Urbanisation and the evolution of cities in Dimland across 10,000 years, Classical Age
mitsos posted a City Journal entry in Dimland
As we saw in the previous chapter, agriculture was the crucial evolutionary step towards permanent human settlement and the creation of the first organized towns and cities from around 9500B.C. The collapse of bronze age civilizations led to a period called "dark ages" in which the was a massive migration. Very little is known. After this period, classical antiquity begins in the 8th century BC until the 6th century AD. During this period the Greeks achieved new heights in art, architecture, theater, and philosophy. Democracy in Athens was refined under the leadership of Pericles. In Dimland, these achievements led to the creation of large cities. Let's take a journey back in time and see some of the most important cities of ancient Dimland and how they evolved through centuries. Enjoy. Penthesili ,8th century BC. The acropolis hill, from a center of power converts to religious center. The first temples are beiing built. Evolution of Penthesilean Acropolis 8 BC- 1 AD The city of Penthesili in 2nd century AD. History: The Temple of Olympian Zeus, also known as the Olympieion or Columns of the Olympian Zeus, is a former colossal temple at the center of the Greek capital Athens. It was dedicated to "Olympian" Zeus, a name originating from his position as head of the Olympian gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC during the rule of the Athenian tyrants, who envisaged building the greatest temple in the ancient world, but it was not completed until the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD, some 638 years after the project had begun. During the Roman period the temple, which included 104 colossal columns, was renowned as the largest temple in Greece and housed one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world. Specs: The file contains an 5x10 lot. Night: Darknite You can find the building in the Lot Editor as: AGC_Ancient-Bu_Greece_Temple-of-Olympian-Zeus_V01_S1_90 (Building) Ubication: Landmarks. Victoria | Athens | Greece

A snapshot of Athens Metro Victoria station, on line 1. I wanted to come here as this station and Ernst-Reuter-Platz station in Berlin are considered as "twins" due to their very similar construction. -
From the album Animation Challenge (S3-25-E)
Full size version (~4MB) of the GIF on the first comment. Please keep in mind that a time lapse animation was one of the official suggested ideas for this challenge on the forum thread. An animated GIF displaying my recreation of the Holy Monastery of St. Nicholas in Meteora, Greece along with some of the surrounding scenery. Wanting to feel closer to heaven, the locals would build their monasteries high in the sky, perched precariously on the edge of sheer granite rock cliffs - truly an amazing sight to behold. One of the frames in this picture (fall) was originally featured in my "Greece - Part II" update in my CJ, True Earth, so for this GIF I decided to showcase Meteora in its entirety with Spring, Summer, and Winter frames as well. Each frame showcases extensive custom lotting, intricate MMPing, and custom content creation (various terrain mods created for this picture + a number of new MMPs made/modded heavily) - The first frame starts off with summer in Meteora. Predictably, this time is the most popular season for tourists to come visit Meteora. The harvest season that begins in late summer is a big attraction as well for tourists. The second frame displays some of Meteora's famous fall foliage. Oaks and maples among others will come alive, displaying various shades of red, orange, and yellow. This coupled with the much more comfortable temperatures makes it a great time to come visit. The third frame shows off Meteora blanketed under a layer of snow in the midst of a snowfall. Despite Meteora's relatively close proximity to the Ioanian and Aegean Seas, it's just high enough in the mountains (1,000-2,000 feet above sea level) to receive regular snow in the winter. Additionally, the mountains will essentially "block out" gusts from the sea, allowing for temperatures to vary wildly. For those wanting to visit Meteora in the wintertime, be prepared for frigid temperatures and constant frost. Before looping, the fourth and final frame shows Meteora in the spring. The cold winters often delay Springtime for a bit, but when it comes it can truly be quite beautiful. Be prepared for fog/rain showers however, a common site during this time of the year.- 3 Comments

G'Day Simtropians, Today I wish to present a map requested courtesy of Cogeo abd Sc4d, Thanks mate. Thessaloniki was founded about 315BC, quite a few drinks ago I should think. She is the second largest city in Greece and capital of the region of Central Macedonia. See me up CLOSE and personal. This is a real world map and was produced with dem and satellite data. It is terrain and scale accurate ans in .SC4M format. The map requires one has either wouanagaine's mapper or terraformer installed to import it into one's game. It measures 28.672km x 28.672km. A free readme is included containing a pic, links and instructions. That's all I think. Cheers- 14 Comments

G'Day Simtropians, Today's map I am presenting I made a few months back when the STEX was a little awry and not accepting much, any how things are better now and this is a map of Aegio, Greece. This is a real world map and was produced with dem and satellite data. It is scale and terrain accurate and requires Wouanagaine's mapper or terraformer to import it into SC4. The map measures 65.536km x 57.344km. A readme with links and instructions is included. (Gratis) I think that's all. Cheers- 11 Comments

G'Day Simtropians, Today I am presenting a map requested by Marsh, thanks mate. Nothing in particular was the request , but something Greek. So I have chosen Agia Triada and the Peninsula of Pelion. See me up CLOSE and personal. This is a real world map and was produced with dem and satellite data. It measures 65.536km x 53.248km and utilising 16bit mapping technology it is in .png format. Wouanagaine's mapper or terraformer is required for importation. The map is terrain and scale accurate. Due to the STEX being locked at 8MB I have not uploaded the usual .SC4M file but I have included the 16bit .png file instead. This saves about 1MB in size and works exactly like the .SC4M file. One still requires mapper or terraformer to import it. Do not change the colours or the bit depth otherwise it will not work. A readme has been included containing some links and instructions and a picture. I think that's all. Cheers- 10 Comments
