  1. :P, linked it in the top post. This is the launcher I use btw: If you are still having issues can you post a screenshot of your Apps folder and of your dxWrapper.ini file? Or jump in the SC4D discord and I can lend a hand there :).
  2. Try using the Windowed mode rather than the borderless one. dxWrapper does provide some tools for getting real borderless windowed working which I do intend on investigating. I suspect using it across two monitors means unless you use nVidia Surround or similar you won't be able to run real fullscreen. Personally I use the other SC4 Launcher but it shouldn't make a single difference.

Excellent use of the MHO short L0-L1 transitions! I always forget about those, but they are super great in tight, compact spaces! You might be missing a transition in the bottom right though !

Current Region Project - currently at ~255,000 pop, this is a snapshot of the South-West corner of the region.
  5. Hello all, I thought this might be a useful comparison for those of us who've considered using a RAMDisk to load SC4 files from. On my rig it would seem there is little benefit however I concede that my RAM isn't exactly optimal or super-modern and my SSD is only SATA III so results may vary. I found it interesting though that the SSD managed to pretty much keep pace! Thoughts welcome, as are other peoples experiences!
  6. My theory is SC4 just can't take advantage of anything more than what a SATA III SSD can provide speed wise, I would potentially guess the small improvement in speed for the loading of a tile is the random access speeds of a RAMDisk (it is random access memory after all :P, not that that's how this works) rather than the more sequential loading of the desktop to region load. Since tiles have a lot of different plugins references plugins scattered across a large plugins folder perhaps the RAMDisk ever so slightly can skip around faster, but as you say its not enough to be worth all the hassle. I think the biggest thing SC4 could benefit from is a super fast single core speed. Alas I don't have any access to anything faster than my still relatively speedy 4790.
  7. Nice video Rob! One thing to note in relation to the "corrupt" city files you talked about (specifically in relation to the save and exit to region/desktop) is that a blank preview does not necessarily mean a corrupt city file. For instance doing a quick save (Ctrl + Alt + S by default) then the city tile won't have a region preview and yet it will be a perfectly fine save! It can also be caused by losing focus on the SC4 window while saving (with any kind of save! save and exit to region/desktop included!) by clicking off to another window, alt-tabbing etc. Note that sometimes (especially on heavily modded large city tiles with lots of development) the game does this anyway - I find if it does this, to let it save, then save again immediately after which usually means it won't lose focus (and update your region preview). In saying that I do HIGHLY recommend only using (Ctrl + S) saving or quick save (Ctrl + Alt + S) to save your cities! So folks don't give up hope if your region has a blank tile! Go into the city and try saving again! -Billy
  8. Random freezes occur, everything stops and buttons are unclickable but the cursor is fine (C:S style) and even goes away when I middle click and drag as if to move the FOV. Any idea whats going on? End of output log here: https://pastebin.com/e36bFwwc
  9. Tried that, and reinstalling the latest.
  10. https://steamcommunity.com/linkfilter/?url=https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/929303676574856972/C67ECAF3CEC9F359E42E3574CFA1659EECC02091/ When I load an old save this happens (new city loads fine) - grey screen with weird completely white people doing weird animations. Any ideas on what is causing this? I thought it was a missing mod, or perhaps the incompatibility with Advanced Toolbar and 81+ tiles but still shows that with only Loading Screen mod loaded - is my save unsaveable? The thumbnail seems fine, as does an autosave 5 minutes later.
  11. Tribute to A Nonny Moose

I haven't been active on here for a long time but I had an urge a day or two to check up on this place, and yes to see if John had reached 50k posts. Then I saw the moose at the top and my heart sank. Thank you Nonny for your absolute dedication to this wonderful place. I am deeply sorry to hear of your passing, my regards and condolences to all.
  12. Update 6: Lakeview

