All of this progress so far looks very promising! To see a hurricane disaster add-on for SC4... that would be very awesome to see! -
Assessment underway...
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
As always, nice work! Reading the reviews/reports of each tribe was definitely interesting! I wonder if and when the Slackers will get around to the message. The new place by the Activators is looking nice! Also, I can't wait for more updates regarding "Saving Magnasanti" too!- 4 Comments

A trip to the North - Part II
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
You have a great way to tell a story! I can imagine all of this happening. The circle design in the new city is genius! I wonder how the Localvores are going to respond to this inter-tribal contact from the Altruists. And I wonder what the radio signal could be... an announcement? Of peace? Of trade? Or is it music? I guess we shall see...- 5 Comments

A trip to the North - Part I
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
As always, very nice work here! You never know what's gonna happen next in this city journal, and given it's also interactive, it's more than just a fun "look and read"! I voted - I wonder what the final verdict will be...- 3 Comments

I LOVE my Sound Blaster AE-9. Might be pricey (second most expensive part of my new rig I built last year) but for an internal sound card, it's the best one I've ever heard. Creative makes some good USB Sound Blaster cards too - the X-Fi HD is superb and I'm looking into the Sound Blaster X7 here soon for a project of mine. Anyways.. I'm rambling I'll have to check out that DSOAL at some point. I don't have a 5.1 setup currently but one day I'd like to have one.

What is your city trademark?
TogaMasterJohn replied to SIM-ple Jack's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I usually like to plop an Ames Department Store (another defunct chain) or some other dead or dying retail chain (like Kmart). It's nice to see them live on in the game. Every once in a while I'll plop a "living" retail store like Meijer in a city as well. Sometimes I'll plop a couple of dead/living retail stores in; it really depends on the city. -

To check to see if XP Compatibility mode is enabled for the game, right click on the shortcut on your desktop or Start menu (preferably the game's executable, which should be something like "C:\GOG Games\SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition") and select "Properties" - from there, click on the "Compatibility" tab. On this tab, you will be presented with various options. Look for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" option. Chances are it will say "Windows XP" as the operating system to 'simulate'. If the checkbox is checked, uncheck it. If it's greyed out and you can't modify it, try clicking on the "Change settings for all users" - some people online have had issues with not being able to modify the compatibility mode and settings for some programs. If that doesn't work, there are other possible solutions... but there are several possible fixes that may or may not work. It's a bit of a crapshoot, sadly. Here's an article/tutorial that explains how you might be able to get it to work (it may require more research and testing out various settings). The game is a 32-bit program. If you see "SC4Fix r7", you must have the SC4Fix .DLL in your main Plugins folder. Have you tried running this game as administrator? That would be a thing to try if so (check the "Run this program as an administrator" option under the Compatibility tab). It might be set by default by the GOG installer, but alas I can't remember. I know I usually run the game as an adminstrator, as some older games generally won't work well if at all without running them as an administrator. Usually the diagnostic tools or the compatibility assistant tool under Windows is pretty worthless - the game is known to run on Vista or higher Windows operating systems with little to no issues (with patches like SC4Fix). Sometimes the tool will work and sometimes it won't. It just depends on the program in question. That method is one of the suggested options for changing the compatibility mode options if the normal way is greyed out. Is the game itself not working or is more issues arising? I just want to clarify! Upgrading to Windows 10 - that is up to you. Some people (like myself) have chosen to continue using Windows 7 either to play the game or to use as our main operating system (as for me, I use both Windows 7 and Linux Mint) for various reasons that would take a while to explain. Using Windows 7 isn't recommended for everyone, especially if you go online to browse lots of websites (unless you have a really good A/V and firewall software) or if you do a lot of important tasks for work, etc. For some people, it might be best for them to upgrade to Windows 10. It also depends on what else you use the computer for as well and what programs you use. Some things may or may not work under Windows 10. I'd recommend looking over everything, assess your needs and wants, and be sure to make a backup of everything before upgrading if you do decide to upgrade. That being said, it's entirely up to you. I hope this helps and I'll continue to help as much as I am able to!

It appears that you might be running this in Windows XP compatibility mode. This seems to be set by the GOG installer for the game. From what I have read, it's best to disable/turn off the compatibility mode for the game. It seems as if the compatibility mode causes more issues than it does good on some systems. It doesn't seem to be a necessary thing to apply. I'm not sure if this might be the cause of the most recent crash, but this is something I would suggest disabling/turning off to be on the safe side of things.

AWESOME!!! very nice work! -
I forgot all about the lost airports! Those are very cool. Only if SC3K had larger city tiles! I wonder if they did anything special like this with the seaports. Who knows! As for me, I'd love to know more about the unused military zone... really nice discovery, too!

Grinburg is founded
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
As always, very nice work! I can really imagine this happening as it goes along. Grinburg looks like it'd be a fun place to visit or to live in - same with Farmington! I wonder what the Reverred Spirits of the St'ropoli Dimension will say for the Activators...- 4 Comments

It's possible. Any build prior to September 2001 might have it in there. Chances are it could be in the original SimCity 3000.

How to configure SC4 to work with your new hardware
TogaMasterJohn replied to Morofry's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I have an AMD Radeon RX550 4GB graphics card from Biostar. Are you needing the hardware ID / chip ID? If so, I can check mine here in a bit for you (I'm away from my PC at the moment)! -

Tropical Weather Expansion
TogaMasterJohn replied to TropicalWeatherEP's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
I look forward to it! This is truly some awesome work here! The possibility of a new disaster is quite groundbreaking. Alas I don't know much about the EffectDir personally, other than the river/stream effect that was never used in the game until (I want to say) Cori discovered it. It's pretty neat but more information is needed about the EffectDir to make it even better (it might be possible to add some ripples and white caps to the rivers/streams). Seeing the ability to do something like this is really awesome! I'm going to mention @Raymond7cn (for whenever he's able to come here again) - if I remember correctly, Ray was interested in the EffectDir and everything about it, and I'm sure he'd love to check out this wonderful thread! -
Military zones?! Hmm.... sounds like yet another possible leftover. Funny to think of too, as SC4 has an unimplemented and unfinished military zone as well. Early prototypes and beta screenshots of SC4 indicated the use of some SC3K assets, so I wonder how much they borrowed or reimplemented from SC3K. I remember reading about how all of the SC3K ordinances are in SC4 but none of them were implemented: https://tcrf.net/SimCity_4

WOAH!!! Those are some funny and rather amusing results from your tests! I wonder if it would be possible to make a regular square in between 64x64 and 256x256. I wonder if the map size restrictions are limited to just the executable or if it's tied into SYS.PAK somewhere.

If there was a SimCity style game being made...
TogaMasterJohn replied to DCottrell's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
From what I have read here on Simtropolis, it sounds like there was an expansion pack planned after Rush Hour that focused on nature and the environment side of things (salt water and desalinization plants from SC2K and SC3K, anyone?). -
Ah! I have been meaning to comment on this thread to see how this mod is coming along for the past couple of weeks but alas I kept forgetting to do so! I've been following this for quite some time now. Anyways, I haven't tested this mod yet (it looks really cool and I like the premise!), but I use SPAM to replace the vanilla Maxis farms. It makes me wonder if there might be a workaround or a fix for this issue. In the mean time I'd probably play around with this mod on a different machine.

I'm going to ping @CorinaMarie - she might know! (hope you don't mind, Cori!) And Merry Christmas, too! I really enjoy this topic! It'd be cool to see a hurricane disaster in some sort of manner for the game, even if it was just for looks (hopefully it can be a fully functional disaster!).
