Comprehensive SimCity Music Collection, Version 3.2

Do you have music for SimCity Buildit and Social? -
Is there a file with all the SC4 Stock buildings broken up into smaller .dat files? Because that makes them a LOT easier to modify. Or at least a 2x2 or 1x1 medium to high rise commercial building. Hopefully, they look old because I am trying to make CS$ and CS$$ from them.

Also, the Switch tablet seems to be approx. the same size of the Wii U gamepad, which is pretty darn thick compared to most tablets- with a screen size of 6.2 in, much smaller than most tablets, again. There might be space for a decent CPU somewhere in there.

When reading the Maxis closing Reddit posts by the fired Maxis employee, Glassbox seemed to be more Maxis' idea- by the time it was realized it wouldn't work well in the limited performance, it was too late. Online-only certainly didn't help the performance issues. Plus, I don't think the GPU can be used for any CPU processes in SimCity? Cities Skylines built on the empirical failures of SimCity 2013 to make a better game. Who knows what would have happened if it was the other way around in terms of creation date? If they actually decided to suck things up a bit and make a few more expansion packs, it would have made the game a lot more sucessful- by that time, modders would have figured out a way to hack into it and mod it (like IRL). It's like Mac Pro, I guess. It's profitable, but not a money printer. And we still hope for a new iteration. Ah, thanks. They didn't really steal hardware, (more ideas) but still. You can see why Nintendo is so secretive about hardware now. The less information your rivals get about an innovative product, the less time they have to respond with their own version. https://www.quora.com/Why-arent-there-128-bit-CPUs " There is often an unstated belief that 64bit is faster. 64-bit performance is actually often worse then 32-bit. By that same token, 128-bit computer would be even slower. So why is 64-bit slower? It is an avalanche of things. Extending the instruction-set for new Addressing Mode (AMODE) will likely use bigger instructions (except where instruction length is constant, like IBM PowerPC architecture) as well larger constants and pointers, resulting in larger programs, resulting in worse memory performance from both more frequent cache misses and more virtual-to-physical memory translation (TLB) misses... and so on." I never said there were consumer 8-bit processors, but they still exist. They probably wouldn't be much cheaper due to the lack of mass production though. It was mostly from personal experience. Usually I find XP OS to be faster since Windows 10 and 7 add graphical and processor junk I don't need (the worst offender was Vista tho). I think it's because the increased power of computers makes it easier to make larger OSes. But maybe I'm completely wrong. But XP is much more minimalistic than 10, and I would have had no problem continuing to use it if it still got updates. And you can still get new Windows 7 PCs. Pre-installations are often NOT using the most recent OS because there's less demand for that OS than for an older one. (Vista and XP, Windows 7 and 8, etc). Demand for 64-Bit (esp. gaming and editing) will eventually kill 32-Bit in mainstream usage. Because using more than 4 GB of RAM would need a 64 Bit PC. RAM otherwise doesn't make anything slower. Website bloat is a serious problem, I think we can all agree. Website makers do realize that people generally have milisecond-long patience times on the 'net, right? Either that, or the cable companies start letting up. Or not. I meant OS reinstall in general. Windows 10 upgrade is not the norm, it's the exception. At least so far. It may soon become the norm. But COD in VR! Microsoft's consoles don't really concentrate much on exclusives (especially compared to Nintendo)- other than Halo, Minecraft, (and Rare's dead corpse), and they do perfectly well since 3rd parties makes games for them. The same thing would happen to VR if it ends up being just as seamless as PC to Xbox. It's not like COD would need many modifications to work in VR (if at all). You don't need that level of power in a tablet though- it's very difficult to tell the difference between 1080 to 720p on a tablet screen- that's generally a big deal on TVs. Thus, they can skimp on GPUs on the tablets. Though I guess you have a point on the CPU in that part Also, they have a specialized stand that 'swtiches' from console to portable that I would assume has extra performance for console gaming. Which was the part that is arguably just as important. I wouldn't be surprised if there were 'console mode only' switch games.

The OS is the lesser problem than moving all your files to and from a safe backup location and reinstalling everything. Even if you don't sit there and wait, you still need quite a bit of spare time for it. Which is why it'd be nice if the upgrade process is a lot more seamless. Since most people (I would expect) in the consumer and general buisness marketplace wold benefit from extra RAM, even though (now I know) it would make the system slower overall. Especially since Adobe's editor programs have largely moved to 64-Bit, and gaming- and Internet constantly sucks up all my RAM for some reason too... You're talking to a corpse... Even if it doesn't pan out in the consumer market, I would anticipate it would still be a thing in say, gaming, just like with BluRays. It's not anywhere near as Gimmicky as 3D or Motion Control, and could make games a lot more immersive (while still sitting on your ass) if it becomes cheap enough. That's my point. It's userbase collapsed right after it lost support from 30%, then stagnated, because the people still using it didn't bother to upgrade- possibly since they used it for consumer purposes only (ex. Gaming)- I still use it since it's a hella faster than Vista, 7, 8, or 10. 32 Bit should be the same way- most people would likely benefit from 64 bit over 32 Bit, which is why it should be pre-installed instead of 32-bit. No one pre-installs XP for the same reason. It would be nice to play VR SimCity :3 Plus, I think there are enough people wanting to buy VR COD to justify at least 1 or 2 gaming generations of VR. Maybe in 2100 the GDP/Person will be high enough that the average indoor living space per person will triple. :3 There's no space? Just build up! Ask my Sims in my SC4 game. :3 I wouldn't say it's impossible, just not yet. This was before I knew about 64 Bit actually being slower than 32 Bit. Like how we still have 8 Bit computers (wait wut?) Nintendo hardly showed off anything for it yet, not just anything new. They aren't too transparent when it comes to hardware- Sony keeps stealing their stuff. Do we know it's android-based? Other than Nivida supplying the chips, and probably being x86 based, not much else about the hardware. Also, the Xbox One is a 'one' entertainment system for your TV (hence the name), and is also competing with Smart TVs with the S version, unlike Nintendo's stuff. It should be as powerful as the Xbox One (in game capability )if it wants the 3rd party support to not be a failure like the U. Let's hope Iwata learned that lesson before he died, even if it's more expensive as a result. so what if you have more mods than 4GB of RAM? Aspyr wut? Adding cores wouldn't make SC2018 have extra performance to work with?
-
Huh. Strange that no one from NAM was brought in, since you guys are bascially the ultimate nerds of SC4. I could be wrong, but I thought RAM overuse was the reason why adding too many .dat files that aren't packed is an issue... or not. We didn't need more than 2 GB of RAM even for gaming back a decade ago. Now people are going apeshit saying that the Switch is underpowered, since it is probably going to be maxed out at 4 GB, even though the OS on Nintendo is as minimalistic as possible most of the time. You may not need it now, but eventually, everyone will be forced to 64-Bit and higher power computers, either because they want to play Civ 6, for processor-heavy buisness uses, or just because programmers become increasingly lazy as computer power improves. It kind of is- since you can't simulate motion in a home setting while still being somewhat reasonably affordable. (also, space concerns). Unless you were to drug the user, but that opens a whole new can of worms. Still, VR headsets are pretty much becoming the 'next big thing', the only thing keeping them back being high cost and low-power computers. So we have a drive to improve computers, at least for the time being, though Moore's law is probably starting to saturate. True, but installing your OS is still a pain in the butt that usually takes up a lot of time that could be used watching football. It's not like the PC gaming community is big enough to force manufacturers to pre-install 64-bit, because then the 32-bits would die about as fast as XP after losing support.

