GA Halloween Farm O'Lantern BSC has about 15 dependencies. Though you're probably using the older version from the STEX, the dependencies should be the same.

CSX Farm Salina de Coco only requires CSX Mega Props vol 3 & 4.

Not sure about the BLS Chateaux Vins. You have a link?

Yes, and I have them both installed. That's why I stated "(And yes, I just checked, and I have all the dependencies listed on the SC4D LEX listing for it.)" (I installed 3 in 2010, and 4 in 2018.) That's why I'm coming here asking for help. Because I'm wondering what I'm missing/what's going wrong.

As per the Halloween Farm, the dependency tracker says I have all of them.

The BLS Chateaux Vins is part of the BLS Small Commercials set: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=972 All the others work just fine. And yes, I just went right now and looked to make sure I have all the dependencies listed.

I know enough to check dependencies first. (In fact, I usually double or triple check them before coming here. And that usually includes not just checking to make sure I DLed them, but also checking to make sure they're actually installed.) I'm wondering if either they didn't extract right and I'm simply missing a file within the dependency set (because this sometimes happens when getting the files on a Mac, but I can't immediately tell when it happens because the ReadMes often don't include a list of all the files that should be included), or the dependency creator forgot to include part of it.

The missing coco trees are located in CSX Vol 04. Not sure what else I can tell you other than to double check that you have actually installed the listed dependencies. I can't do that for you. I have checked each of the 3 files, and there are no unlisted dependencies.

@c4bl3fl4m3,

Brown boxes only occur when the game can't find the necessary models.  Usually this is a case of the models actually being missing.  But it can also arise if there are file path length issues.  If a particular file exceeds the maximum path length, windows cannot read it.  If it is a model file that this pertains to, you end up with brown boxes.  If it is a prop file it pertains to, the props just don't show up.  The usual cause of this is too many nested folders with lengthy folder names.

Two easy ways to determine if this might be happening:

1.  Scan your environment with SC4DataNode. It will flag any missing (or not readable) dependencies for these lots.  This will tell you what's missing (although not the dependency actually needed, but not necessarily the cause.   This will verify there is something the game can't find.

2.  Take the affected downloads and all their dependencies and temporarily move them to a folder at the root of your Plugins folder.  If everything magically shows up, you know that path length is an issue.

3.  As a last resort if neither of the above lead you to a resolution, (although it's a PITB) re-download everything that's necessary for these lots and again place them at the root of your Plugins folder.  It's not outside the realm of possibility that one or more individual files may have become corrupted.

Right, but since this only lists what you've downloaded, it's wholly possible that they aren't actually installed, the tracker can't know the current situation of your Plugins folder. Annoying though it may be, brown boxes only occur in a very specific scenario, where either Buildings or Prop exemplars exist, but the models they link to do not. If the exemplars were missing, you'd actually just get an invisible or missing model, but not actually see the brown boxes. Therefore we can be 100% certain at least that something is missing. It does seem from @Tyberius06's post above that the listed dependencies are in fact complete.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

Hey, people.

I wonder if you guys know anything about subterranean structures that can be seen from the terrain cutaway of a city. I seem to recall caves in one of the city journals and a farm that was actually an underground base, with UFOs! Are those lots? Are any of them here in the STEX? I've been looking for them, with no luck.

Thanks!

Okay, so I'm using a Mac, so things like using SC4DataNode aren't things I can do, AFAIK. (I'm not familiar with anyone saying they've gotten it to work with Wineskin.)

Also, anyone telling me to look in specific places for files... because of running the App Store version on a Mac, and because of having the Too Many Files/Folders bug, I've had to deviate from the standard plugin places and put things 1) where the App Store wants them and 2) in shallower folder structures, oftentimes DAT packed. I do, however, have a "shadow" folder with unDATpacked versions, but that's mostly in the folder structure of my actual Plugins folder, and not where the EXEs want to put them. But macOS's search feature works well, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

(In fact, part of the problem has been: If you tell some of these EXEs to extract to a different location, sometimes they won't do it at all, but more troublesome, sometimes they'll do it with some files in the EXE, but not others (the others they extract to their original locations), but not inform you that they didn't do all of them to where you specified. So if you don't know HOW many files and WHAT files you should be getting in your folder, you'd never know something was missing... until you got a brown box or something else not working right. And then you have to figure out what in the world is gone. Which is fine now that I know this so I can look for it immediately, but I have a feeling this was happening for years without me knowing it. In fact, I know it was happening with some of this farm stuff because of an issue I had years ago that I worked out.) (FWIW, I'm not sure File Juicer always extracts things right either, because I've also missed some files that I know I got with File Juicer. It's something I need to experiment with more and then I'm going to write up a thing on it.)

