  1. Twinkle, twinkle, little BAT...

Woops, forgot to add - I'll need some help with the numbers when I'm lotting these - I defer to the experts and more seasoned players/BATers/modders when it comes to appropriate values for capacity, power, water, etc. I have downloaded SC4Tools and have done a little delving, but a lot of these little shops are small affairs - usually only one or two working in that front room reading the cards and the teas leaves and whatnot...so I will be asking more questions soon...
  2. MP Mikes Mini Mart

Gorgeous, great details and textures - I love the urban slummy quality of these...good stuff!
  3. Low Wealth Mega Lot Set Vol02

Thanks for the heads up on the garage file - I didn't want to miss out on these lots! Great variety for those R$ areas of town...
  4. Goobers Nuts

This one makes me laugh - and it grows like a weed in some of my cities. Some areas I'll get three or four of them popping up next to each other...(that and Steve's Adult Bookstore from the NIMBY set)...
  5. Crime problem...

I've noticed this sort of anamoly, too, but with universities - once I've built one, I keep getting a message that the area at the upper left corner of the university is a "den of crime," and no matter where I plunk down a police station near there, it will still occur from time to time. And then two grid squares over, I get the "Mayor rocks according to city blocks" ticker message. Go figure. I just chalk it all up to some glitch and go merrily on my way...
  6. Los Angeles California

Wow, this is pretty impressive - how far north "over the hill" and into the valley have you gone? Or are you just sticking with the (323) and the (213) areas? (Just wondering if I'll be seeing my apartment in Burbank anytime soon in your screenshots...) Heheheheh...
  7. Help with stats

Quick question - I'm assuming it falls under this category. So I've churned out a couple of CS$ buildings and rendered them in BAT. Is this a good forum category to come and get advice as to realistic numbers for the next step in the Plug-In Manager with adding stats? Specifically, I've created a few low wealth, cheesy "new age shops" - palm readers, psychics, tarot card readers, new age bookstores - (I hadn't found anything like this on the STEX and thought it would add some flavor to the CS$ buildings in stage 1 and stage 2). I had fun researching and coming up with the buildings, but now that they're built, I'd just like some help with getting their stats right in-game... Let me know if this is the correct area of the forum to get advice re: this. Thanks! :-)
  8. Help with stats

Thanks - the fortune-telling type businesses I based them off are typically single or two or three people working there, and I'd assume this sort of thing would be either stage 1 or stage 2 CS$. As to the other stats, such as demand satisfied and what-not, I have no idea and I figured there are wiser sages on this forum that would steer me in the right direction...I will check out SC4Tools, as I don't think I have that yet... I don't have a BAT thread running; once I get the buildings up and screenshotted, I guess I can start one in the BAT forum and get some guidance there. Thanks!
  9. RLS Small Shops

Perfect for the CS$ variety we so desperately need in this game. Now I won't see rows and rows of the stupid Maxis diner in my cities...great work!
  10. BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion

Well, after I posted, I was messing around with the Editable Poly vertexes, and was able to basically do what you described. In hindsight, I agree it would be easier to work with a standard primitive rather than a spline, but since I was going to add roof edging to add to the appearance of volume/thickness/extrusion, I just stuck with the edited splines, UVW mapped them, applied the texture, and went about creating my edging... Thanks for the confirmation - now I'm back to the roof! :-)
  11. BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion

I'm a newbie to gmax, and I've been searching through the threads for a while, but haven't found any info as to my current problem... I'm attempting to create a roof which requires modifying intersecting planes. I've stumbled around trying to get rid of the portions of the planes that I don't want, but haven't been able to figure it out. I'm attaching a screen capture in gmax and a ref pic of what I'm trying to do... So I've created two spline rectangles, attached Edit Spline and Edit Mesh to them. How do I get rid of the portions A and B, while still retaining the portions 1 and 2 of these two planes? Many thanks to all you gurus of BATing and gmax....I look forward to a reply...
  12. Hello, Once you've made a custom BAT and lot that's growable, what are good tried and true methods of "testing" it? That is, how do I test to see if it's actually going to grow? Is the best way loading up a huge city save file, and deleting/bulldozing the zone type until the Random Number Gods favor me and pick my creation? Short of emptying my plug-ins folder of everything but the newbie, are there any quick ways? (And by quick, I mean within an hour or so...I just did the hunt/delete method on a large city and couldn't get my new lot to grow for over two hours...and it's a CS$$ stage 1 according to the Lot Editor.) Any ideas/methods/help/ephemera is appreciated.... :-)
  13. Andys Gun Works

Thanks for the kind words, folks. Yes there are indeed nightlights - since Andy lives on the upper floor, there are a couple of windows that light up. There are a couple of very weak spotlights on the sign, but since it's not really readible at any zoom level I didn't tweak them too much or make them too bright.
  14. MP Subway Apts

Your textures are always so impressive...great work on this entire series of lots. They have a nice, realistic, gritty urban feel which is refreshing sometimes... :)
  15. I've gone through the tutorials and finally was able to get something that I feel is halfway decent. I did a custom building and built/searched/modified all my own textures for it...if I were to post it on the exchange, would said textures be considered dependencies and if so, how would I go about including them in the upload? The props and lot textures are (as near as I can tell) all of the standard Maxis variety. It's the building textures I'm concerned about - do I need to include those in any form? Many thanks for an answer - I apologize if this has been asked in another place, but it is past 4:00 a.m. while I type this, and my search fu is weak...
  16. Okay, so I've made a BAT and lot...

Ahhh, I gotcha. Thanks for the answer!
  17. MP Budget Inn Hotel

Ah cool, I was looking for something like this - I think there's only one residence hotel in the Maxis lots, and this will add some variety...thanks!
  18. MP Low W2W Apts 03

The bars on the windows are a nice touch.
  19. The Bates Motel

"Oh, God, mother! Mother! Blood! Blood!" This is great. I can hear the violins playing in the background as I download this..."we all go a little mad sometimes." You should make a quicksand/swamp park to go along with this, so Norman can sink Marion's car... :)
  20. DK1 Small Stores

"Hey, man, can I get a Gatorade?" ;-) I would never have thought to search for this, so glad I stumbled on it!
  21. DK1 Gas Stations

These look great - much better than the standard growable ones that Maxis/EA created. Great job!
  22. DK1 Convenience Stores

Great - now I can mumble "strange things are afoot at the Circle K" when I see it growing in my commercial district. Thanks, these look swell!
  23. NIMBY Collection 1

People still use the word "heathen"? ;) LOL great work for an added realistic feeling to any city...
  24. Club Deja Vu Showgirls

Great job! The cheesy burlesque music when you click on it with the query tool is a great touch....2 thumbs (or legs?) up!
  25. Starbucks Coffee House

This is great - now to go put one at every intersection in my city....