32-Bit applications can not use more than 2GB Memory. Just like 32-Bit operating systems can't access more than 3GB, these are system limitations. LAA simply allows a 32 bit application to use memory that would otherwise be reserved for the OS. I was more asking to where that patch was. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Is it in the Maxis patches? The problem comes in making large quantities of it. They recently made a meter squared of that stuff, so it might actually start becoming possible to mass produce it a decade or so. Considering the revolutionary potential of 2D atomic structure-based materials and alloys, I would really hate if this was a dead end, and not just a slow beast, like Nanotech. Still, business applications will push the needs for better tech for making applications, which then can make higher fidelity applications that consumers need. It's probably near the end point in the forseeable future in a VR version of SimCity Nope. From a former Maxis worker right after Maxis Emmeryville was shut down https://www.reddit.com/r/SimCity/comments/2xxvz1/ea_closes_maxis_emeryville/ He later goes on to sing EA's praises, despite being fired. We all wish we could fix that with just a (relatively) simple .dll... Microsoft is not EA. And SimCity 4 is anti-simple. Also, there is a newer alternative that looks better and could benefit from being fixed just as well. SimCity 2013 is single-threaded? Quoting the AVGN, "What were they thinking?" Geez, we could have used that performance for bigger maps! And potentially much better future-proof the game. Also, the fact you need to reinstall your OS for 64-bit is the primary reason.

??? They kind of did that for 2013, bringing in modders for feedback. Also, SimCity 4 is way too old at this point, they would do it on 2013 if they wanted to. Plus, it would be easier. It was probably EA, yeah. And the traffic sim is broken in a sense even in Cities Skylines and SimCity 2013 for similar reasons. I don't expect the Traffic Sim not to be broken on launch. Well, I tried. Graphene and Quantum Computing led by supercomputer and scientific needs?
-
If SimCity 4 was actually good at launch, more people would have bought it, and then the market would be bigger now... I don't believe computers are the problem, a modern home desktop in 2018 or 2020 would have far more power than in 2013 due to Moore's Law- though obviously, not everyone buys a new computer every year, so sacrifices will still have to be made. I would prefer statistics-based over limits (especially since traffic is the difficult part, not the actual city). But yeah, you're probably right. Unless they manage to constantly suck money from a specific SimCity game via expansion packs (2013 tried that- unfortunately, I don't think it worked, because that actually would have been pretty cool- of course, allowing mods freely would have been better), only relatively low profits could be made. Sort of like how people pay for major KSP (Kerbal Space Program) update packs- a sim that probably is about as complex as SimCity (4). Wonder why it failed, did users just drop off so fast? The old great sims of Roller Coaster Tycoon and SimCity- I don't want them to die. But Roller Coaster Tycoon is dead, Atari is bankrupt at this point. SimCity... well, if there is someone who wanted it, it could happen. Darn it, I just want SimCity 4-2! If it's partially broken on launch (like 4 and 2013), just make it easily moddable, please .

can you make something that prevents the game from crashing due to too many mods or multi-CPU usage?
-
Windows 10 does not have capability mode, so it's less stable. But yeah, it was just a suggestion. It may or may not be possible, something I acknoledged.
I know it probably isn't possible or worth it.
You should work on whatever you want, and fix things that are easier to fix.
-
-
I thought it might be the reason behind some stability issues in my game on WIndows 10. But maybe not.
It's probably more mod conflicts.

So a Tram in the road would share its el rail capacity with the road? Sorry for the misunderstanding- why does NRD-4 exist if it does the same thing as 3-lane roads? You're saying it's just to make things look prettier. OK. I don't want to get in a fight just over a question...

So upgrading a road from ASR-3 to NRD-4 will have no effect in reducing congestion? Well, that sucks. That also raises the question ofhow NRD-4 even survived in the first place, if the difference is merely cosmetic in effect. El rail is a skin of El Rail? What?

I have a large monorail network between 2 cities- one residential, another industrial/commerical. The monorail works inside each city map- but no passengers are using the neihbor connection connecting the residential to the industrial monorail network.... Some help please? BTW, I also have a SHR network going on a similar line to the monorail. I find that freight seems to not use the surface rail much.... I wonder if I should remove the surface rail to concentrate on monorail.

Questions about SimCity 4 transport

no matter, this worked, thanks. Seems to be a Windows 10 Permission problem. It might be a good idea to add that as a note to the NAM35 installer. Thanks. -
Questions about SimCity 4 transport

So try running it on administrator account or ask Microsoft customer support? I was wondering if this was a known problem with NAM on Windows 10, like on Mac. -
Also, sorry about this, but you still didn't answer my question- what is the difference between TLR-3, ASR-3, and NRD-4? Or for that matter, Tram, El Rail, and Subway. In SimCity 4, of course.

