Great to see that you're still at it, MHB. The youtube channel "City Planner Plays" just uploaded a SC4 video and I recommended you to anyone who is interested in the game. For me, it goes: Install SC4 Install NAM Install everything MHB ever made Everything else!- 1,133 Replies

BAT - Getting Started Guide / FAQ / Resources / Help
benvoliothefirst replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Jason, thanks so much for all this info. As someone who has started and stopped BATting on multiple occasions, I recognize all the time and effort that must've gone into this. -
I've been away a while and completely missed this beginning of this thread, but as an avid player of every SimCity game this is giving me all sorts of nostalgia. Glad to see so many talented people still here on the boards. JP Schriefer, I don't recognize your name, but I've been missing lately. The BAT is beautiful! Welcome!

Boston 2.0 - finally most of the snowfall related issues solved

WOW! That is an ambitious project. As a resident of Manchester NH who frequently visited Boston and actually lived there for a few years, you've certainly captured the clusterfoulup that is the Big Dig at least in spirit! Keep up the great work!- 70 Replies

I'm having a lot of fun going back and forth between SC4 and 2013. The differences really are night and day. Nothing like trying to "spin" the view in SC4 and realizing you're stuck in that top-down perspective! Considering I (still!) played that game for like ten years (OMG!) it's funny how quickly I forget, hehe.

What Does This Community Need?
benvoliothefirst replied to TheCraftKid's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Great topic! As someone who came to SimCity 2013 pretty late in the game, after all the patches and expansions, I know the thing that really bothered me was trying to recapture abandoned cities and not being able to do so. It always said I was missing some DLC that the existing city used, so I bought it ALL (to the tune of like... I don't know how much money but I'm sure it was at least half the cost of the damn game over again...) and STILL couldn't recapture those cities. Okay, EA, you GOT me, I'm the reason DLC exists and I should be ashamed. But that's some pretty awful abuse of the system. I found out through some digging that apparently there's some REGION-SPECIFIC DLC that I can't get without having to mess with VPNs... that's too much IT nonsense for a layman like myself. Pretty frustrating. -

I just wanted to let you know that after a total reinstall of Windows (7) on my hope laptop, I was inspired to reinstall SimCity 4 so that I could update my plugins folder with all your wonderful creations, madhatter! The new buildings remind me of something out of the Archer spy cartoon. I mean that as the highest compliment! Keep your beautiful buildings coming!- 1,133 Replies

solution Why you get there error when you claim abandoned cities on multiplayer
benvoliothefirst replied to SkylarWeston's topic in SimCity (2013) Technical Help Q&A
Well hey, if this works, it's terrific news! I just got done buying all the damn DLC (YOU'RE WELCOME EA, YOU MOTHEROFASOMETHINGOROTHERS!!!) and I was beyond frustrated that I STILL can't seem to get at all these freaking cities. Hopefully this finally gets me back some measure of control. I could certainly use some more information, though. Which VPN service did you use? Is it possible to download this content even if you DON'T go through a VPN? Looks like there's even more of an inventment for such a service, and after giving EA ninety (!!!) frickin' dollars for the game so far, I really can't justify more. This coming from a guy who bought SC4 like four times at retail... I'm really starting to understand why everyone apparently just pirates games these days... I WANT to buy the game legally but it's such a hassle I'm ready to just give up. -
North American East 3 - Active
benvoliothefirst replied to GavTape's topic in SimCity (2013) Region Games
Hey guys, count me in! Also I'm wondering, do any of you know if it matters which number server you use in a region? In other words, since I'm in Manchester NH, north of Boston, I'm obviously using North America East, but should I be using server #1,2, or 3? Should it make a difference? -
Speculation & Discussion
benvoliothefirst replied to waybig's topic in SimCity (2013) Modding - Open Discussion
I agree, JayS_NL. Part of the reason I never got a single BAT released for SC4 was all the implementation problems with creating a good model, texturing it, and then converting it into the SC4 game-ready formats. Seems like keeping it a low-poly 3D model would be a few steps simpler and might just be more fun, too. Anybody have any info on how "batting" in SC4 would even WORK? I'm sure it's all still speculation right now, but I am curious as to whether there's any thoughts at all around the site, haven't seen anything yet. -
SimCity 2013 or stick to SimCity 4?
benvoliothefirst replied to sebkinkart's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Great thread! I'm in a similar boat sebkinart. I played the heck outta SC4 for ten years, and I think I've really exhausted all the fun I can get out of that game. But I certainly got my money's worth, despite having bought the game in no less than three editions. And I almost pulled the trigger on getting it in a fourth incarnation when I found out the Steam version would save me some reinstallation hassles. The biggest reason I'm considering Simcity 2013 is multicore processing. After playing SC4 on no less than five different computers, I've come to the sad realization that a computer that can play SC4 at top speed with a gigabyte-sized plugins folder (!) will simply never exist. We were getting close and then processors went multicore and SC4 can only use one. Ah well. But 2013 is different. And I'm excited for the potential. Hopefully this community's very, VERY talented and dedicated modding community can address some of the shortcomings of the game, the same way they did with SC4. Now that we've finally got an offline mode, hopefully city size and "batted" buildings are in the pipeline. And I'm wondering, when the "plus" version goes on sale, how much less is it? It's currently $40 on EA's site. Should I wait to buy? -
Saving SC4 on a server
benvoliothefirst replied to digitized.abyss's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
This is a really interesting idea. I hope to eventually have a similar setup for my music and media, so that I can access my music library and movies from any computer in the house. Having all my SimCities 4 in the central server would be very beneficial too. Unfortunately having said that, I'm a complete amateur at networking so I can't really add much to the discussion. Good luck, though! I'd probably just use dropbox if it was possible. -

Well, it certainly "does what it says on the tin." Your concept is just about as straightforward as it gets. There's no mistaking this for anything other than a BMW-centric building. I hope you had fun creating it, and that this first release motivates you to keep working with gmax and creating custom content. It's always great to have a new member in the community. It's certainly a great example of how to make a round building, and I like that it's been nightlit. Everything seems to work together. Is the ground plane/lot your own creation? If so it shows a great deal more creativity and effort than lots of people are willing to put into this hobby. Now, having said all that, I think that the building is kind of a one-trick pony, and there's a very small market for people who want a museum that looks like a giant BMW logo sitting in the middle of their city. Architecturally I'd want to see more details to make the building believable. Can you take the cars in the museum out of a round garage and then drive them around a circular test track inside? If so then it's brilliant! If not then I'd like to see some doors and windows in the upper floors. In all, it's a great first BAT, like IAHFCN (great name!) said. Keep working on your conceptual skills, and welcome to the community.
