    Replies:

schmidtbochum: I only used the Building Themes mod, now for some reason the Building Eyedropper tool is not working. I reckon that is due to the game's recent patch.

mb1.0.2: Thanks, the terraced rows are almost as compact as they are in real life in Britain, although the roads may sometimes be narrower.

Titanicbuff: The map I'm using is one of the new European maps which was part of the large patch and/or free expansion pack.

mutton noir: Actually the town is called Clottley and not Little Britain, I only used Little Britain to give the title some snark. I also agree with your assessment about the new mods which finally break away from American styled towns, at this very moment it is a bright period for British CS players. Furthermore there are more terraced houses coming, more low story flats and apartments of British design will be arriving on the Steam workshop pretty soon.

Cool_Z: Thanks, as for the lack of left hand driving- well it was an oversight on my part. I got a little too excited when it came to deploying the British mods.

    Carnivorus: Thanks!

simfanheatermayor: I'm glad you got some ideas.

Entry 36: The Town of Clottley

So the mods I'm using are as follows:

Building theme mods, control building level up mod and a whole ton of terraced houses! Everything you need is in the following link- https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=452704398. And now for some more W2W loveliness!

    ///

    Hbr2J7.jpg0Mz0Ie.jpgwFZfkF.jpg3yR0g3.jpg

The new European W2W buildings are glorious.

    SptcX2.jpg

To add to the somewhat dreary look I am using the "Muted LUT" color correction mod. It really improves the textures.

    4PqF5P.jpgqZo2Yr.jpg

The new European buildings come with new props and adverts which is nice.

    SI3Y73.jpglF8OLQ.jpg

The European styled college which came as part of the European expansion pack/update.

    XQuVRc.jpg

There are no 4 by 4 W2W corner buildings as of yet so what will happen is either you have a 3 by 3, 3 by 2, 2 by 3 or 2 by 2 corner buildings popping up to fill that space.

    88HHRP.jpg

Looking out to the east of Clottley.

    Oq3cph.jpg

Combine W2W European buildings with British terraces and the result is rather pleasant.

    NQvsaR.jpg

W2W corner buildings are the best.

    GxYowY.jpg

I will say that CS has surpassed SC4 when it comes to W2W in general, for starters it is so quick to lay down W2W areas and very easy to differentiate them with districts using various theme mods.

    q1b3AD.jpgsunkNX.jpgIjIkNI.jpgUy6ztS.jpg

In the background is CBD which is very much under development. I need to carry out considerable work on padding out the building densities of the surrounding areas.

    J7HVqi.jpg6fus3T.jpg

The CBD will look even better when there are medium density buildings between the skyscrapers and the rows of terraces.

    T9MpZt.jpgCw5Xnb.jpg

The graffiti on some of the European buildings is a nice little touch.

    uwsU2t.jpgpMz5Ny.jpgPp4GDu.jpgfKBoeF.jpgdgc0ZW.jpg

Lastly here is a preview of the next area I'll be exploring in Clottley.

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

Well, those british houses looks very good. I like the way you implemented them.

Maybe, the only problem - but this the game's fault, not yours - is that the street are too large. I mean, the streets are two time larger than the houses...

Do you run into the troubles of some of your custom assets popping up in your W2W areas? I'm having that struggle right now...especially once they get past level 2 or 3. This looks great, though. I've been on the fence about the custom theme mod. Have you had any issues with it or any weird incompatibilities? Thanks!

    Wonderful european city district :)
W2W is such a nice thing when planning some visually dense areas. Love your layout a lot :)

    Titanicbuff: Thank you.

feyss: Thanks, also I agree about the streets being too wide. However the Network Extension mod will eventually have a one-tile wide 2-way road, so that will address this particular problem.

mb1.0.2: I have used the Building Theme mod extensively and I have found no problems with it. Combine it with the Building Level Up Control mod and you can precisely set what theme of buildings will arise and what level of RCI buildings will develop within that district.

    Carnivorus: Thanks.

    wallacet: Thank you.

Jasoncw:  The building theme mods have expanded plus there are a lot more British buildings available on the Steam workshop- it is a golden time to be a British player of CS.

Entry 37: Introducing the City of Thornabary

Over the last four days I have been obsessively playing Cities Skylines as I developed the city of Thornabary. Here is the progress I have made so far, also, given the size of Thornabary, there are some detailed areas which I missed out entirely; the city is very complicated. Now enjoy this extra large entry!

    {---}

Infilling the areas inside of city blocks is very important for realism.

    rZ0TST.jpg

I am lovin' the cypress trees.

This, when Thornabary is finished, will be the city centre.

    rHlDgr.jpg

    FpCtxG.jpg

I have been working on prettying up the riverside. The idea I stuck with was to create a riverside road lined with trees.

    V5hNUP.jpg

I just have to stretch it along several kilometres of river banks...

    X4rhlG.jpg

    The CBD interchange.

    UK2ARi.jpg

Now we are in East Thornabary.

    fONi4c.jpg

    Sir__Smeg's Edinburgh row houses.

    22XufI.jpg

Creating varied rows of W2W complete with different styles and different heights has never been easier. Just combine the Building Themes mod with the Control Building Level Up mod to specify what type, and level, of buildings you want in a district.

    CQZgxE.jpg

    The M12 interchange.

    ZVc23p.jpg

    6QZ3mZ.jpg

I kept the lane crossings as compact as possible. The tunnels were bypass routes linking to areas beyond the immediate interchange vicinity, their purpose was to ease heavy traffic congestion.

I finally got my mitts on some roundabout filler pieces.

    fq5ll6.jpg

    HwrjAX.jpg

Trailer homes. Very much reminiscent of SC4's low wealth stage 1 residential buildings.

    kHKEBQ.jpg

    cbMmIC.jpg

A small farm nestled between Piren's Green, the highway and an industrial district.

    xB1T5c.jpg

This is my first proper farm in CS.

    4OASFY.jpg

    TDHqlw.jpg

    Gulatto's neo-eclectic American homes.

    TRhr0x.jpg

    hTFh5a.jpg

One final overview of Thornabary. I have barely started on the North side yet there is still much to polish up in the South side.

    pTu4HB.jpg

    Cool picture #1.

    ys2JIU.jpg

    Cool picture #2.

    {---}

And so one lengthy tour of Thornabary is now over. Now my top three objectives for Thornabary are the following: 1. Polish up the riverside; 2. Expand the CBD northwards and 3. Infill the missing areas of Southern Thornabary. A week from now I will post another update to charter further development.

Your city should be renamed to "Building Themes Showcase city" ;)

I really like the neo-eclectic district with all those trees, and the farm you made.

It is such a big city! My cities always stay small because I spent so much time on details and road layouts (or train-watching with the first-person cam).

I really enjoyed reading your CJ. For a new player, like me, you have presented some real nice examples what this game is capable of. A true inspirational CJ!
