 years later I'd now be in this very position. Being an admin here is a role I've thrived on and highly enjoy still to this day. Back then was a period with high school coming to an end, I needed a focus in my life. Something for me to get involved with, where I could engage in a creative hobby among like-minded people. Simtropolis fulfilled this role, and it still does now.

The most enjoyable period in these 10 years has been since I've become an admin with Cori.

In fact, without Cori alongside me from 2017 onwards, I seriously doubt I'd still be actively involved in any admin role here 5 years later. Cori has become my very best friend, and we see ourselves equally equated to steer the ship. Additionally the creative side of SC4 has allowed our imaginations to roam free. This includes game projects and certain site enhancements. We're both here because of enjoying our roles. We receive no money since it's all entirely voluntary, and that's how we're content. We wouldn't want it to be differently. The motivation to be here is because Simtropolis is a community unlike any other in the entire universe.

This is where we want to be, where we still are, and where we wish to continue in the future.

As many of you will know, Cori has been going through difficulties over the past period in her life. We all go through tough times. This has been a particularly unsettling few months, but one thing which has helped is the prospect for us both to return in future. The fact how this is our home, much like it is for all of us.

In my mind, the biggest reason why Simtropolis can be called "home" is because in this world here on planet earth, there is so much nonsense which goes on. Too much hatred, not enough love, and many times we're left helpless to do anything whatsoever about things other than frown, shout, or cry. So this community and in many ways SC4 itself, it's a blissful escape away from perils of reality. We're able to create our own cities and make a difference here, which isn't always possible in the turbulent realm we know as real life. We can each reply to people's questions on the forums. It's possible to share our city scenes and inspire others from pics and CJ stories. Creating custom content for BATs, lots, mods, and maps which collectively enhances the game's diversity.

Few of us are experts at every individual aspect, but that's fine too. Each of us as community members can have a role, and in that way we're citizens of our own world in being here and keeping Simtropolis be more than just a website. After all, a website is merely an empty shell without the people who are here. Also the fact how we're from all corners of the globe and can still be part of the overall picture. That right there is what makes our home truly beyond special.

At the start of this speech and at other points, you might've noticed I specifically described myself as a Simtropolis member. This is how I see myself, and Cori tells me the same too. We're just like all of you, at an equal level in sharing an involvement in this creative hobby. The tools Cori and I have as admins allow us to help steer the ship, but we're not the driving force on our own. That's all of you, and we'd not want to be here if this wasn't a fulfilling role to be in.

My 10 years of experience here has proven Simtropolis is very much the most gratifying place to be involved with in the most elevated form. While I'm not part of other communities to make comparisons, I find it hard to believe there's anywhere quite like our own small yet peaceful corner of the internet. The creative and technically orientated nature of the SC4 community is wonderful, and cannot be substituted.

Having been here for 3,652 days and counting, the focus for me now looks ahead to the next decade. I never knew what the future would bring 10 years ago, and the same holds true from this point forwards. There is only one certainty however, in how every additional day I'm part of Simtropolis will be a continued blessing. I look forward to still being alongside Cori as 50% of the admin team. Next year on 14th January is the 20th anniversary of SC4 itself, and there's scope of amazing things we can still create as a community. I'm confident there will be exciting times ahead for all of us, and we each bring something special simply by being here.

So before this speech draws on for too long, I'll wrap this up now...

(I figured it'd be fitting to write exactly one thousand words here, and that's what this additional mini paragraph serves to reach. And there we go!)

Awesome milestone @Cyclone Boom. The game, and this community, and our lives, are truly enhanced by your presence and dedication. I too love the synergy you have with @CorinaMarie! What I really enjoy about both of you is that you work so well together (you're both very kind and supportive and helpful, and funny and creative and inquisitive and just.... well the list of words to describe you both goes on and on and on)... but what I enjoy even more is how you're both fully qualified to be Admin in your own ways. It's very much two strong wholes coming together to make the community that much stronger.

We will all continue to stand here and think of Cori and support her as needed. We LOVE you Cori. But we are also here for you CB, because you've enriched our lives so we too wish to enrich your life. Thanks for helping keep my love for the best city builder alive and strong.

EDIT: Oh... I guess we can count this as my 10 year anniversary as well. XD ... not to try and steal your thunder CB. I truly had forgotten. I love the community, but I have been here on/off. However, over the course of those years, it's CB and Cori and all the others I interact with nowadays that really make these past few years more memorable.

It's a shame the SC franchise hit the rocks after SC4.  CS was not destiny as it went through the whole Cities in Motion evolution, before finding the formula.

I play on and off every few years.  The problem is CS is much more intuitive to return to than SC4 even if it lacks the multi-dimensional richness.  To truly embrace SC4, you have pursue it regularly.

This month marks 15 years of my membership!  A LOT has changed since 2008.  But Simtropolis and the community as a whole have prevailed and keep getting better.  It's a little mind blowing when I try explaining to someone that I play and love a 20 year old game, and that there's still a very active online community for it who's there with help, advice, and creative ideas & improvements.

I remember my very first topic here, made in 19th of December of 2008 (this is how we tell the dates in Greece), in which I was asking if it was possible to create X-Seed 4000 as a BAT. For those who don't know, X-Seed 4000 was a 4,000 meters tall building proposed in 1995 by Taisei Corporation, supposed to accommodate 500,000 to 1,000,000 inhabitants like a vertical city in its 800 floors.
Why I'm mentioning that today? Because what you see right now is my 4,000th post!

Same here in Indonesia, tho we obviously don't use any st/nd/rd/th and "of", or any equivalent, in Indonesian because it doesn't make any sense. I heard that Malaysians and Bruneians sometimes use something like 19hb (hb stands for hari bulan; or (th) day (of) month, basically date) Desember 2008, tho more and more people are no longer using hb. I'd summon @AsimPika3172.

By the way, I achieved 1,404 contents and by the time I posted this, it's now 1,405. Also, I reached 1,461 rep. 39 to go for the ultimate milestone. Hope the community recovers, along with Cori, and we'll able to gain reps like before.
