U.S. Skylines

Today, we're returning to the United States to cover a few more of the country's most stunning skylines. After already taking a look at the iconic skylines of New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago in previous updates - we'll be viewing St. Louis, Portland, Houston, and Philadelphia today.

St. Louis, Missouri

We begin in the Midwest - with our first stop being St. Louis. This major city sits right on the Mississippi River and is home to the iconic Gateway Arch, which towers 630 feet above the surrounding skyscrapers. It holds the title of being the tallest man made monument in the United States and serves as a symbol of the city's past - a true "Gateway to the West" for pioneers.

Portland, Oregon

Located in the United States' Pacific Northwest, Portland has one of the United States' most unique skylines with a mix of historic buildings and post modern skyscrapers like the 509 foot tall KOIN Tower. The "City of Roses" sits right under the shadow of Mt. Hood, and can offer some stunning panoramas:

It's usually rainy here, but snowfalls can happen during the winter months - it's always a special sight.

Houston, Texas

We're headed to the South for our next city - Houston. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, oil production was booming and the city's skyline saw massive growth, with the 1,002 foot tall JPMorgan Chase Tower (1982) and 992 foot tall Wells Fargo Bank Plaza (1983) rising above the rest. A massive oil glut however soon followed and the city's skyline became stagnant for decades - but construction has picked back up in recent years.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Our last stop today will be on the East Coast - where we'll visit the "City of Brotherly Love" and home of the Philly Cheesesteak - Philadelphia. Once the capital of the United States, it's a city noted for its historic buildings like Independence Hall and Philadelphia City Hall - but in recent years, the skyline has been growing rapidly as well. With the 1,121 ft tall Comcast Technology Center (2018) and the 974 ft tall Comcast Center (2008) joining an already impressive skyline - it's truly one of the country's most stunning skylines.

@bladeberkman Thanks for the comment! Glad you liked it *:thumb:

@tariely Thanks for the nice words! I made the circular harbour using a total of 7 different overhanging props I made in 3dsmax. I terraformed the layout of the harbour first and then plopped the lots with the props on them right on top of it.

@RobertLM78 Thanks for the comment! I'm always glad to hear that one of my entries got someone interested in the city I'm working on *:thumb: Glad you enjoyed the Eko scene as well.

@AndisArt Thanks for the kind words! For this update it was all about showcasing the potential of lot editor work and custom BATs/props made in 3dsmax. Glad you enjoyed it *:thumb:

@Krasner Thanks for the nice words - and great songs as well *:thumb: Unfortunately, I haven't found out yet how to convert SD props to HD *:P So for those buildings I had to make a special request to @Maloskero to render a couple buildings for me in HD! Big thanks to him *:)

@The British Sausage Thank you! *:)

@tonyr Thank you! *:thumb:

@SimRico Thanks for the comment! *:)

@mike_oxlong Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it *:)

@SC4L0ver Thank you *:thumb: I'm glad you liked the timeline concept, I'm thinking about possibly doing more entries along those lines so we'll see where it goes *;)

@Angry Mozart Thank you very much! I'm glad I was able to capture the essence of the city in this entry *:)

@elavery Thanks - glad to hear that from someone who's been to the city! The mosque is my own creation and the circular harbour was made up of big custom made overhanging props.

@Urban Constanta Thanks for the nice words! Trying to get everything STEX ready would be a monumental task that I'm still working on - but in the meantime if there's anything you're interested in particular, send me a PM and I'll see what I can do *;)

@Androgeos It's one of the main reasons why I decided to do the scene. Glad you enjoyed it *:thumb:

Beautiful. :golly:

Were there any custom props used? Everything looks like it came from either the STEX or LEX, in which case this could be yet another telling testament to what the community has made over the years.

Wow!! :ohyes: Love your rendition of these lesser-known (in comparison to NY or LA *:D) but still stunning skylines. Great job once again!!

As a St. Louis native, this is very well done.  I would, however, love to see your take on the recently reopened Arch Grounds with the "lid" over I-70.

Yo Philly!  It's Philly in SC4!  They all look spectacular, but I'm super happy to see my hometown in SC4!

Terrific. I've been to the rooftop bar overlooking Busch Stadium a few times. Clearly SC4 needs more rooftop bars. I tried to lot one, the props turned out all weird.

@RobertLM78 Thanks for the comment *:thumb: I'm about done with all of Portland's downtown actually, so that might be coming in another update down the road *;)

@tonyr Thank you very much *:thumb:

@Androgeos Thanks for the nice words! Virtually everything in this update is from the STEX/LEX (well except for few on lesser known sites like Busch Stadium which I found on TSC). I think there might have been only one custom BAT used here, so it really is a testament to all the great BATers out there *:)

@TekindusT Thanks, glad you enjoyed it *:thumb:

@SC4L0ver Thank you for the nice comment - yeah, for this update I wanted to show some other US Skylines besides just the big ones, glad you liked it *:thumb:

@nycsc4 Thanks for the comment and nice words! It might be difficult to recreate it 100% faithfully in SC4, but I may give it a go if I can find some free time one of these days *;)

@Mr Saturn64 Thanks for the comment! I knew you'd like the Philly recreation *:D

@mike_oxlong Thanks for the kind words as always *:)

@Simmer2 Thank you for the nice words! Glad you liked it.

@slickbg56 Thanks for the comment! I've been to a couple other Midwest ballparks before, but haven't been to Busch yet - it's definitely next on the list, looks pretty amazing from what I've seen. And yeah, it's a shame about the rooftop props- the LODs always glitch out or the lack of proper shadows always makes it look weird, so unfortunately that's one area I haven't really touched in this CJ.

I love the Houston one!! I work downtown and this surprisingly accurate considering the lack of Houston buildings available on STEX.... maybe I should get on that haha

But excellent work!! great job!!

@ByeByeBayou Thanks for the comment *:) Even though there weren't a lot of exact replicas out there - the NDEX team made a couple that were strongly inspired (here & here) - and I was able to find enough other close lookalikes for the skyline to make it work. Glad you liked it.

Thank you very much @JP Schriefer! *:thumb:

I've given it some thought, there's still a few more smaller skylines I'd like to do - Dallas, Minneapolis, KC, among others. So we'll see *;)