You are missing the main building: CSX Guesthouse - O'Lantern
After you installed it, you will find the *.dat for the building here: CSX\CSXLots\CSX Rewards\CF08_OLanternManor.dat

Thank you for giving me the actual file name of the missing file. That's incredibly helpful. Somehow I *am* missing it, despite knowing I installed it in 2018. I'm wondering if it's related to the problem I just spoke of above.

This is a Windows-only problem, yes? (Although my structure tries to stay very shallow because of the Too Many Files/Folders bug on the Mac, but the App Store file path is already quite long.)

For this you also need the BSC Textures vol. 01 and BSC Textures Vol. 02 (they are not listed on the download page or in the readme, but you need them)

I do have BSC Textures vol. 01 & 2 (and 3, Fwiw) on my HD in the right place (although it's currently part of a giant DAT file in my plugins). I extracted that years ago using File Juicer (the file juicer names the extracted files distinctively so it's easy to tell them apart). Should the size of 1 be 16,995,517 bytes (17 MB on disk), and 2 be 10,511,240 bytes (10.5 MB on disk)? (I'm still not sure the juicer is correctly extracting files.)

It says I DLed and installed that in 2010 (which would make sense... that's when I got most basic dependencies), but it's nowhere to be found w/ the 2010 files. (I have wiped and reinstalled my computer in 2017 and carefully manually made a backup of all my SC stuff and then restored it, so maybe something went bork there? *shrug*) How did I get by not noticing that was gone? That's a main file.

I highly recommend you to REMOVE this file from it's original location (CSX\CSXProps\CSXSimonsberg\CSX Vineyard - Simonsberg.dat) and replace it with the CSX Mega Props - vol. 07

I definitely have CSX Vineyard - Simonsberg.dat but never even heard of CSX Mega Props - vol. 07 before. (How many Mega Props files does CSX have? Because I should just grab all of them while I'm at it.) But that's quite the Cleanitol file, and we don't have a Mac version of Cleanitol so I'd have to go through all of that manually. Is it worth it?

Thank you for explaining the particulars of Brown Boxes. It's always helpful to know how this stuff works. However, I'm confused as to why Salima de Coco doesn't have brown boxes, just missing the trees. Obviously there's something I'm not understanding here.

FWIW, I've now had issues a number of times today where I go to the SC4D LEX, it says I've DLed a file once on X date, I DL it again, and then it says I've DLed it once on the current date. (instead of having DLed it 2x, with the most current being the current date) Could it possibly be giving me false positives for files I haven't actually DLed? (And that's where some of my problems are coming in?) Or is it just not updating the DL count yet?

EDIT: I accidentally hit save before thanking all of you for helping me out with this. I feel kinda stupid about all of this... I mean, brown boxes are simple basic level fixes, and I don't want to be "that guy" who didn't DL & install all the dependencies (I genuinely thought I had!)

I've now checked everything and gotten things I don't have, so let's see how it's all looking. (Of course, I have to remember which farm city I put the Pumpkin Farm in!)

There are a few things that I'm having trouble finding. The first, as you can see by the brown box, is a missing prop, I guess. I happens on this lot and one of SimGoobers lots. When I use the query it says flowers. I checked the dependency list for the Garrison Woods file and it shows that I have all of them. If anyone knows which file the flowers prop is in, that would be greatly appreciated.Bellaire-Apr.%2023,%20051587275411.png?w

The second is a texture. I believe this is called ML JPN Condominiums 3x4. I tried to find the file online but I couldn't find it to see what dependency I'm missing. If anyone knows the texture pack for this can you give me a link please. Thanks.

