Entry 1: Welcome to Tamboria

A new CJ for a new city builder. The truth is that Cities Skylines is the long awaited, possibly mythical, Simcity 5- the one which we all dreamed of for so long. Let's get the show on the road!

///

KjeNQB.jpg

Tamboria is a newly fledging town which is rapidly expanding thanks to its diligent mayor. This is my first ever CS city and it only took three hours to build- mind you I have been following lets plays extremely carefully so I know what kind of mistakes to avoid.

LK9R3c.jpg

The South-west interchange and first access point to drive into Tamboria.

et4AkL.jpg

Moving a kilometre northwards and we come to the main interchange and second major access point for reaching Tamboria.

cnkPni.jpg

Crawley Interchange; an important artery in Tamboria's transport network.

59jQ8W.jpg

Gromley Industrial District to the South.

ljPoAV.jpg

Breathe in that lovely soot!

zbiADb.jpg

Accidents do happen...

8Y2wCO.jpg

d78C7T.jpg

The power of solar. Thank God there are no nights!

QKCOHk.jpg

Ore mining. One day there will be a mod for massive strip mines and other heavy industry.

bVjPmo.jpg

Putting the modded camera to use. It's easy to find on the Cities Skylines Steam Workshop as it is a very popular mod.

AbEDuc.jpg

If you wondering where I got all the money from for upgrading the highways, well I cheated and used the unlimited money cheat plus the everything unlocked cheat.

Snkfps.jpg

I have got to say that the modded free roam camera is far more easier to use than the SC2013 one.

V0aJtb.jpg

I love getting up close and personal with the camera. Just wait until the skyscrapers develop- there are going to be some mad pictures, I tell you, mad!

5Ygwjr.jpg

ZraV1i.jpg

I really like this three-lane exit in Crawley Interchange.

nCb6MR.jpg

Awgkar.jpg

UTuwF5.jpg

The graphics aren't quite up to Simcity2013's quality and clarity, however in Cities Skylines favour the darker, dirtier and grittier textures are actually an improvement and give CS that edge.

Y12v1n.jpg

9wdoYY.jpg

mnLor7.jpg

1jVhuw.jpg

Cvxnee.jpg

dcVkqO.jpg

Never shy away from gridded cities- curved grids look beastly.

EFElik.jpg

Community gardens.

kESkkn.jpg

WgMdI1.jpg

My favourite part of Tamboria is the farmland.

2NmEEe.jpg

Zone some roads with farms and then add modded parks which resemble fields. Right now there are two textures and styles for fields but that will only increase with time. Still it is a massive visual improvement from usual CS farms.

J62804.jpg

I4iF0h.jpg

Pigs (Three Different Ones). ;)

8WjP0y.jpg

Great clouds by the way! They look photo-realistic.

hVtVb0.jpg

Q0uX16.jpg

I wonder if weather mods are possible for those clouds are awesome.

nJlxi9.jpg

4x65jK.jpg

u5mu3P.jpg

And now for some (close up) / (ground level) pictures of the highways.

PgMYpV.jpg

The highway walls remind me of that highway in the Matrix Reloaded.

5KBIqc.jpg

It occurred to me that all roads could be lined with fences via upgrades. It would be something similar to highways with sound walls but instead there would be a variety of fences: wood, metal, brick, uniform, grated and so forth...

fEzLnf.jpg

Finally the highways are amazing. My only niggle with them is the lack of longer merging lanes and more shallow exit and entrance angles.

Stay tuned for the next update this Sunday evening- who knows how much Tamboria will have grown and changed!?!

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

Really nice images here Ln X!

I really like the highway shots you've shown, especially the traffic level ones and your farms look cool (though some of the fields are a bit bright for my tastes).

Looking forward to seeing how you master this game like you did sc4.

Cheers

James

Nice. Very  nice, although I don't quite like those yellow-green tinted fields, but still awesome. I see your talents were easily translated into a new sandbox : )

I like it. It's griddy, but not annoyingly so, it's actually pretty charming and realistic.

Too bad the farms came out looking neon yellow. Maybe try a different filter?

Looking forward to more updates.

    Replies:

JP Schriefer: Thanks a lot! Tamboria is going to be a massive city- 10 by 10 kilometers!

Haljackey: Thanks for the comment. I'm going to go on the asset editor and see if there are any other textures to use for fields. Searching the CS workshop may yield something useful to.

89James89: I've already made the CS simulation my beech, the real challenge -- and the real fun -- is working on style.