Replies Evandad: If my plugins will co-operate. Sandroalexis: Thanks! We travel South-East through unseen Hugle suburbia to the small town of Lakeview- Overlooking Lake Lin. Lined with clean and beautiful beaches the lake is a boat free zone. Many surfing and swimming tournaments are held here as well as the region wide famous, most grueling, and toughest Lakeview Triathlon. With a steadily growing population of 100,000+ mass transit systems have been put in place. Lakeview boasts the most complex tram/subway system in the region. The subway is for express transit underground where as the Tram system on ground is for slower usually short journeys to work and back. If you want to fill up with gas here is the place. Gas Stations are a plenty in Lakeview with an astonishing 100 servos around the lake. Companies include BP, Caltex and Shell. Here is a picture of a servo complex common in Lakeview. The tram system boasts a historic beach line where the W Class trams run. W Class trams do run on the other lines as well. Here is a picture of the historic Tram going down the line. As well as the Beach line the main trunk lines run through the housing and job districts in the roads. Mansions have found the beautiful real estate by the beach and have been building up madly. Most lines are connected by tram roundabouts or 'Tramabouts'. Here is a Tram going through the roundabout. In the centre of these Tramabouts are bus and subway stops. These are disability friendly and buses and subways run regularly. Cost of a 2 hour ticket for the mass transit system (Tram, Bus, Subway) is 5 simoleons. We finish off with a picture of the overview of Lakeview. To the southern end of development is a K-Mart. Thanks for reading this entry. Please rate according to the level of my entry. Also 1+ if you particularly liked this entry and comment below to give me suggestions. Next update we travel to the oil fields of Hugle and why there are so many service stations around.

  14. Mojave Texture Development: Phase 0b

Great stuff Ganaram! One thing on the sidewalk "notch" issue, you could convert the diagonal networks to models not textures and have overhanging sidewalks (but they would not change by wealth would they?) much like how PS does diagonals. I don't know if this would work and if they could be at a Y=+0.1 of say grass textures on houses (so they go overtop) but could be worth considering. -Billy
  15. Rio 2016 Project

Ones to make the roads look more Brazilian? I'm not sure if there needs to be any changes though -Billy
  16. Rio 2016 Project

Just wondering guys if you need someone to do transit textures for you to give a more Rio feel. I don't know how much work you would need but I might be able to do some textures for you. -Billy

  18. As of this message I believe it will be January 1st, 2015 (almost?) everywhere. I am not running the competition or anything, I am just letting people know the competition is technically closed (if we are still following the rules most recently revised by Hamish). Good luck to everyone! -Billy
  19. Best Rock song ever!

Metal is awesome. Iron Maiden. Black Sabbath. Whitesnake... hmmm... are they metal? Maybe hard rock. I have a strong liking for one of the first metal guys, Alice Cooper, esp. "Poison." (The band of the same name is good too.) I never was much of a fan of Guns 'n Roses. I think it's the singer. I have the same problem with AC/DC. That's not a vocal style I particularly care for. My favorites right now are modern symphonic metal bands. Nightwish. Apocalyptica. Kamelot. All awesome! (Nightwish's newest singer, Floor Jansen, is astonishingly good.) Okay, here's a question from me to everyone: I like Black Veil Brides and Escape the Fate. However, I find that they are constantly derided as "emo" and "screamo" bands. I'm really scratching my head on this one. I see very little difference between them and classic metal bands of the 80s. Is there a difference? Am I missing something here? I mean, good lord, look at the band of BVB. They are clearly channelling KISS! Metal is awesome! I wish people would understand that some if not most metal is actually cool stuff - and has origins in classical music. Disregarding the vocals of AC/DC and GnR, the actual guitar parts are amazingly written (well AC/DC is mostly chords but there are some cool riffs - Back in Black, Thunderstruck anyone?). The 80's produced what I find to have the best and worst in music . Glam/Hair Metal can be both but some of Van Halen's stuff is just amazing. Even now bands like Steel Panther channel their inner 80's in their music (mind you they are a parody band). Poison, Mötley Crüe, KISS, etc all came out of that era and produced classic songs. -Billy

The Banana Interchange? In any case that is one funky Partial Y Those TuLEPs were just there before the loop ramps . The loops are just a modern addition? I dunno. In any case great work both of you. -Billy
