That is unexpected, the game's maximum tax percentage is set in the tax window UI file. I am not sure that using higher tax rates than 20% has any practical purpose, as I would expect 20% (or even lower) to eliminate any demand for that group. The spinner controls set the tax rate limit using the minmax= descriptor, with the default values being 0-200.

30PercentTaxRate.png.06e25069527b292a7caf2d562030875b.png

Here is a DAT file that increases the limit to 30% (0-300). 30PercentTaxRate.zip

Finally the mod I really need. I know, it's pretty hard to get demand at 20%, let alone more. But there are large cities that can host some demand even in really high tax regime, especially dirty industry and low wealth residential. And it works.

converting S3Ds to BATs is an inexact science evidently. glad to know it's possible though. (with apologies to @justforfun)

  image (Reveal hidden contents)

(workflow:

  • export .3ds file from reader
  • locate textures and export bitmaps from multifsh
  • import .3ds file into max, assign bitmaps to meshes as appropriate
  • cut window and door holes where needed
  • spend 3 to 6 hours chasing misplaced vertices and attempting to perform color correction, while taking occasional breaks to do your actual job)

Of course it is possible, and @Raymond7cn was masochist enough to convert a large chunk of my RowHouse Pack 1! I'd say the job you've done with this post office is superb because you also cut out the windows and columns. I don't do that in S3D because it would be extremely time-consuming and most importantly it would multiply polygons exponentially thereby defeating the purpose of S3Ds. I really like what you've done, personally I would reduce saturation a bit but aside from that the result is perfect!

I thought about this, and am still thinking about it because though I've thought about this, I still have more thinking to do as to stop thinking about it would mean not to think.

Could not have done it without your originals, so thanks! I really like all these rowhouses and their diagonal versions, and definitely appreciate the space-saving and true 3D aspects of S3D modeling (altho have to say basically just as masochistic, mapping textures precisely onto vertices... I just prefer self torture through creating shapes instead. the things we do for love, I guess). The only reason this came to me as an idea is because S3Ds and BATs look mismatched, most other British/Euro-themed content is BAT-based and I'm always looking for more diagonal and W2W buildings. I hope you don't mind.

Textures rendered in bat4max look very different in game from the same texture applied to a S3D. This is actually pretty toned down from the initial render, using various tricks (reflections, refractions, color correction, bump maps, ambient occlusion, etc.) to avoid the inevitable (editing the texture in GIMP) because I'm still very bad at the latter.

Amtrak sidings Lots !

There are several freight wagon lots. Lot editor isn´t my friend. Wonder if anyone could create some lots of the Gizmo Train props Amtrak.dat so I can put these on sidings. Parkticly some cars grouped, some engine grouped and some combination of both coupled and uncoupled ? This would make the sidings in New Chicago near Union station awesome !

There migh be another sets to be lotted like Metra or maybe some other sets ?

Sincerely yours,

Kschmidt

So nice to see, that some one else after @Raymond7cn (he is greatly missed) has picked up the project turning some of these awesome s3d models into BATs. Great work!

Haha, you said it! Yes, mapping the textures onto vertices and all is definitely a form of masochism. What won't we do to get a nice result? I just love the crisp textures and tiny memory load of S3Ds, and even more the ability to fully enjoy the 3d camera mod without worrying about distortions.

Of course I don't mind at all, everyone has different expectations graphics-wise. In my cities I use a mixture of BATs and S3Ds and I find they blend quite well, but then again I play with no shadows or my laptop will instantly crash!

Not possible at the moment.  I do think it would be a cool feature.

For the moment, with a bigger roundabout.

A weirder example, as reference:

Hi,You should really publish all this .. and more detailed views .. in a CityJournal. Here it's going to get lost in the flow. In a CJ we'll be able to follow the progress of the "work". When I see how you stage so many well-known and little-known buildings, it would be really cool!

What is good when you have nothing to say is that you can always pretend to listen. Anyway it does not prevent to think!

Completed several more districts of my city, branching south off the old downtown and coastal high-rise neighborhoods. This includes a recently redeveloped portion of the old manufacturing district, where one can find numerous luxury offices and apartments, convention space, shopping malls, pedestrian connections to the central railroad station, and a new sports arena. Even further south, the early 20th-Century architecture of these old working-class neighborhoods give an idea of what south downtown used to look like. In addition, to the southwest of downtown is a neighborhood home to numerous immigrants from east and southeast Asia, with an eclectic mix of styles built up over the years.

This took an extremely long time thanks to all of the detail work, but I can finally track the camera across the full width of the city tile and see nothing but robust development. I've also touched up existing areas of the city, including in the original harbor/port district and around the central railroad station.

That's a masterpiece of hours of labour ! Newyotk w2w,  grow able. Radical ordinance mod ? Struggle, commercials grow so hard eventually plopping o ly  way to save time. Still have to find my way with high rise buildings. Love to have some more info about some of the bats, mmp, mods used ! CJ, what I experience for some time short updates reduce pressure over time and trully finished work deserve one in this certainly

New NAM should have more options to decluter some of those ramps. What would be a nice addition be a tunnel between the to city quarters.Wonder about your last northern  city development ? Always nice to see some new progress of this great region !

Yeah, you make a good point. I had always planned on making this into a CityJournal, but was going to wait until everything was done. You're probably right though that it would be better to just start now, so I can go into greater detail and keep it all in one place. I'll probably get a first entry out this weekend while I have the time.

I was already feeling bad about clogging up this thread with so many big images, lol.