TPB: Cheers! This sandbox is truly mindblowing!

47ply: Same here. I've already seen a couple of new assets uploaded on the CS workshop, one of those were goalposts!

iviarrten: The filters improve the neon yellow fields' appearance somewhat, also I am using the Fall Colour Correction filter which really suits the tropical feel of Tamboria.

    Entry 2: CBD Teaser!

I have been feverishly growing Tamboria and by golly playing this game is one hell of a drug! While I was roaming around the city in the free roam camera mode I took some pictures of the CBD. Enjoy!

Heh. Never seen canola in flower? It's even brighter than that yellow. Mix it up with a field of iridescent blue from flax and it could be home in July.

Although massive CBD's aren't really my thing. The picture with the statue in it looks lovely and well composed.

89James89: In SC4 massive CBD's were not my favourite feature. However in CS the modded camera can take some startling and numbing views of the CBD interior, thus making CBD a lot more interesting to make.

    Entry 3: Tamboria's CBD

Tamboria has been growing at an incredible pace and the city feels mind-numbingly large. From this-

    STqmvm.jpg

    The CBD.

    haAWVQ.jpg

The Colossal Order HQ is my favourite skyscraper. We need more of these chunky buildings!

    J8zo8i.jpg

A whole bunch of residential tower blocks.

    RfvLYf.jpg

The modded free roam camera is great for getting foreground pictures framed with buildings.

    Pd0RjN.jpg

Since you can cover every conceivable angle with this angle, then the whole matter of taking pictures turns into an art form.

    The expo centre.

Remember that tilt shift is your friend when taking pictures. Especially with faraway objects and buildings- it compensates for the resolution limitations.

    mEeo2c.jpg

Down on the streets there are all kinds of nooks and crannies.

An old man with a walking stick! That is so awesome.

    QbymnE.jpg

    The statue of industry.

    G7Sho9.jpg

This Russian church is very beautiful.

    zgd0Rb.jpg

We're back in East Tamboria- the site of the first entry in this CJ.

    S0usKP.jpg

An updated view, facing West, from the farms. The observatory in the distance is about 6.5km (~4 miles) away.

And we end this entry with the glorious sunset.

Wow. Totally inspiring. I'm assuming some of those structures in your CBD are mods? They don't seem to fit the "style" of the in-game assets. Either way, it's a gorgeous city with an awesome CBD. Love the observatory, as well. Lookin' forward to lots more. :)

Are you going to continue playing SC4?  I'm debating whether to pick this up as another game to play...SC4 is more about the style and art now, but I'm still tied to it.  Cool start.  I''m not in love with the look yet.

What I mean is that this looks like fun to play...but I'd love to have a little more realism in terms of scale. ;)

JPSchriefer: I attribute that to the game plus the modded camera.

iviaarten: The modded camera allows for more tilt shift, that's the trick you see.

mb1.0.2: Thanks a lot! There is a lot more coming, both from Tamboria and from future cities to.

    Mymyjp: Thank you.

packersfan: My SC4 CJ is on hiatus for the time being, Cities Skylines has now become my new obsession. Also with a camera filter plus the modded camera with tilt shift the game looks a lot more nicer.

Tonraq: I have only just scratched the surface. The next city is going to reside in a custom made map and I'm going focus a lot more on the road layouts, parks plus fillers.

Azurespectre: I'm glad you like it, the inspiration came from GTA V with the Vinewood Hills area.

TekindusT: Tiltshift makes mega sense in this game, especially since it is a 3D city simulator.

    CDM Madero: :thumb:

    coolwiththecool2: That's good to hear.

Vitor13: Thank you. I wanted to make the transition from my previous CJ to this one as smooth as possible.

    Entry 4: Lumber Yards

Thanks a lot for the comments, I am glad you appreciate the quality because with this game I can approach each picture as if it were a potential painting. The camera is my brush and today's medium is lumber yards. Take a deep breathe and smell that bark aroma and the tang of sawdust.

Carparks. Now that I have a mod which fixes the park bug which destroys commercial demand, I can plop in parks to my hearts content. With this issue fixed I wonder if there is a mod to vastly increase the number of tourists going to parks because the more tourists go to carparks, which are technically parks in the game, then more parked cars will appear.

Good job mate! In the picture with the lookout tower (the one with a red house next to it), I was wondering what park you are using with the small colorful details?

    Cheers!

Love the look of this especially that shot of the factories with the city skyline in the background. Also that fenced school just looks really nice in that setting.

    Well done.
