I had a piece of boulevard with a tram down the middle and I decided, for sh*ts and giggles, to turn it into a cut-and-cover subway section using the FLUP.

It has gone… not as bad as it could? The trams are still running under, but I really thought the Ninja Kiosks would work as a proximity station and they do not work as such for GLR. I've searched in here and SC4Devotion for an alternative GLR station, but they're all run-through and I really need a proximity station. So I'm looking for that and, if I don't find it, I'll have to reverse the job and put the original, on-level stations as before. I don't really have the need or the want for an express line that cuts through a quarter of my city.

Which is a shame, because I'm really digging this sort of ersatz-subway.

Don´t know how underground glr works in that case - I use RTMT incl. addon which contains ramps from GLR in Road or Avenue to subway and subway stations on Road or Avenue for these situations:

The Ninja Stations can be connected to the subway by small stubs:

It´s a tricky installation but works very well:

There is an argument that since what you are doing is essentially a subway, why not use the vastly more flexible Subway system and connect it to a TiA to Subway ramp?

That said, I could knock up a working station without too much difficulty that should work with the El-Rail network underground, just writing that tells me it's probably why it doesn't exist, it's pretty niche. I would just convert a subway station, along the lines of the new U-Rail lots coming in RTMT 4. I may see about adding El-Rail transit so that such could be used with GLR/El-Rail networks too. I'll do some quick tests on this in the coming week, pretty busy RL right now.

Actually these files have long since been moved into the NAM, so the RTMT versions are essentially unneeded duplicates at this point. If you missed it, also check out the Interim T-RAM Stations for RTMT, they are indispensable for those using GLR systems in Ave/Road. The NAM supports the following GLR options transitioning underground:

  • GLR to Subway Tram FLUPs
  • TiA / TiR to Tram FLUPs
  • SFBT Subway to GLR transition
  • TiA / TiR to Subway transitions (at the very end of the Misc. Transit menu)

Essentially there are two differently modded versions of each ramp, for transitioning to Subway or FLUPs networks. So you have a lot of flexibility when going underground, although the Tram FLUPs have pretty limited support and are quite inflexible.

Ultimately El-Rail, GLR and Subway are the same 'Light Rail' network, so combining them works excellently to cover Elevated, Ground and Underground sections and transition between them.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

Cash, mostly. I like keeping a healthy budget, and the simple fact is that a cut-and-cover tram line is cheaper to build and maintain than a full-fledged subway. This is a smallish stretch of a boulevard that spans three cities in my region, so I'm actually using a TiA to Subway ramp to build the neighbor connections.

Also, I like the challenge and I think the underground tram is both criminally underutilised and a bit pointless. If you check my first picture, I actually had a complete, running tramline and I could've just left it there as it was. But it's always nice to reinvent networks in new ways, isn't it?

Yeah, I agree that it's pretty niche, but I was surprised to be unable to find even a single GLR station that worked just by putting it next to the line, especially since sometimes I find that stations work with the transit network right by their side even if it wasn't the way they're meant to work. For instance, I have a rail terminal in another city with a sideways underground rail going next to it, originally as a bypass – but to my pleasant surprise, that spur has actually become the most used "platform", as you can see in the pics below.

A RTMT station would, of course, be perfect. But I already have the space, in the sideways parks, for a regular station.

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

Yeah, this comes from a certain inflexibility with regards to transit switches, so if a station has certain switches it will dictate it's behaviour. All that's needed for GLR is to have the El-Rail switches, but there is one setup for through stations and another for adjacent ones. Anyhow, I hope this meets your needs, it is based on an unreleased RTMT URail lot, but includes pretty much every conceivable switch, as you can see Tram FLUPs/Underground Trams can be accessed now:

It has! I had to install all of the RTMT, which was not easy on a Mac, and I sporadically get brown boxes when placing the stations, but now I can finally inaugurate the T5 Underground Tramway, to much fanfare and finally, with the income from ticket sales, a balanced budget.

The roundabout near the definitely not Escorial had to go, in favor of a regular avenue crossing, because the road under the roundabout wasn't letting trams through. It was letting them pass before, but who knows – I've found that roundabout underpasses are not very reliable in general, be it with GLR or road transit.

As a weird find before I remodeled the avenue, I found that there was GLR traffic from the matt325 diagonal tramway station (which was an eyesore and impossible to actually use) and a cheeky little 15-m station that I placed, which actually didn't look that bad, except –of course– that it had no 15m transit line to go above. But the platform made for a nice roof, so I even considered letting it stand. Alas, I preferred your station, which was smaller and, I think, a bit less expensive to maintain?

Took the new toy for a spin today.

It's lookin' good. A couple caveats: no night-lighting, and you can't add any, at least not with my tools. The height listed for joining it seamlessly is 7.5. That leaves a little hump. 7.2 looks much better. Other than that, it looks bitchin'!

How did you got it so sharp looking? Any recommendations?

The secret is aging! AGE, AGE, AGE!...oh, um, you weren't talking about cheddar cheese, were you? *:D

Eventually, I'll get around to writing up a tutorial on photographing this game. It will be quite lengthy because I've uncovered a lot of secrets about that aspect of the game.

In the meantime, how do I get this bridge up?!!!