...so it's not worth even maintaining RTMT or lotblockers in NAM for capability? I know, but if you looked at my other thread, you would know what I'm trying to do (scale model of 1/6 of fu*king Antarctica), it's a little more reasonable. I would normally have a slope mod, but my map style doesn't allow for it.

How did we get here? In practice, a Tram-in-road would also have limited length due to passing over intersections- though still larger than buses-if adding more buses won't let you increase capacity much more without decreasing speed- you should already be looking at replacing it with a partially elevated HSR line, suck up the extra costs, and actually have something that would no longer have to deal with congestion limits. Plus, a lot more people use it due to being much faster- compared to LRT/Tram, which has ~0 speed benefit. They can be powered by electricity if you place a power line on top of a tram, or a bus. That's what they do with BRT here anyways. The main difference comes down to instead of rails, you have roads- which I would expect to be cheaper in the modern era. Again, automated automobiles pretty much destroys the last primary point to actually using BRT instead of Tram- they have similar speeds of 80km/h at the cost of lower capacities, but can also be used by local bus lines, reducing traffic overall. Also, a BRT line can have a park around it too right up to the road- the only difference being you can't put grass under the rails. But who cares, TBH. You're probably not allowed to walk on it except at crossings (for obvious reasons) http://www.thetransportpolitic.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Eugene-EmX.png at least entire streets are not replaced by mostly-useless cycling paths that are always empty, like in downtown Van. So do buses have right of way. The capacity is probably the only reason LRT is slightly better than BRT, but again, managing 20 2-3 car buses has much higher frequency than 5 Trams, and with an automated bus, that capacity argument declines significantly, since without humans, congestion decreases significantly. But yeah, I can see where you're coming from here, since the capacity would still be lower than LRT, which has 5-6 car trams. Thing is that Tram really a minor upgrade from BRT with the added infrastructral pains of dealing with a more expensive railed system, using systems exclusive to a Tram and not shared by either buses or even HSR. Indeed, but then that brings the question of why we didn't just rebuild the Saturn V. It's old, outdated AF, and probably needs to be rebuilt to modern standards. By which case, it's probably better to just pour asphalt over the rails. Also, regarding dedicated lines, There is ONE such line left in Vancouver- there were a lot more (interurban)- one was turned into skytrain/HSR (expo line- which is congested AF- I can only imagine the horror if it was LRT), one (south to Richmond, aka Chinatown 2.0) was also slated for skytrain/HSR, but ended up being left to rot while nearby streets were torn up for subways, and is now filled with the gardens of gardeners that are constantly being evicted, and the others in teh interurban were turned into surface diesel freight rail. The rest were streetcars paved over and no longer possible to use. Thus, there is one remaining LRT line that was abandoned and is probably never going to be used. Plus, it was never on an important traffic corridor, it took a major detour because of nearby hills. Under that situation, it's difficult to see how useful a LRT would be when so few old lines actually survived. Of course, Vancouver in 1900 was less dense than Bristol in 1900, but the ones that survived would likely be the exception, not the rule.

Anyone ever have any 1x1 I-M lots? + other mod questions
fredinno posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Anyone ever have any 1x1 I-M lots? There are 1x1 I-HT and I-D lots, but no I-M lots, making the industrial lots look ugly overall, with spaces that I can never get rid of.. ever. I'm also looking for 1x1 Parking lots, high density 2x2 C$ or C$$ lots (I know about Mary Hotel, but it has the same number of jobs as its 2x1 counterpart) Either that, or 1x2 CS$$ or C$ high density lots (hotels) I'm also looking for an ethanol refinery with jobs. I also want to recreate Trump's Wall, are there any puzzle pieces for this? hopefully within ONE menu item...thanks. One last question: What does the desirability increaser that Simgoober made in https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1382 do? Does it make I-HT desirability higher?
