@BartonThinks This is really cool, and if you published the props I'm sure folks would use them. Same for the lots!

Thanks! That's really encouraging to hear. The goal is to have a comprehensive set of lots for each era, basically replacing the vanilla Maxis options and allowing players to create full cities that evolve from one era to the next. I'll need to figure out a strategy for releasing the materials once I have enough of them prepared to merit a release though.

Releasing prop packs shouldn't be too much of an issue, but textures and lots might be. I've created custom textures that use elements of textures created by @CycleDogg, so that'll be something I need to work out - either by getting his permission or by creating my own texture resources so that I don't need to rely on his. As for releasing a complete set of lots, I've got some big worries about the laundry list of dependencies that would require. The residential stuff would be pretty manageable, but the list of files required for commercial, industrial, and civic lots would be... extensive. Also, a lot of the dependencies come packaged with lots that would need to be deleted or blocked if you wanted to grow era-appropriate cities.

I have some pipe-dream ideas about getting permission from certain content creators/curators to include their models with any packs I release to keep the dependencies list manageable. That's almost definitely not going to happen, but it's the only way I can imagine making these lots available to wider audience. So for the meantime, I'm choosing to pretend like it's a realistic option. *:)

There are some really large lists, plugin-pack-style, showing up on the LEX as 'shell packages' using the dependency tracker. You might be able to use that, especially since you do have unique content to go along with the huge lists.

Getting permission to release the content of others is tricky in two ways. First, most won't want you to do this and second, it's doubtful you'd even get a reply from those who moved on. My advice, don't waste a moment bothering, it's all time better spent on other things.

The number of dependencies is what it is. I won't lie, beyond a certain point I won't touch a download, it's too much agro. But, if you are offering good quality content, not everyone will feel the same, so you need to try at least to make it easier on those people. The LEX dependency tracker is great, provided not too many dependencies are only available elsewhere. You should take a copy of them all yourself and install them into a blank Plugins folder. From there you can work out exactly which files you do need to keep for your content and which you don't. Place both into separate folders and run a command in the CMD line which makes a .txt file listing every file in each folder. A little bit of copy/paste and tidy up later, you have a Cleanitol list which can both check everything needed is present, plus also remove everything that shouldn't be. The last one is problematic if someone wants to use both your lots and the originals, however you can't be responsible for everything. Done this way, you've at least made things as simple as possible. Obviously I've not given step-by-step instructions here, but feel free to ask for more specifics later if this sounds good to you.

If you take someone else's texture and change it in some way, then it's considered fair use to re-distribute the modified version. If you've not modified it, why not link to the original package in the first place? Of course it never hurts to be courteous, especially with active modders and ask them for the OK. Likewise it's often appreciated in these cases to acknowledge their contributions in the download description or documentation.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Thanks! That will probably be worth a look when the time comes to release this stuff (provided I get to that point). Also...

This looks incredible, and it'll be pretty much an instant download from me. Over the moon to see this, and so glad to see you creating new SC4 content.

Yeah, I get it. Like you, there's a certain point where I just won't touch a download if the dependency list is too long. Unfortunately, there's really no way to get around extensive dependencies with the project I've started. As I said earlier, it's more a matter of letting myself believe this is possible than thinking it actually is. A big motivation on this project is the idea of creating something that will be available to a wider audience and that even a casual SC4 player can easily install/use. Both of those possibilities will more or less go out the window with a traditional dependencies setup. The scope of the project is wildly unrealistic to begin with. If I ever finish, it won't be anytime soon. So, for the time being, I see no real harm in deluding myself if it makes working on the project more enjoyable.

It's nice to know there aren't any real worries about the textures. I've turned the original textures into Photoshop patterns so that I can "paint" different areas with different styles of grass, dirt, etc. I'd probably still get in touch with CP before releasing them, assuming he checks back into SC4D anytime soon.

Many thanks to all friends of my work, for now more than 10000 likes.
Even though I am sometimes annoyed that I often have over 100 downloads of my files but then only 10-15 likes.
That's why these 10,000 likes are all the more important to me. Show that some people can still thank for "free" things.
Thanks again to all Likers and everyone who followed me up to here.

Greetings from Hamburg / Germany.

Well, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I still get likes and I'm the most hated member around here. Last I checked, they're not really worth anything anyway. I will miss your most- excellent work though. Lighting or no lighting.

Unfortunately for Rico, I seem to recall that it is "THE END" ...... (Movie orchestra music kicks in and theater-goers don't bother with the titles as they file out.)

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !
