Indeed, the Version 3 is much better :thumb:

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

The first version IMO is devoid of any interesting details or unique character, and I hated it for that. Of all my previous B62 uploads, this was the one I wanted to remake the most. In retrospect, it may have been the one lot that persuaded me to revisit everything (again).

The second one is much better, it looks more realistic with the parking.

I guess this is  before/after showing the growth of my current city. I t is very time consuming all the suburbs.

@Edvarz I honestly expected the second image to be a frickin-huge interchange in place of the former, you really surprised me with this one!

@matias93 I thought I would have to do just that, but thanks to my terrible city planning, traffic on that interchange it's really low (more so since I deleted the city to the east), I could probably get away with an at-grade crossing actually, but where's the fun in that? I also downgraded the N-S highway to a simple boulevard, and whenever I get the time to install NAM 36 I'll see about converting some sections into REW.

Brownsville's Green New Deal

Well, in my Brownsville large city tile, we've got the Green New Deal happening... but only inside our Army Base.

While most of the older brass have been sceptical, orders have come "from above".   It's a voluntary program, and it's handled as extra duty, but the younger recruits have taken to the project with enthusiasm, installing the army's latest CO2 scrubbers.  *;)

Click on the screenshots and arrow about to compare before and after.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

The new recruits don't mind the extra duty, saying, "It's a breath of fresh air," for the government to put the spotlight on pollution and climate change.

Before:                                                                        After:

Of course, there's a limit to what 500 Oak Trees can do, in the face of two Oil Power Plants next door, but every little bit helps!  Thank goodness it's not Coal.

Even the denizens of the Federal Prison next door are happy(er).

It's really wonderful how the No Kick-out and Less Abandonment mods can stabilise the existing lots as to be able to have basically the same low to mid-wealth neighbourhood hundreds of in-game years after the first image.

You've shown the benefits of it really well here. *:thumb:

I jumped to the linky to reminiscence and I've now added a new linky to a later tutorial of mine which illustrates what I was talking about in the second paragraph there.

I like it, Cori!   *

Many railway corridors in Sydney are grassed like that, with dark grey ballast adjacent to the rail line, but very rarely dirt.  Please tell us, how did you get the grassy texture, especially bordering the buildings and lots?

Magic! :ooh:

Spoiler

In SimCity_2.dat there are textures 7AB50E44-1ABE787D-08400000 (and 01, 02, 03, & 04) which are the sidewalks for rail and wealth level zero when zoning touches a network. Here it is zoomed up to 300%.

7AB50E44-1ABE787D-08400004-C0+300%.jpg

I then extracted a copy of the R$$ Grass FSH and changed their GID and IIDs to that of the above dirt texture. So, it acts as an override anytime the game thinks it's showing dirt it then gets the grass.

I'm checking out other green textures and I might still change to a different one, but if you want to try what I have atm, here's the file: Network Dirt as R$$ Grass Maxis Textures.dat

Here are a couple pics @Cyclone Boom made of my J6 tile showing the differences:

After:

Cori J6 - Dastardly Dirt to Gorgeous Grass 02 - After with R$$ Grass.jpg