Anyway, the Kei lots don't have english locals indeed, just realized. But once I'll be there with my organization on my end, I'm gonna create such translations if somebody else won't do that by that time.

Out of curiosity, did you end up doing those English locals? Or English locals for any of the Kei BATs? These buildings (really, all the Kei & Sanakoku BATs) grow like wildfire for me (esp. the 1x3 low-density R files, and the little apartment complexes) and it would be great to be able to click on it and see what it is instead of just a blank space because the English version of SC4 can't handle the Japanese characters.

Nope. It won't happen anytime soon (except if somehow I get the motivation to start going through on approx 5-800 of downloaded and unorganized stuffs). I have currently way too much heavy-weight projects on me, so I can't promise anything. Eventually it will happen, but don't know when (maybe already this year, or next year, or 2 years later - I can't tell).

Hi, I was reading along in the thread (long time member, recently picked up the game again), and was wondering where to download two BATs. Reusing the photos for reference:

1. In the MNC Tower pic, the SC3000 Asian tile set police station on the right is very well done - I seem to vaguely recall seeing this before, and that this was a Japanese BATter. But I don't know who or if it's even still downloadable, since many of the old Japanese BATters have long since retired their webpages.

2. In pic two with the AndisArt SC2013 house, I was wondering who did the small apartment building with the curved corner wall above it, and if that is downloadable somewhere?

Thank you in advance for your help and guidance, I appreciate it!

Perhaps a long shot, but does anyone have an older version of Dempseys Irish Bar? According to the description the file was updated with a HD model. The current version does look great, but it stands out quite a bit from my other files. I realize that the time window is probably really slim (Submitted March 11 2010, updated March 30 2010)

One thing you could do that usually solves most of my missing props problems when I think I have them all, is to download the  *Maxis buildings as props*  file. Try this! ;)

https://community.simtropolis.com/SC4-maxis-files/

SimCity_4_Building_as_Props.dat is bldgprop_vol1.dat, and Rush_Hour_Building_as_Props.dat is bldgprop_vol2.dat

To save myself a lot of time downloading each set and individual lots, try them out and.....etc etc. I am looking this time for an airport set or individual lots to build one of fairly big size with no difficulty nor hundreds of independencies.

Something easy and quickly to use/find and which are fairly good looking. I don' want to spend days creating this , nor be downloading things for the next 40 hrs, please.

Anything easy, beautiful and *quick mount* set or lots will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My, how one thing leads to another. I was looking at one of the "Spotlight" photos which Microsoft Windows 10 pushes to my computer every day or two, and it was an ornate stone building, clearly the central train station of some country that takes railroads very seriously (obviously not USA!). It turned out, it was the central railway station of Antwerp, Belgium.

The north third of the building is all ornate stonework in rich browns and greys and contains the ticket counters and gorgeous main entry hall.

The central third is a glass-and-red-steel half-cylinder area with train-boarding platforms on 4 levels. (All trains exit to the south only, except level 4, which has tracks running under the station going north and south.)

The southern third is a raised-rail viaduct looking much like the rail viaducts in SimCity4 that it was startling. And they do have shops under the rails! Again the resemblance to SC4 shops-under-rails is amazing. Check out this station on Google Image Search, Google Maps Street View, and Google Earth to see what I mean.

And attached to this post is a photo of the rail viaduct leading northward into the station, which shops under rails. I'm posting this primarily to show what these structures look like in real life, so as to perhaps spark people's creativity in their SimCity4 cities.

Ummm... This was never in the "BAT Request" thread to begin with. Nor is this a "Can't Find It" request, so it certainly doesn't belong here. Since my intent was misunderstood, I think I'll repost in "General Discussion", but with added text to make my intent more clear.

My intent was, as I state in my text: "I'm posting this primarily to show what these structures look like in real life, so as to perhaps spark people's creativity in their SimCity4 cities."

My intent was not to ask any questions of anyone.

As for finding things, that's not necessary. Similar stations and viaducts are part of NAM, provided one installs all the "raised rail" components.
