  9. Thanks for the comments folks. @Eltdown: Thanks for the additional info which is very useful. I have updated my pages with it and will re-upload them in a minute. I would love to do a commemorative BAT of the Maths building but I don't know it well enough. If you have any pics, let me have them and I'll see what I can do. @Wallasey: No, The Metrolink shop was still under construction when I visited. All the glass cladding is in place so it should nearly be finished I would have though.
  10. Starchitect Discussion Thread

I must say, I am not keen at all on this style of building where the structure looks more like a sculpture than a building. It is anything but functional and must cost a lot kore to build than a standard building. It is pure arrogance.
  11. 1960s Multistorey Car Park and Bus Station

Yes, The Castle is very Brutalist! I am planning some office blocks in that style.
  12. Centroid Federal Building

This is good, very 1960s! It will ideal in my cities
  13. Birmingsfield: UK Style Industrial City Journal

carwick_returns: The station you are searching for is by Frogface and you can find it in his recently released 'unifinished' pack. It's a very good station and indeed one I use quite a lot.
  14. A UK village

Wow, this is a great CJ! How do you get so many UK buildings to grow, like Gascooker's houses and RP2005's shops? They just will not grow in any great quantity for me, I just get about a hundred American houses with maybe one or two British ones in between. It's a shame there isn't a way of deleting the American houses.
  15. is there order?

Yes, that's right. I try and develop my cities as realistically as possible. When the time comes for motorways (freeways), particuarly those major arteries leading to city centre, it's time for some Urban Renewal. Basically, demolishing buildings to make way for the new road network. This happened a lot in the UK in the 1950s and 60s and explains why these major roads are surrounded by relatively modern buildings. Roads to start off with, then canals (if you're using them), then railways, then avenues, then motorways. El-rail and subways have been around nearly as long as conventional rail.
  16. Industrial Revolution Museum

Ah, perfect! I was looking for some industrial revolution heritage and here it is!
  17. Liuzhou grand hotel

Wow, very good! Very 1960s as well. Rotating restaurants were very much a 60s fad, there was one at the top of the BT Tower in London but it closed years ago.
  18. is there order?

Ah, but the majority of cities developed over time...from a day when motorways/freeways etc didn't exist. There are two main types of towns/cities - radial and linear. Linear is when a settlement develops along the route of a road. It is by far most common for villages. Radial is where roads radiate from the city in different directions towards other settlements. I try and build my SC4 cities with this in mind - starting them off as a village and then expanding them into a city over time. With regards the order, I almost always start off with roads to lay out the shape of my city. I then put in enough zones to get it started, a power station and water pump then get it started and gradually expand it. I usually rip down large sections of my cities anyway and do 'urban regeneration' projects.
  19. The United Kingdom Of Cordovia - A Royal Affair

  20. HM Royal Dockyard Portsmouth Nelsons Gate

    Superb!!! This is VERY useful!
  21. Brutalist Architecture Discussion Thread!

Wow, that is one scary building!!! Anyway, i've just returned from a short holiday 'Up North' in Liverpool and Manchester and I have some photos of Brutalism (I will post a separate thread with all my photos later when I've sorted them all out!) Manchester's CIS Tower. The taller part of the tower was 'Too Brutalist' so it is currently being clad in blue panels. Brutalist commercial building on Church Street, Manchester. Manchester Arndale Centre. The whole thing used to be like this but a lot of it has been reclad in a more contemporary style. This is the base of a very high new tower block currently going up - however this is VERY Brutalist in style although the black cladding separates it from its 60s counterparts. Manchester's Hotel Piccadilly, a fascinating and magnificent example of Brutalism. The spiral park ramp is very similiar to that used at Portsmouth's now gone Tricorn Centre. Another view of the Hotel Piccadilly: Stockport's Merseyway shopping centre. Half of it has been Postmodernised but the other half remains intact as a fine example of 60s retail architecture. Even the clock has a 60s styling to it! A very bland example of Brutalism is seen in this Stockport Debenhams store. I love the 'Music World' building here...I've never seen anything like it but it just shouts 60s. Marks & Spencer's, Liverpool. An interesting design. Like all architectural styles, there are some HIDEOUS examples of Brutalism. This Royal Sunalliance building in Liverpool is far too big, very ugly and totally in the wrong place. It looks to me though like late Brutalism (late 60s/early 70s) which is not a nice style. Another example of bad Brutalism is this court building - again in Liverpool. Like the Sun alliance building, it's in the wrong place and come on, is salmon pink stucco on a Brutalist building ever going to look anything other than awful? Give it a paint job and it would look better. I stumbled across this little gem quite by accident. It's the St Johns Market Hall, Liverpool and it has a superb vaulted ceiling. It's seemingly impossible to get any views from the outside of it. This scene is just so 60s, I love it! One of the strangest buildings I have ever seen and it took me a while to figure out what it was. Any guesses? This photo has 2 for the price of one, the Brutalist fire station in the foreground and the Radio City tower behind it. The RC Tower was built in the 60s and was originally a revolving restaurant but it closed down in the 70s and was derelict until a few years ago when Radio City FM took it over and fitted it out as their radio studios. As an amatuer radio broadcaster, I had the honour of being given a guided tour of the studios and taking lots of photos of the view from up there. Superb! Last, but definitely not least, is the Metropolitan Cathedral, Liverpool. Again, it has Brutalist elements but I wouldn't really describe it as Brutalist:
